Extensive damage in west-end fire (4 photos)

No one was injured during a fully-involved house fire last night in the west end, says a representative of the city’s fire services.

Firefighters were called to 166 Pittsburgh Avenue, where they spent several hours fighting the blaze, said Platoon Chief Mike Simon.

He said the owners were out of town at the time of the incident.

The fire, which caused extensive damage to the house, did not spread to adjacent dwellings.

“Our guys got it under control pretty quickly. They got between the structures and got it knocked down,” said Simon.

Although under control, Simon said it took several hours to completely extinguish the fire.

“With an older building like that and the damage it was a long haul getting the rest of it out.”

Simon said the cause of the fire is still under investigation and the Ontario Fire Marshal has been contacted.
