On June 12, 2015 at 9 a.m., the FASD Conference Committee will be hosting a one day conference at Algoma University here in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario.

Our presenters are:

Jack Martin is the manager of Community Services for William Creighton Youth Services in Kenora, Ontario. His area of specialization are hard to serve youth, at-risk youth, youth involved in the criminal justice system and fetal alcohol spectrum disorder.

Morgan Fawcett, an Alaskan native living with FASD, founded One Heart Creations to raise awareness for FAS/FASD.

Debbie Michaud born in Sault Ste. Marie now living in Kenora, has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Laurentian University.

She was also an instructor for the FASD Certificate Program at Sault College and is currently an instructor in the Social Service Worker Program at Confederation College

Priscilla Southwind from the North Shore Tribal Council is sharing with us “What is FASD”

Matt Sinclair will share his personal story about “Living with FASD”

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a reality within Canada and is showing us that there are a high number of people who are and are not diagnosed. 

Professional such as teachers, Lawyers, Social workers need to understand what FASD is and how they can assist and successfully work with people living with FASD.  

The FASD Conference committee is a partnership between the local Indian Friendship Centre, Anishnaabe initiatives division of Algoma University, No FASD, and the North Shore Tribal Council.

Where: 1520 Queen Street East, Sault Ste. Marie

When: Friday, June 12, 2015, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Admission: Registration fee: $125, 3 or more from your agency a $100 each. Cheques are to be made out to the Indian Friendship Centre.

The goal of this event is to gain an understanding of how FASD affects people who are living with it and how we as professionals can better service these individuals.

We need to Speak Up, it is our responsibility to create awareness and understanding.
