Youth accused of setting Elliot Lake fire

OPP Arrest One Youth
 
ELLIOT LAKE, ON – On Saturday April 7th, 2012 at approximately 4:23 p.m. the Elliot Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a forest fire on Lake Horne across from the Hampton Inn. 
 
Upon arrival OPP officers entered the wooded area with Elliot Lake Fire Fighters. 
 
Four youths were located and after further investigation one 16-year-old youth was arrested and charged with the following;
 
Mischief Over $5,000
 
Start Fire Under Unsafe Conditions under the Forest Fire Prevention Act
 
The accused is to appear in Elliot Lake Court on June 5th, 2012.
 
The fire was extinguished by a joint effort of the Elliot Lake Fire Department, North Shore Fire Department and the Ministry of Natural Resources Fire. 
 
At this time the Elliot Lake Fire Department continues to monitor and extinguish spot fires in the area. 
 
It is estimated that six hectares of wooded area were damaged. 
 
The total cost of this fire is not known at this time.
