Formula E: new Donington Park Headquarters nearly complete

Monday, May 05, 2014   by: Greener Ideal

Formula E’s U.K. operations center at Donington Park is almost ready for business. Teams and organizers are clearly interested in insuring that all goes well once the Formula E circus takes possession of the facility the middle of May, consequently activities just adjacent to the Donington Park circuit are running at fever pitch.

Currently, final office fittings, appliances, administrative, and workshop systems are being installed throughout the 44,000 sq ft headquarters building specifically designed and constructed in accordance with EU’s ‘BREEAM’ sustainable construction standard. This environmental policy framework requires that all materials, designs and affiliate systems meet to the highest levels of production performance when it comes to environmental and energy efficiencies.

As one might expect, sensitivities associated with the facility’s final completion and fitting out are driven by a need to prepare for Formula E first public test session July 3rd, in addition to handling accommodations and staff administrative amenities for 150 regular staffers. In the former case, the test event will mark a beginning for five summer days worth of all-out testing for teams, cars and drivers, guided by goals based on better understandings of the new series’ equipment, along with refinements of initial operational and performance processes.

Once the initial test day is completed, additional test days hosted across the Leicestershire circuit will occur in quick succession including sessions run on July 4, 9, and 10, plus a final pre-season tune up on August 19th, right before teams pack up and head for the AsiaPac and Formula E’s inaugural round in China. All test days are free to the public, although fans and interested parties will need to pre-register.

Along with the initial summer test tour at Donington, two in-season tests will be provided in order to allow teams to hone their competitive processes. Finally, at the end of the 2014 season, the championship will also offer two additional test days, thereby allowing teams to compile and complete final data in preparation for the initiation of planning for their 2015 campaign.
