The Sault Female Hockey Association (SFHA) this year introduced two new select teams picked from its house league divisions - one each for Bantam and Intermediate.

The Storm program allows house league players to compete at a higher level against other select teams across the province and from Michigan - and the Soo Storm teams did not dissapoint.

The Intermediate Storm team, for girls 15-21 years old, won their tournament in Bay City, Michigan, playing teams across Michigan.

The Bantam Storm team for girls 13-14 years old came out on top of 10 teams from Southern Ontario to win the Bramptom Canadettes Tournament this past weekend.

Girls hockey is increasing in popularity in Sault Ste. Marie as it is across the country, and the SFHA has made investments in its divisions that will provide the foundation for growth.

When it comes to deciding between girls or boys hockey, the SFHA wants to be the better choice.

"The success of these two teams in their first year speaks well for the depth of female hockey talent in Sault Ste. Marie, as well as the commitment of the league to provide opportunities for development", sais John Naccarato, Director of Communications with SFHA.

Competitive and recreational hockey provides a great opportunity for girls to become athletic, develop life skills, and make social connections that may last a lifetime.

The SFHA has programs for girls starting from 6-years old - applications are available through Facebook and online.
