Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Agawa - Lake Superior Park
  • Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island
  • Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay

Much colder air with snow and risk of freezing rain on the way.

A sharp cold front slipping southeast across the region will herald the arrival of much colder air from the Arctic.

This cold front will bring a sudden end to a mild spell.

Snow is falling at Chapleau with 6-centimetres reported as of 9 p.m.

Rain will change over to snow at Sault Ste. Marie near midnight.

There is a risk of brief freezing rain in some locales during the changeover.

Current indications suggest snowfall amounts will range from 2 to 5 cm near Lake Superior to 10 cm in the Chapleau - Missinaibi Lake region.

Snowfall and freezing rain warnings are in effect for regions to the east, where heavier snow and more significant freezing rain are expected tonight.

Travel may become difficult at times due to winter driving conditions that could include icy roads, reduced visibility, and rapidly accumulating snow. Motorists should allow extra time to reach their destination.
