Essar Centre: a nationally respected, versatile venue
For the fifth consecutive year, the Essar Centre has been nominated, along with seven other venues from across Canada, for the Canadian Music and Broadcast Award for Major Facility of the Year/under 8,000 Capacity – National Award.
The Essar Centre is Northern Ontario's finest venue for sports, entertainment, trade shows, and conventions, a leader in the industry since opening on Sepember 28, 2006.
Located at the heart of downtown Sault Ste. Marie, this top-of-the-line facility is in perfect central location for people all across the city, and has truly become a key piece in the forward progression of sports and entertainment events in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Essar Centre is built upon the former Sault Memorial Gardens, and features the Memorial Tower, the last standing remnant of the original Gardens; the tower is a mark of Sault Ste. Marie history, and is a landmark representing how the Essar Centre values city pride and history, while continuing to look ahead to national events.
In coordination with Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, the Essar Centre hosts attractions at the local level, the provincial level, the national level, and yes, even from around the world.
The Essar Centre has hosted a variety of events, including Elton John in Concert; the OHL All Star Game, the Scotties, the Grey Power Grand Slam of Curling; KISS in Concert; Jerry Seinfeld; and most recently the Budweiser CARHA Hockey World Cup.
Upcoming events include Riverdance [shown], Johnny Reid, Bryan Adams, Mamma Mia, and Cirque Du Soleil Quidam.
The centre sports a National Hockey League regulation size ice surface that transforms to concert and event seating.
There are also state-of-the-art luxury suites, a full service kitchen, break-out rooms, multi-purpose rooms, and meeting rooms throughout the facility.
