Well the sun's out …that’s a start …it’s about 6 above … still breezy tho …lots of wind lately, without that pesky wind …just might be a little nicer. Long range doesn’t show much more promise . ! …Oh well can’t do much about the weather, at least it’s not raining or snowing ..yet …lol ….!

After yesterday's discussion about Snowden I am starting to form a few ideas. The US is supposed to be a nation of laws. Yet some posters have declared him a traitor and would execute him and he has never been to trial. That may be efficient but it is not what America should be about.
If we assume that the government is always working for the common good and that laws are an inconvenience then the founders must be spinning.
A country that condones water boarding and torture for 'the common security' is suspect in my mind.
Whether someone is elected president or pope that does not make them infallible.
Snowden may be a techno nut job but he deserves a fair trial before he is punished.
Unless the government would not like to see the whole intelligence community have to actually answer some tough questions.

Accuweather suggest Sault Ste. Marie will be BELOW AVERAGE for temps in June. The highest temp they forecast is one day at 72...otherwise lots of clouds...drizzle and temps in the low to mid 60's. This very curious weather we are having. Why?

Just Curious

On my son's birthday,July 15,1992, we had to make an emergency trip to Thunder Bay. As we drove through Terrace bay it was snowing heavily. I guess one could say that snow, along with that other four letter word, happens

As for certain of your ancillary comments, they are a matter of opinion to which you are as entirely entitled as the rest of us to ours.

For the poll, how about

Depends upon the genre and calibre of the music played.

That is the only criteria of anything I listen to. I don't care where the station is located.

Fly: I would hope a fair trial for any accused.

Completely agree on institutional torture. Odious business.

Happy Sunday! Putting on the wellies and taking the carpet marines for a spring trek with cameras.

Have a great day all.

a fair trial? Not for him, they want him eliminated since he holds the information against the power elite. The only interest being acted upon is their own individual self interests. As it is human nature to do so!

irish your comments last night do supprise me. When you read negative comments about your religion and your god it is only to counter the narrow mindness of some on this site. It is to show the wrongness of stereotypes and the harm they can cause. As stateed before people who follow islam have the lowest assult, and murder rate in the world...and a fraction of the christians do in the usa and canada. I am against the racially motivated propagated hate that people who beleive in your god are spewing like the sewers in sudbury. Two wrongs dont make a right but look past the hate peddlers and racists, please. Is it a sin if you dont?

Flyhawk...

Have you ever known kindness to work on getting sensitive information out of an enemy. One does what one can to protect your friends, and if a little pain inflicted will do that, would you say no! A hypothetical question, your son/daughter is kidnapped, one of the kidnappers is caught, would you really care what measures the police use to find out where your daughter is?? Or would you say that person has to be given the full protection of the law as a defendent??..

Protector...

So you fully agree with the use of Sharia Law?? I see, Mmm, I am surprised, I would not have thought that you as "Protector" would embrace the Death penelty for murder, adultery, and a range of religious transgressions, or the amputation of the hand for theft, or lashing for the crime of drinking alcohol. I think you forget that there is no moderation under the strict Islamic laws, but if you agree with those things I am sure we could have a whip round and buy you a one way ticket to one of those countries you admire so much!!!

Irishfey......

Never tiptoe or fell intimidated about your religion... Stand up for your Religious beliefs. FIRMLY.

I am a Christian and if anyone disagrees they can pound salt wherever they want to place it.

This country was built mainly by Christians... NOT MUSLIMS.

I refuse to back down on my religious beliefs.

Muslim, Hindu, Hairy-Krishnas, or whatever religion of the day pops up. Do as you wish and enjoy your rights... but realize that you will not have my religion put on the back burner.

Stand firm.

Jimssm 5/18/2014 2:30:50 PM Report

Rocky...

You can stand as firm as you like but if Christians don't start practicing their faith as Christ intended it will die.

Mass at my (Catholic) church today had 25 people. 25! Mostly old.

....and 5 of them were Muslim.

Unless and until the largest Christian denomination decides to elevate women to equal status, it will continue to wither on the vine.
rockbanger 5/18/2014 3:14:04 PM Report

Jimssm

You are speaking wisely....

When my children were younger and in grade school they attended the Catholic School System.
I would attend the meetings/functions as a parent and was given a very humbling lesson.
I learned about the lack of attendance at daily mass. Mass in the mornings during the week.

What I saw was spooky and in a way sad.
There were only very old or sickly people in attendance and very few at that. What I took from this was how badly the numbers are in our churches today.

But I still stand by the fact that no one shall push me away from my beliefs. I give all other folks full rights to believe and practice as they choose to.
However this does not give any other religion the right to put my religious beliefs system ahead of theirs nor should they expect me to sit back and allow other religions to try and reduce or infringe upon my faith in Christ. Not going to happen.

Jimssm..... Thanks of your extremely valid point.

With respect...the rockbanger!!

flyhawk25 5/18/2014 3:35:12 PM Report

The RCC is crumbling under its own weight.
Prior to the election of Francis it was a bastion of conservative autocrats who were more intent on maintaining control of the people them ministering to them.
In spite of having kids in their elementary schools who receive lessons for sacraments their numbers begin to decline in high schools because their message does not resonate with kids.
They are looking for a method of worship that that focuses on social justice and a joyful celebration of God.
I lived through my best friend leaving the priesthood after 30 years because he 'just could not lie to people I love'.
I don't think what they have become is what Jesus intended.
theprotector 5/18/2014 3:59:44 PM Report

That is not what I said. Zing please explain hiw I sm a racist? Because I point out the short comings of your thinking and stereo typing?
No I dont agree with the small percetage of the worlds population thst follows shari law. Doesnt mean I condemn a region and ethic base of the wormd..that is barbaric. And as zing has said when you dont like something change it...so these "people" want to they can move right zing? Educste yourself dor a change mallet and zing . People like you guys simply look for a reason to hate because you just want to hate. I feel sorry for you and anyone that shares your life.
rockbanger 5/18/2014 4:16:38 PM Report

Flyhawk25

I know that you are speaking from real knowledge.

It should be known that almost all my children's friends (my children included)... want nothing to do with the RCC and see it as an outdated lie. They all went to the RC-school system.

When I realized this during their last year of high school I was both shocked and saddened. My goal of sending them to the RC-school system was to enhance their belief in Christ and the church. They stopped going to church in their last year of high school. It is not my idea to force them to continue to go to church if they do not wish to be there.

My children will tell you they believe in the life of Christ but see the RCC as a method of mind control. They will also tell you that the teachers were for the most part hypocrites and just people working a job?

The RC-school system is not what it appears to be..!

Protector..

Educate myself?...How many Islamic countries have you been to and lived in?? And I do not hate anything, I may have a distinct dislike, but that is all. I strongly suggest that you read a little more than the star and watch the local news, that way you may find out a bit more of what goes on in the world. You state a small percentage follow Sharia law, like Saudi Arabia, Sudan,Iran and depending on which branch of Islam you follow quite a few countries in Africa and as a religion Islam rivals the Catholic Church in numbers and as devotees more, I would guess. I am sorry, but it seems you know nowt about a lot.

Mr. Poster 5/18/2014 4:51:55 PM Report

I went through the Catholic faith,,its schools,,,its churches.. IN ELEMENTARY school we were told only Catholics go to heaven. We were led like sheep to the altar rail to confess our sins. We had little idea what sins were. I used to say I disobeyed my mother 3 times. for lack of any other KNOWN sins at that time.I have now started the process of recovery...whereby I have my faith(believe there is a power out/up there) but have eliminated all the middle men such as popes...bishops and priests. I now avoid the middlemen and talk directly to my "god".It is a much simpler life when one realizes that they can miss mass and still avoid the flames of hell.

Fly, could you read over your post 3.35.12?

It's everything OK?
flyhawk25 5/18/2014 6:13:40 PM Report

Kids - and teenagers in particular - have a nose for BS.
But I was in a charismatic church in San Luis Mexico and the kids ran the liturgy. They did the music and liturgical dance in their finest clothes.
It was a joyful spiritual experience.
Try that in most RCC churches. It won't be allowed.
I think that good liturgy is good theater - real, meaningful and connected.
irishfey 5/18/2014 6:52:40 PM Report

Thanks Rockbanger, It's just that before if you mentioned God in here, you got a strip tore off you. Is nice to see now it can be talked about in a more mature manner..... Mr Poster.. You are so right!!! The ONLY way to have a personal relationship with God is a " one on one"! Cut out the middle man and have just you and the Lord, that's what counts in the long run anyway... No Church or other Men ( Pope etc. ) can save you, just God!!!
Bobby Nerves 5/18/2014 7:00:04 PM Report

Your last line defines what the religious ceremony is all about.

My last experience with the church was through the SSPX and we sing the songs as they were, the Kyrie, Adoramus and so. The ceremonial environment is the one that rises the spirit.

After the CV II, all countries started the mass with the priest facing the door instead of the Ara and the mass was celebrated in their own language and many other artistic touches, but the point is on how the environment, the liturgy itself rises your spirit and prepares you to receive.

We follow the old tradition and the mass is celebrated as it was in the beginning, something you will not see or hear around anymore.

Don't get upset with me if I use your above paragraph as it reflects to the "T" what I believe in....

I as well stand by the fact that no one shall push me away from my beliefs (or non beliefs as it were). I give all other folks full rights to believe and practice as they choose to.
However this does not give any religion/faith or conviction the right to infringe upon my atheism nor should they expect me to sit back and allow their beliefs in whatever god they so happen to revere and try and reduce or infringe upon my thoroughly researched and meditated conviction that there is no god. Because it is not not going to happen.
Furthermore, keep your religion to yourself, practice it, pray, worship but please....keep me and especially my children out of it!
And I shall extend you the same courtesy and not bring the topic up unless provoked.

Thank you very much and lets keep it civil.
