We now have photos of all the candidates but one.
Of course there are more pictures of David O than even his grandma has.We have Celia dressed as an orange popsicle, the Green candidate's professional shot and even the Libertarian in a group shot of stoners parading for ...well I'm sure they'll remember tomorrow.Totally.
But the best we can get from the PC candidate is his stand-in.He seems to be taking his stealth approach from Bryan Hayes who says he's in Ottawa. And puts his photo on buses.I suspect he might be driving one.
I love political campaigns.Even when one candidate prefers to remain anonymous.

I enjoyed last night's reference to electing a whole bunch of independents. That would be one way of getting the power back into the peoples hands. As it stands now, Northern On. doesn't have a chance of being heard from unless Orozoonie gets back in. If that happens we will be stuck with the same old same old again for another life time of tax and burn. I don't know if we can afford that to happen. I know I can't afford it.

You know, everyone praises David O. for being so good and representing our city so well.
I don't feel that way, and even if he did represent us well, we are getting screwed with all of the WASTED tax money that the un-elected premier is throwing away by the bushel.
All I can say is this:
David O., you stood beside a government that wastefully spent tax money and made cuts to the healthcare system including pharmacy and nursing. You won't be putting a sign on my lawn, ever. You need to rethink what we as Ontarians want and not just what we as Saultites want.
My vote at this point, instead of being well defined, is just anything except Liberal. I've seen what McGuinty/Wynne have done and the result is a ruined Ontario.

I don't believe the conservatives have a candidate running for our district. If they do have a candidate where is he, what does he look like, what does he personally stand for or would he just push the party line? If he is shy, why is he running for a public position? Those are just a few of my questions.

Unfortunately he is the only one who seems to believe it.
The research says that it is next to impossible but why not try. After all Rob Ford claims to have saved Toronto a billion dollars so if promising 'a chicken in every pot works' throw it out there.
Even the chickens don't believe him.

Here's a link to a G&M article indicating one of the risks for any province that continues to believe that deficit-financing is the way to go. Ratings agencies that determine how much interest a government pays to borrow are warning the provinces that a ratings downgrade is a real possibility. Given that Ontario has the highest debt/revenue ratio of all, by a wide margin, we are the most vulnerable to that.
When a province has to pay higher interest, those costs get downloaded onto citizens in the form of even higher taxes and fees. Worthwhile stuff to think about with an election coming.

Many people like to make comments about how their tax dollars are "wasted" on the
First Nations communities. With regard to the article where Victor Mitchell (mayor of Moosonee) has been charged with misappropriation of grant money. What people don't seem to know is that Moosonee is NOT A RESERVE. It is a community that was founded in 1900. Follow this link and educated yourselves.

I have Shaw for both internet and cable.
I am thinking of switching to Bell for satellite t.v. and internet. this switch is primarily for cost only..the latest offer I just received from bell appears it will be cheaper than what I currently pay Shaw.
Any comments?? Any likes/dislikes concerning Bell ? especially internet?
mallet 5/22/2014 3:28:46 PM Report
Be very careful regarding internet via satellite, I know some people who have that and after a certain amount it slows down by percentages to nearly dial up speed. I have bell for tv and thats okay but there is a lot of junk programmes I would not pay for except they are in the bundle/theme for station I want. In my area there are certain ways of getting the internet, I have been with TBAYTEL now for a couple of years and find it reasonable. Download speed is 1 mbps and up load .50 mbps and I am well out in the boonies...

So when one goes to the polls in next month's provincial election does one vote liberal, NDP, green, libertarian? Certainly not conservative because they seem to have only a phantom candidate. I guess see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil, is their platform for this go around with the voters.

A month ago I finally got fed up with the high Shaw bill I was paying for TV, internet and phone. I had a long online chat with a Bell rep and discovered I could knock about $50 per month off my bill. I phoned Shaw and discussed this with them. They found a way to rejig my services by removing some channels I never looked at and changing my phone preferences. They left the internet as it is. The result was a reduction of $55 per month in my Shaw bill. At the end of the phone call with Shaw, I asked the fellow if he could throw in any more incentives. He gave me a further $10 reduction for 6 months.
So, I suggest you do what I did and you will probably not have to change at all.

I have a couple of questions and I am wondering if anyone can give me an reasonable answer...
One.. why does my electric toaster vary in toasting colour from one day to the next one the same setting???
Two... what the heck are all the numbers that repeat across the new "smart" meters reader face??? I have tried a couple of times to ask but whether I choose the wrong time but they always seem to have "a heavy volume of calls at this time" when I call to ask..
Has anyone else ever wondered what they all are... I have a problem with this new system, both from the time of use and the delivery charge being more than the consumption charge...

Well steelworker better that I know who I vote for rather than an illusion. Is Fremlin staying out of sight because he knows he can't win or is it because he doesn't know anything about politics? I would rather take my chances on a candidate that is not afraid to be in the public eye than one who lurks in the shadows.

I had Bell during the winter and most of the time I was lucky if I got half the channel for which I was paying. When I called to complain I think I was told that I had snow on the dish. The next person to whom I talked told me(I think) that trees were in the road. Ad vised him that this wasn't a problem when I signed up. He told me ,I think, that there were probably more leaves. I advised that this was January. He didn't grasp the concept until I explained that they aint no leaves on trees in January in Northern Ontario. Shortly after this I switched back to Shaw. On the very rare occasion that I have problem, the person to whom I speak knows what he /she is talking about and can state their responses clearly

soowat...lol, You "worded" your post very well as to not offend anyones language. I have Bell as I cannot get Shaw here. Sometimes Bell adds things on to my account, ( Without asking) such as call waiting etc. and gives me a deal on it then hike the price up! I pretty much gave up on fighting with them on the phone as i couldn't understand a word that was said. I did learn though that if you want to speak to someone that you can understand,, press 2 for French,, they can speak both and i get more lucky there... When we first moved here I got stuck paying the other owners phone bill for three months, don't even get me started on that one!.... Good luck .....
mallet 5/22/2014 8:23:58 PM Report
My experience with Bell has not been that bad as far as TV service is concerned. Internet and phone has been a little different though, anyone familiar with Dial Up will understand, and until recently (last 2 years) there was little or no cell service north of the Soo, until Tbaytel came along. After that Bell came through with cell service and also Rogers. We had a "Bag Phone" from Rogers that always seemed to hit the U S towers at Bay Mills or Rudyard, and for some time took off the roaming charges which were horrenous and then without warning would not do so anymore, we got saddled with a $700 bill one month. In the end we settled, not for the full amount but to get lawyers involved would have cost me more, I would rather send smoke signals than use them again. With little or no competition the three main cell servers have you over the perverbial barrel, and with the government wanting to make money over the airwaves it is likely to remain so.. I just wish the CRTC and the Min of Industry had some cojones and would let a lot more in...
