NEWS RELEASE

SAULT STE. MARIE FIRE SERVICES

*************************
During the afternoon hours of March 11, 2012, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services were dispatched to two separate ice water rescues.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to the 400 block of Red Pine Drive for a reported male stranded on the ice.

The male became stranded after the snowmobile he was driving broke through the ice.

Fire Services personnel successfully rescued the male and placed him in the care of Emergency Medical Services.

Fire Services were requested by OPP to respond to the Pine Island area East of the city to rescue four persons stranded on the ice.

Upon arrival, Fire Services personnel were informed that three of the four persons had been rescued by OPP personnel and a lone female remained stranded on the ice.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services personnel used the Air Boat to safely rescue the stranded female.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services want to caution people that ice conditions in the area have been deteriorating rapidly due to unseasonably warm temperature.
