Time to get up ,get out and vote. Nice patisanship from Sootoday; total bull@#$@ from the Dippers and the Libs in the local news section but no mention of the Conservative Party.
debo 6/12/2014 6:20:30 AM Report

That's what happens when you run a "phantom" campaign. The local Conservative Party put minimal effort/time into this election, entered a candidate late in the day and made next to no attempt to engage local voters. Don't expect local voters to take them seriously, when they don't themselves. They'll get their usual diehard Tory voters to turn out to the polls ... but the local Tories know they can't win here ... the Harris stench is not yet out of local nostrils.
BIG BROTHER 6/12/2014 6:51:18 AM Report

Thanks for the chuckle debo. Steely thinks there's a conspiracy. Paranoia, mixed with an overdose of Fox news, and this is the product.

Jimssm 6/12/2014 7:10:12 AM Report

Get out and vote !

It looks like a squeeker...
Which begs the question... If the Libs are so hated and horrible, why isn't Hudak doing a lot better than he is ?

I think it's time for the PC's to do some serious self-examination.

I'm hoping for a minority government.
flyhawk25 6/12/2014 7:10:43 AM Report

This election is the closest in years. I have no idea who will win but locally David O is up against a tough NDP campaign. Provincially it would be nice to see a Liberal/PC minority
My concern is that we will dump another cabinet minister and Wynne forms a minority.
Wynne doesn't deserve a victory because I thought she ran a flawed campaign.
I'm holding my nose and voting for our incumbent.
BIG BROTHER 6/12/2014 7:26:59 AM Report

You think it's that close locally? I think the incumbent will win, easily.

Provincially, tough call, but Jim is right. If the libs were as bad as I think they were, why isn't Hudak in a landslide.

The alternative has been happening on the federal scene. The libs have been throwing fodder for too may was inevitable that a Harper would get a majority, eventually. It's turning out to be a long 4 years of Harperism though. Trudeau seems to have them all nervous though. And for good reason.
Jimssm 6/12/2014 7:29:48 AM Report

Locally, polls Sault Ste. Marie as follows:

Orazietti : 53.3%
Ross : 30.6%
Fremlin : 12.3%
Other : 3.9%

86 % chance that Orazietti takes the seat.
Javaman 6/12/2014 7:37:44 AM Report

I smell an NDP local victory. Voters need to punish David O and the Liberals and have no trust in Hudak...who will gut jobs and ignores the |North.
66cherokee 6/12/2014 8:09:44 AM Report

I never listen to the poll that the media bring out anymore. Does anyone remember the B.C. & Alberta election where the polls were totally wrong. It will be interesting to see what the outcome is. All I can say is we can't afford another Liberal government. But remember, go out there and vote otherwise you can't say anything. It's a privilege that we as Canadian have.
Wild Turkey 6/12/2014 8:12:08 AM Report

Not that it means anything, but this is how the campaign went at our house.
We had no at the door visits.
We had all the mail-outs(the Liberals personalised theirs with our address.)
We had three very pleasant phone calls from the Liberals first to ask if we intended to vote, and then yesterday, asking if we were going to vote to-day, and what time?
We had no phone calls from the dippers, which really surprised me, because they always run a well-organised campaign.
We had nothing from The Conservatives.
From this, I came to the conclusion that The Liberals are fighting
hard for re-election, and the other guys, not so much.
Not that any of this influenced how I'm going to vote, but I found this campaign rather odd.

Morning folks.. I never received one flyer from any of the Candidates!.. The only call i got was yesterday and it was from Wynne and was a recording. After I deleated the message i had to bring out all my Bibles, light the candles and find some Holy Water to perform an Exorcism on my phone. Must have worked.. she didn't call back . :) :)..... Get out there and VOTE today... If you don't then don't complain about the state of affairs you're in.. you had the chance to make a difference and you chose not to.....
Jimssm 6/12/2014 9:31:03 AM Report

All of us are 'one person'.

Together we are 'the people'.

'The government' serves 'the people'.

The very reason candidates are campaigning is because 'the people' are still having an effect on what they do when elected.

Don't vote, and the government in power wouldn't need to take your opinion into consideration.

Bill_the_Cat 6/12/2014 9:57:25 AM Report

Wild turkey: all the things about presence have to do with $$. Radio ads and mail outs are very expensive.

I presume that Fremlin as a newcomer doesn't have the war chest of the other two major parties.
Budster 6/12/2014 10:15:06 AM Report

Here is the delemma that I see. Wynne needs to be punished for her part in the Lib. trashing Ont. Hudak : How can you create a million jobs by cutting 100 thousand. Horwath cut her own throat when Wynne delivered a budget right out of the NDP playbook and dumped the gov't. Personally I would like to see a PC minority that would force them to work together for the province not just personal interest as what Harper is doing.
BIG BROTHER 6/12/2014 10:15:23 AM Report

The 'War Chest' is a product of the (each) party. They are constantly in fundraising mode in prep for elections. Strategists weigh the chances and the commitment level from the party base fluctuates accordingly.
BIG BROTHER 6/12/2014 10:20:14 AM Report

This is one of the Duffster's crimes....fundraising on taxpayer dollars for Harper. He's not just another pretty face for Harper to have around. He has familiarity with the public, at large. His presence at political rallies was to add credence to a somewhat flawed persona and his reward was a plum senate appointment. His fall is Shakespearean in nature!! 'Oh how the mighty have fallen'
Bill_the_Cat 6/12/2014 10:25:40 AM Report

Bb: certainly. I am simply stating that Fremlin seems to have far fewer local businesses/people to get donations from. As he's not high profile, or in a riding which the PCs are likely to win, little 'help' would have been offered by party HQ in terms of $ or staffers.

People like Orazietti or Fedeli don't need such help, as they can easily reach their spending cap.

I seem to recall that Hayes had both loans from other ridings and party staffers to help him over the finish line.

It really does come down to the cash available.
BIG BROTHER 6/12/2014 10:29:58 AM Report

Yes, and the bets are on for the libs to win. Therefore, the cons are not going to waste their money on Bre-X.

If they thought they had a chance, they'd pull out the stops!!

Bill_the_Cat 6/12/2014 10:36:58 AM Report

Bb: so it seems.

For my money, I may go Libertarian this round.

If it were closer, I'd probably strategically vote. Not necessary this time I think.
BIG BROTHER 6/12/2014 11:39:31 AM Report

I'm a lost liberal. I can't quite round the square on the money squandered by the libs, but I have heard that the other parties would have scrapped the gas plants also. But would the other parties have entered such a binding contract, in the first place. We may never find out the whole story. I like Wynne. Never was fond of Dalton. Did like Gerard when he was a possibility.

Can't stand Hudak. He offers nothing for me and my world. If the NDP could get past their poor, unfounded reputation of Rae Days, I think they would be OK.

I'm tired of the middle class being blamed by the propagandists as the cause of the so-called problems. The banks, wall street and their 'friends' are to blame. Their scare tactics are running thin. I read an article that Hudak's campaign was orchestrated by a US. Tea Party hack. No surprise here. I think they've well infiltrated Harper's gang also and are a major reason for the truly Progressive conservative base (Joe Clark, Mulroney and Co.) to be distancing themselves from Harper. Harper is empowered by their support. They have a slick machine, tell people black is white and do it often enough that people start believing it.

notpc 6/12/2014 2:00:05 PM Report

I give you credit for posting something like this which perhaps contradicts what you believe. Not many would do that.

The article proves the premise I made a few days ago on this forum. That not enough is known about climate change and possible links to CO2 for scientists to come to the kinds of conclusions they have come to. Conclusions which if acted upon, would lead to economic ruin for the economies of many nations.

Professor Schluchter has discovered what many other scientists already know. If what you discover doesn't align with the preferred dogma (that CO2 emissions cause global warming and that it's man-made) then you will be shunned and criticized for making your discovery public. It has happened multiple times already and Dr Schlucter's experience shows that it will continue to happen until it gets exposed to enough people of influence. His idea linking solar activity to climate change is far more plausible and is believed by many other scientists who haven't bought into this man-made global warming nonsense.

KENNEDY919 6/12/2014 2:56:54 PM Report

Decline in popular vote for the NDP will translate into more Liberal seats that will most likely push the Liberals closer to a Liberal Majority.
Many people know there is a desperate need for fiscal responsibility but they refuse to accept the hard line of Hudak and will never equate the NDP with any semblance of Fiscal Prudence. This bodes well for the Liberals sitting in the middle despite their bad track record. They have overspent. But many ridings like the Sault have reaped the benefits of that overspending even if a lot of the spending was on a credit card with no limit. Wynne has been able to distance herself from the McQuinty report card and simply is more appealing to the voter than Hudak or Horwath.

You are doing exactly what critics who don't have cogent arguments do when confronted with evidence that contradicts what they want to believe. You label those who believe otherwise as fools.

Well I doubt that Dr Schlucter is a fool. If you think he is, then show how his discovery doesn't show what he says it does. Refute his observations and conclusions with some learned observations of your own or others. Don't take the intellectually lazy approach of labeling him and other dissenters from the dogma of man made global warming as being fools who practice junk science.
BIG BROTHER 6/12/2014 4:16:36 PM Report

Dr Schlucter has his opinion, not facts.

mallet 6/12/2014 5:31:09 PM Report

I would like one of the globalwarmer/climate change experts to give a per centage of what made made emissions are causing the changes in weather patterns as opposed to natural emissions from volcanos/forest fires and yes solar emissions too. Perhaps many or not so many can remember the problems with radios being blamed on solar flares etc. It is fine to say that all the problems are man made, but if you do not take into account other contributors' then your figures are going to be skewed.
Jimssm 6/12/2014 5:50:29 PM Report

I don't think any reasonable person would say that ALL the problems are man made. We are only contributors to the problem, as are all the other things you list.

The difference is, over the long history of this planet, all those other things were always there. Nature cycled, did whatever was needed to bring balance. The difference now is that mankind has changed the formula so quickly that nature can't compensate quickly enough.

It will eventually fix things in its own way. The trouble is, we won't like the fix much.

Just my opinion.

mallet 6/12/2014 7:13:21 PM Report

I agree, but the way it is presented to the general population does not take those other things into account.. It is smoke from our power stations, cars, industry at large, that is presented as the problem. Yes we are contributing but to what degree, that we are never told, perhaps the experts have no computer model to tell us, only our share and this is what makes a doubter out of me. Could it perhaps be that there are now more people breathing that is having a detrimental effect on the planet...

Nice try notpc, but methinks you get the point.

I made an attempt to find the Dr. you are referring to. My link showed you that there are all kinds of renegade deniers of many given facts. Although it was lighthearted, the Flat Earth link does show how silly deniers of global warming/climate change come across, when the facts are staring them in the face.

Mallet wants percentages. I understand his request, but I'll take the word of the thousands of scientists over the non-expert oil people, who apparently have hoodwinked a number of people. They have produced mountains of documents, which I'll let him root through, at his own discretion. The percentages would mean nothing to me.

What percentage of nicotine in cigarettes is dangerous. I have no idea, but I'll take the doctors word for it....they are bad for me.

You're hysterical. The province of Ontario is in deep trouble and no political party will get us out of this (mainly) financial mess anytime soon.
Hudak is an idiot and he will be gone for good. Horwath is unrealistic and not a very good strategic thinker.
Ontarians had no choice but to vote the way we did.
Your desperation is a tad over the top if I may say so. It ain't as bad as you think.

I know you were hoping for Celia Ross to be our local representative because she returned your call in a timely fashion. What was it about? Overpriced cat food?
We now have a Liberal majority government.
Deal with it or call U Haul.

If you are following the election on the tube .... It's amazing, they are channelling Gurpy ... as in "You damn voters are getting what you deserve for not agreeing with us Cons ... and we are going to hold our collective breath until we turn blue(since you won't).
I see the Con spin guys one by one lauding Hudak as just about the best thing since sliced bread. That means they'll ditch him before the year is out!

It's also being reported on CTV that Harris was hovering near Hudak HQ, no doubt wanting to enter and bask in the anticipated reflected glory of a Hudak victory. Now the SOB will slink back into some corporate swamp that he presently inhabits (and continue to get $'s for doing SFA).

Speaking of Harris, just back from his freebie(courtesy of Harper), can we get him sent to Tikrit or Mosul or just eliminate the intermediate stop and have him sent straight to He77.

David O. got a clear majority here in the city. NOT just Italians. You're thinly-veiled bigotry is showing.

He increased his vote over last election.

Liberals increased their seats in Ontario.

Conservatives LOST seats in Ontario.

Kathleen Wynne is openly Gay and Ontarians didn't care.

She's a woman and Ontarians didn't care.

Live with it

"A very scary scenario ... everyone with an I.Q. over 110 leaves the blue room, leaving Grump, Teeps and Nervous Bob as the remaining contributors.
Fly remains, just to keep the three from tearing each other limb from limb, a result of inadequate direction.
After the Provincial and Federal elections, which the Conservatives win handily, the trio, now horribly rabid are taken for a nice ride in the country.
Told ya it was scary!"

Hi Wisen

smiley face

I am sorry I did not include you in the idiot category with steelworker earlier.
May I do it now? You fit right in.

The "Italian" angle is resurrected every time it doesn't go "their" way.
It is not entirely unfounded, but coming from somebody like "hunter" it is to be dismissed as a garden variety, illiterate grunt.

Bad news: Unions buy another election/government in Ontario.

Good news: Hudak the Unelectable has already announced he's getting the he11 out of the way, so the pc's can choose an electable leader. Someone who can keep Wynne from turning Ontario into the next Greece.

The reformists are such a narrow minded subjects that can't understand the reality.

Get pills, grass, white magic, crack or hit yourself with a hammer because you people are out of touch with reality end to end, the cons started the campaign with 37 seats in the house and ended just a couple hours ago with 30 seats.

That's not only Hudak's fault.

The voting turn out most likely was the lowest in history.

GRUMP! I still have half a dozen of those brooms from the HD, the wide ones, reinforced heavy duty, they can sweep tones of it!

The Progressive Conservative Party is a void wasteland, as their name suggests. If the party was serious, they would have turfed Hudak after the previous electoral debacle, instead they left an incompetent unable to defeat the most corrupt govt in the history of democracy.

As for the Greece comment...."Too little, Too late. Time to say goodbye to any new and existing small business in Ontario

My only surprise is how Gurpy, Wisen, RW, Lawgo, et. al are surprised. I know your watching rw!!! You can come out of the closet now. I'm sure your bursting to say something....

Looking for excuses or answers won't change the fact....Wynne is the wynner. I'm not happy with the liberal performance in the past couple of years either. But the alternatives were terrible.

Fly said it and I agree....plug your nose and vote lib. That's what I did at the advance poll.
BIG BROTHER 6/12/2014 11:28:54 PM Report

Lawgo likes to blame Greece for the economic crash. The banks, wall street, politicians in the US, especially Dubya. Giving credit to Harper and blaming Greece are like attacking Iraq for 9/11. No honest obvious connection!!

Jimssm, I was dealing with it pretty well. I don't think I made any complaints and even if the conservatives won with a majority or minority, Orazietti wod have still be voted in by the many Italian Saultites. My grandparents on my fathers side were straight off the boat, so I'm not some white guy pulling the race card. It's a known fact that this happens here.

Yes the Liberals won a majority tonight. If you think that your Hydro is going to go up, there'll be much more. People thought Hudak, who said it like it was, was to much like Harris. At least he didn't lie about the deficit. Maybe his 1 million jobs wasn't ok, but hey he would be better than what we got. Well folks, our deficit is at 12.5 billion dollars and grows 1 million every 1/2 hour. You, including me, pay on that debt. The Liberals didn't tell you, but they have to cut. How else are they going to balance the budget by 2017/18. Anyone who flies will pay more. The budget that was brought in on May 1st is going to be the budget that will be presented and voted on. Look at it. I voted Liberal before, but never again. And if you think that the deleting of the e-mail is going to disappear, think again. Even thought they were deleted, they are still there, and will be found. Then we'll know if Wynne was involved.
