The first annual Sault Ste. Marie Festival of Beer held this past weekend at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre was a bubbling success.

The first annual Sault Ste. Marie Festival of Beer held this past weekend at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre was a bubbling success.

More than 700 beer aficionados toured the facility enjoying samples of some of Ontario's finest craft and micro brews.

Participating breweries included Labatt Breweries, Broadhead, Nichol Brook, Lake of Bays, Millstreet, Flying Monkey, Railway City, Hop City and Steamwhistle, among others.

While some of the tried true standards were available, such as Budweiser, Alexander Keith's IPA, and Rolling Rock, others definitely appealed to the more adventurous beer drinker.

Flavours including Flying Monkey Hoptical Illusion, Hop City Barking Squirrel, Nichol Brook Green Apple Pilsner, Lake of Bays Mocha Porter, and Railway City Dead Elephant Ale were especially intriguing.

The day-long event featured performances from local artists, including Mark Kuntsi, Rihkee Strap, and Miss Kitty Kokonuts, as well as some delectable eats provided by Bossy's Pub and Grub.
