Ontario appoints chair for local Forest Management Corporation
New Ontario government growing forestry sector
The new Ontario government has appointed Daryl Skworchinski chair of the province’s Nawiinginokiima Forest Management Corporation (NFMC).
In addition, Grant Goodwin, Donald Fry, Raymond Boudreau, Tina Forsyth, and Gaétan Malette have been appointed to its board of directors.
NFMC is Ontario’s first local forest management corporation, which will help re-energize the forestry sector, create jobs and boost the economy.
The NFMC will administer and oversee the sale of timber along the northeast shore of Lake Superior, and will manage four forest management units - Nagagami Forest, White River Forest, Big Pic Forest, and the Pic River Forest.
With this new model, local timber supply will be better aligned with market demand.
It will also be easier for entrepreneurs, First Nations and local communities to participate in the forestry industry and will help the forestry sector grow and create jobs.
Modernizing the management of wood supply is part of the government's Growth Plan for Northern Ontario.
A strong northern economy will help create a fair society and give the people of Ontario more opportunities for jobs and economic prosperity.

Quick facts
The Nawiinginokiima Forest Management Corporation is expected to be operational by spring 2013 and will cover an area about the size of Lake Ontario.
Since 2005, the Ontario government has invested almost $1 billion to support the forestry sector.
