DESTINATION NORTH DISCOVERY GROUP

Sault Ste. Marie-based non-profit Destination North Discovery Group received $3,500 from the Walmart-Evergreen Green Grants program to help facilitate their first-ever summer Discovery Camps.

Supported by Walmart Canada and led by Evergreen, the Green Grants program is a national program designed to support community-based initiatives to create greener, healthier communities.

Destination North’s summer Discovery Camps will create an opportunity for children to experience hands-on adventures which will take them on a voyage from the everyday to the exotic.

The week-long camps encompass art and science - as well as the history, culture, and ecology of the Algoma region - and involve community partners such as Mill Market, Entomica, and the Canal District Community Garden.

“Fostering an appreciation in our youth for the natural world, as well as for the community one is a part of, is vital,” said Loni Pierce, project manager, Destination North Discovery Group. “Our goal is to provide children with the opportunity to learn about the world around them in a very hands-on and experiential fashion.”

The Discovery Camps will be running for seven weeks in July and August, providing a different themed camp each week.

These camps are geared towards children aged 6-12 years and run daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The cost is $190 per child and includes all taxes, transportation, and activities.

Pre- and Post- camp care will also be available.

For more information contact the project manager at [email protected] or 705-251-6776 ext. 1003.

Details can be found online at www.millmarket.ca/discovery-camp.
