Taking the next step with eco friendly plant machinery

Thursday, May 29, 2014   by: Greener Ideal

In recent years a huge amount has been done to reduce the damage done to the environment. A lot of this is thanks to eco friendly vehicles, as more motorists are now swapping to this vehicle type. This is for good reason too, as they reduce your carbon footprint without compromising the quality or performance of the vehicle. This makes it a win-win situation and something that all motorists need to consider. Despite the fact that so much has been done to reduce the damage done to the environment, it is important to be aware that it is an on going process and there is much more that can be done by both individuals and businesses around the world.

A lot of attention has been placed on eco friendly vehicles that are used on the roads. However, there has not been much attention surrounding vehicles used in the construction, farming and ground care industry. This includes vehicles such as forklift trucks, excavators, tractors and telescopic handlers. The carbon dioxide emissions from these vehicles are mainly due to the size of the engine and type of machines that they are. These vehicles are used extensively all around the world too, meaning that something should be done to stop the damage that they are doing to our environment.

Clean, Efficient Engines with the Same Performance

Fortunately something is being done. This is the introduction of efficient engines that offers reduced fuel consumption and fewer CO2 emissions for these construction, ground care and farming vehicles. For owners of these vehicles this is a benefit because it also makes the cost of owning them much cheaper, due to improved fuel consumption, helping to reduce costs. It also allows peace of mind knowing that you are running a clean, efficient engine. Much like the eco friendly cars that we see out on the roads, these vehicles with efficient engines can offer better performance, without compromising the design and quality.

More manufacturers of these vehicles will need to develop environmentally friendly engines in order to make a noticeable difference to the environment. With reputable manufacturers of these vehicles paving the way, it should soon see a shift towards efficient, low emission engines, with more companies following the same route and more being done to protect our environment. This includes reputable companies like JCB and a few others, who have a vision to be environmentally responsible whilst simultaneously not compromising on quality or design. This encourages companies in a range of industries to take action and use vehicles that will not harm the environment.

JCB is a good example of a company that continuously looks for ways to improve their eco products, and so far have cut greenhouse emissions by an impressive 23%. As well as an eco friendly engine, a lot of this has been achieved through introducing returnable packaging, as well as recyclable packing which is already made of recycled cardboard. Innovative ideas such as this are the reason why Boels Rental, one of the biggest European rental companies, has just invested over £11 million in JCB machines. This will provide them with 300 new machines, all of which are eco friendly and offer reduced cost of ownership. This is Boels Rental’s third order with the popular machinery distribution company, increasing their fleet to 1000 of their machines. With JCB already investing £150 million in expanding their operation, this order from Boels Rental comes at a great time as it will also help to create over 2000 jobs in the Rugeley factory, 1 of their 3 factories in the UK. When large, reputable plant hire companies like Boels Rental invest in these eco friendly vehicles it will see more of them being used in areas all around the world.

When more companies begin manufacturing eco friendly vehicles for both road use, as well as the farming, construction and ground care industry, there will be a huge step forwards and it will make a huge reduction on CO2 emissions. It is important to recognise that this is simply one step in an ongoing process to protect our planet and reduce our carbon footprint. This step should raise awareness and lead on to more individuals and companies becoming ecologically friendly around the globe.
