Local musicians to raise community awareness of Earth Day 2012

Music will bring the community together to mark Earth Day at the second annual Earth Day Musical Celebration on April
21 at Algoma’s Water Tower Inn and Suites’ Water Tower Pub.

Performances will begin at noon and continue until midnight.

“We want to link passion for music with passion for caring about the Earth, starting right here in Sault Ste. Marie.  This is
a musician-friendly town, and we want an Earth-friendly town as well,” said Britta Wolfert, an organizer of the event.

A cast of local talent is assembled to share music of various styles, including original songs inspired by nature. “The event is featuring amazing young local talent as well as seasoned well-known local musicians," notes Wolfert.

“This is an event for all ages, and we hope families will share Earth Day with us. Children are welcome, and we will have
some special activities and songs just for them.”

Among the acts scheduled to take the Earth Day stage are: The Vig, Mora Lee Sound, Ye Olde Mould Pickers, Guy Smith,
Ed Young, Rick Charbonneau, Lorissa Scriven, Britta Wolfert, Green Café, Tea with Lincoln, Deven Creagh, Frank Bock,
Jenna Train, Dirty River Band with Rusty McCarthy, the Trippy Hippies, Enviro Gyro, and children’s entertainer Mister Guy.

The music will be accompanied by informative displays by local environmentally conscious organizations.

The work of local nature photographers will be projected on a big screen.

Once again Algoma’s Water Tower Inn and Suites is generously supporting the event.

First launched as an environmental awareness event in the United States in 1970, Earth Day (April 22) is celebrated as the birth of the environmental movement.  More than 6 million Canadians join 1 billion people in over 170 countries in
staging events and projects to address local environmental issues.

Clean North has registered the Earth Day Musical Celebration as a national Earth Day event.

As a grass-roots charitable environmental group, Clean North promotes community action and participation in protecting the environment.

Admission to the event is by donation.

Profits will help Clean North continue to encourage community-based actions such as Christmas tree recycling, community gardens and composting, and “Seedy Saturday,” a popular event held in partnership with various organizations to promote eco-friendly products and seeds.
