Ecole Notre Dame des Grand Lacs awards Solar Logix, SSM 90 Kw contract

SAULT STE. MARIE (January 30, 2012) - Work has begun on the 90Kw flat roof mount solar array at Ecole Notre Dame des Grand Lacs located at the top of the hill on North Street in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.

Solar Logix, SSM, a local solar array installation company, has been awarded the contract.

On September 1, 2011, Le Conseil Scolaire Catholique Du Nouvel-Ontario, issued a Request for Proposal to design, supply and install a 90 KW Solar PV at the Ecole Notre-Dame du Sault at 600 North Street here in Sault Ste. Marie.

The purpose of the RFP, was to invite qualified design-build solar contractors listed on the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) Renewable Energy Technology (RET) Vendor List.

Solar Logix, head office in Thunder Bay, on behalf of their Solar Logix division in Sault Ste. Marie, was one of six companies to submit an RFP.

In October 2011, at a public meeting at the offices CSCNO in Sudbury the six RFP’s were opened and read.

“We a very happy with the results of the tendering process and Solar Logix , SSM has put in place a team of experts to complete the solar array installation using all of our own specially trained installers to complete this job,” says Gerry Bugyra, general manager, Solar Logix, SSM.

Trevor Sawchyn, P.Eng, CME, is the project manager and team leader.

Sawchyn is responsible for the planning, supervision and construction of the project.

Sawchyn brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this project, having done several large FIT and microFIT installs in Sault Ste Marie and area.

Ruscio Masonry and Construction LTD in SSM, was awarded the contract to complete the new building and renovations of the present school.

Local solar panel manufacturer Heliene Inc. on Allen’s Side Road will supply all of the 305 W solar panels to complete the job.

Sunrise Power will supply the Solectria inverters, while the racking and design layout is supplied by Unistrut Canada with the mechanical installation by SEI.

CSCNO chose YB Architects and Halsall Engineering of Sudbury and Enermodal Engineering Inc. from Toronto to initiate the project on their behalf, prior to the new school's design.

“Pending weather conditions, I anticipate completion of the project in four to six weeks,” says Sawchyn.

Solar Logix, located at 123 March Street, Suite 400 opened their offices in Sault Ste Marie back in Sept 2011, with several microFIT and FIT projects in Sault Ste Marie and the surrounding area waiting for the OPA approval, which is anticipated in the coming weeks.
