Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay in Sault Ste. Marie December 18

SAULT STE. MARIE - The Rick Hansen Foundation is retracing the original relay route to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Rick Hansen’s Man in Motion World Tour.

The 12,000 km cross-Canada commemorative relay started in Newfoundland in August, and will travel through Sault Ste. Marie on December 18.

More than 7,000 people will pass the singular Rick Hansen Medal as the relay makes its way across the country.

Rick Hansen will be present at a number of cities and stops along the 25th Anniversary Relay; however, he is unable to attend the Sault Ste. Marie recognition event.

The public is invited to attend the Sault Ste. Marie End of Day Relay celebration on Sunday, December 18 at the John Rhodes Community Centre starting at 4 p.m.

The event will include: a sledge hockey demonstration, presentation of the Difference Maker medal, and exhibits and displays that showcase services/supports to persons with disabilities. 

Diane Morrell, regional services coordinator, Canadian Paraplegic Association Ontario, is Sault Ste. Marie’s local difference maker participating in the relay.

The Rick Hansen Foundation provides leadership to create accessible and inclusive communities for people with a spinal cord injury, and supports the search for a cure.
