Walkerton - the cost of getting it wrong

Drinking Water Source Protection is the first step in a multi-barrier approach to protecting our sources of drinking water from becoming contaminated.

One tragic day in May 2000 resulted in the death of seven people and illness of 2,300 others in Walkerton and set in motion events which would change the way we view our privilege of safe, clean drinking water.

Understanding the consequences of failing to protect drinking water sources will be presented by Bruce Davidson on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sault College multimedia centre.

Admission is free.

Bruce lived through the tragedy and will be delivering his presentation on this emotional, fact-filled and sometimes humorous experience.

Come to hear a story that is sure to impact the way we look at protecting our local sources of drinking water.

“We are happy to have Mr. Davidson come to Sault Ste. Marie and discuss this important topic. The Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority staff and the Source Protection Committee have been working on the Drinking Water Source Protection program to ultimately develop a Source Protection Plan for the Sault Ste. Marie Region,” Said Rhonda Bateman, project manager of the Sault Ste. Marie Drinking Water Source Protection Program,

As a resident of Sault Ste. Marie, it is important that you are aware of the benefits of protecting our drinking water sources to prevent possible contamination.

For more information visit our website or call (705) 946-8530.

We hope to see you there.
