Traffic stop leads to trafficking charges

WHITE RIVER – On Tuesday November 24, 2015, at approximately 10:55 a.m. officers from the Superior East White River Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrols when they conducted a traffic stop on Paint Lake road in the Township of Dahl District of Algoma.

Officers had occasion to stop a pick up truck and speak with the driver. 

Investigation revealed that a male driver was in possession of drugs.

As a result James Douglas DESORMEAUX (31) of White River Ontario was charged with the following offences;

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA.
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the purpose of Trafficking under 3kg contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • 2 Counts of Adult Careless storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or Ammunition contrary to section 86(1) of the C.C.C 
  • Adult Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm contrary to section 91(1) of the C.C.C.

The accused was released from custody and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Wawa on January 4, 2016.
