Local cadets competed with Canada's top cadet biathletes and won medals at the 2012 National Cadet Biathlon Championship.

Alexander Lake, Cameron Basham, Jaime Lake-Schraeder of the 2310 Royal Canadian Cadet Corps each won a bronze medal in the Male Unit 3 X 4.5km Relay race.

In the 10 km. Mass Start, Male Youth category, Alexander won a second bronze medal.

Also competing in this year's national biathlon was Jessie Gravel of 696  RC(Air)C Squadron, Blind River who won a silver medal in the Female Senior 7.5 km. Pursuit.

Her total race time including penalty loops for missed targets was 35.2 sec. behind the first place female biathlete.

The four days of racing challenged the cadets as the weather went from cold to warm and then rain over the five days of competition.

The final day of racing had to be cancelled due to mild weather and the deterioration of the ski course.

These four local cadets along with Civilian Instructor Colin Edwards a past 2310 cadet biathlete were part of the 18-member Ontario Cadet Biathlon Team that was chosen from their race times at this year's Regional Cadet Biathlon held at the Rod and Gun Club in February.

The 18 cadets returned to the Rod and Gun Club to practice their skiing and marksmanship skills before heading to the national cadet biathlon.
