Finally some rain.

I guess I must have upset steelworker.

He managed to grunt two posts late last night.

"Sorry stats but the Romans overran Britain during the day. Should I ask for reperations from Rome. Grow up you twit."

Brilliant analogy and the historical relevance is dead on! I concede defeat!
I never knew that Britain was overrun during the day.
I guess one could ask for "reperations" but who knows what one would get.

"What did your saviour say: Political correctness comes out of the barrel of a gun. Keep marching tool."

He is referring to my Kalashnikov comment.
He can be forgiven for not having fully developed reading comprehension skills or the ability to contextualize what is said in the course of a thread, as it was very late.

Then again, it appears that the time of the day or night doesn't seem to influence the imbecilic nature of his posts.

Just when I thought the Republicans in the states could get any nuttier out comes Karl Rove's new book in which he posits that Hillary Clinton has suffered brain damage.
Rove of course is part of the Evil Triumvirate of himself, Cheney and Rumsfeld so take that for what it's worth.
This is another wacko theory like the Obama birth issue but just bet Rush and his posse will beat it to death.
Just consider some of their high profile candidates in recent history and you have to ask - who has the brain damage?
Heck - who has a brain?

flyhawk25 5/15/2014 10:56:24 AM Report

Following the neo-con template from the states we can expect attacks on Trudeau's 'wild life style and non traditional ideas'.
Mr. Poster 5/15/2014 10:58:11 AM Report

It would seem the Conservatives in the Soo are not very supportive of their choice. We have yet to see a pic of Fremlin...no signs around town....no idea what he stands for. It is almost like he is running as an independent. Is he a self appointed/anointed candidate ?

It will be a cake walk for Trudeau, Harper et al have made it very easy.
As far as locally we might as well appoint the CEO to the post since he is the puppet master for who ever dares fill the seat after what her name is long gone.
Wynne will win another minority gov and will will retain our current provincial memeber.
As far as our MP is concerned...well...hmm does he have a pulse? Perhaps, does he represent the Sault in a proper manner and does he fight to bring jobs and money here, nope not at all. Out with your lazy ass!
cathyh 5/15/2014 11:43:53 AM Report

I find it odd that Hudak hasn't come to the Sault to promote the conservative candidate. Maybe Hudak doesn't know what he looks like either. It's also odd that the news people in the Sault haven't asked questions about his candidacy, like where is he?
notpc 5/15/2014 11:47:13 AM Report

I see that Kathleen Wynne has sunk to a new low in her approach to electioneering. She visited Walkerton, the site of the tragic deaths due to contaminated water some 15 years ago, and implied that Hudak's cuts of 100,000 public sector job cuts could lead to a repeat of that type of thing. In other words, she is exploiting a real tragedy in the name of trying to make her political opponent look bad.

She did this despite knowing a couple relevant things. First, no politician in his right mind is going to make cuts in water safety after what happened in Walkerton. Hudak himself responded that what she implied would never happen. Second, she knows that although cuts in supervision were found to contribute to the Walkerton tragedy, ultimate blame for that was put on the Koebel brothers who deliberately covered up the dangerous sample results they had.

To make matters worse she offered $30M of money that the government doesn't have to the Clean Water Centre in Walkerton, but for what? The Centre already functions well. What is the extra money for? Well of course, it's a political bribe.

I suspect she might be getting pretty desperate to resort to these kinds of tactics.

Wynne cannot lose !!Voters do not like Hudak and are mad as hell at ANDREA and the NDP...who have slipped tremendously in the polls. It will be another minority LIBERAL win and a win for David O as well.
notpc 5/15/2014 12:18:49 PM Report

Mr Poster

You may be right about Wynne winning. I just saw a speech by Hazel McCallion, mayor of Mississaugua in which she endorsed Wynne and essentially said that the gas plant scandal was no big deal and that people should just move on and ignore it. She didn't say anything about the other billion dollar scandals like ORNGE and e-Health, but I assume those don't matter to her either.

But I'm afraid that what she said reflects the opinion of a lot of Ontario voters. Millions of voters don't care that the province is essentially broke and that the government is scandal-riddden. All they know is that Wynne "gives them stuff that they like" and they don't want to hear the strong medicine that Hudak is preaching. Someday when the credit rating agencies downgrade Ontario's debt and Wynne has to take away all that "stuff", they'll get it, but by then it will be too late.
Claudius 5/15/2014 12:54:39 PM Report

Perhaps people think that it's austerity now or its austerity later. If so, better to go tell "hell in a handcart" with Wynne than with Hudak. Seriously though, I think its too early to read the tea leaves. A week is a lifetime in an election!

...............................

If you were so aware , as to how long the IPCC was around, you were intentionally attempting to discredit someone (them) for changing the label from Global Warming to Climate Change. I merely pointed out to you that they have been around for quite some time. As for what the 'I' stands for, the meanings of the two words conjure up the same meaning. Apparently even you picked up on it. I stand by the fact that they are a multilateral group, not controlled by one or another individual government, such as the US.

They certainly deserve more respect than the beer hall conspiracists.

Pretty sure Vic Fremlin owns Lock City. According to numerous news reports R.Fremlin is a retired firefighter.None of the news items mentioned any connection to Lock City
Mr. Poster 5/15/2014 1:39:35 PM Report

I think a visit by Hudak to the Soo is way down at the bottom of his bucket list. He has to find us on a map first .He will only come here if they think they have a good chance of winning....and that makes sense when you consider how many places there are in this province.
gcubed 5/15/2014 1:39:59 PM Report

I don't think Rod Fremlin owns Lock City Dairy. It is my understanding that he is a retired Fireman. The Lock City owner may be his brother. Mr. Fremlin was just nominated. It takes time to have signs made and put up. The N.D.P. and the Liberal Party had their candidates ready long before the election was called. Someone must know Mr. Fremlin if the SooToday poll means anything at all.

I think Albedo's main point was that the narrative coming from the IPCC and global warmists has changed from "we have to do something about this global warming" to "we have to do something about this climate change".

In order to get people to continue to pay attention and stay scared, they had to change the narrative because the climate just wasn't cooperating any more with the global warming narrative.

For all those who believes in religious freedoms and diversity, I wonder what you make of this on the BBC news website... Sudan women faces death for Apostasy.. The item goes on to say that the pregnant women, married a Christian man, faces being hanged 2 years after the child is born, plus as soon as she recovers from the birth will also be lashed a hundred times for adultery, having married out of her faith... And Canada helps and supports these countries??? I would like to know on what grounds we help these countries, surely not human rights, how about democracy, any civilised reason. How about we, as a country, withdraw all support for countries that will not sign a contract to abide by our ideas of human rights???

I read the same story and have to admit, you make a good point. Along the same lines, the Sudanese judge imposed this sentence based on Islamic sharia law, which is also supported in wealthy oil producing countries in the Middle East.

I wonder how much aid is provided to Sudan by these sharia practicing countries compared with aid from democracies like Canada and others. I don't know the answer, but wouldn't be surprised to discover that the democracies provide more, which would indeed be ironic. Sending money to support a country that promotes the very same legal system with which Islamists are promising to replace our own democratic legal system.

Wicket 5/15/2014 5:00:15 PM Report

Rod Fremlin is a brother of Vic Fremlin who owns Lock City Dairies. Vic and another brother, Tom, also own Klubota Tractor sales and a few other enterprises.
Their father, Jack Fremlin, was active in politics in the Echo Bay, Bar River area which is where they all grew up.
They may not be as well known in the Soo but they are well known "down the line".
Claudius 5/15/2014 5:03:16 PM Report

The Sault Firefighters Association endorsed David Orazietti yesterday. This was a little surprising as Mr. Fremlin is one of their own. The Association spokesperson said it "wasn't personal.'."
Mr. Poster 5/15/2014 5:23:38 PM Report

Does it REALLY make any difference in who the firefighters support? Their total votes are a drop in the bucket and who says every firefighter will vote Liberal.
Claudius 5/15/2014 5:49:09 PM Report

It seems to make a difference to Sault Star which headlined the story and to CBC pundits who mentioned it. I don't think its the actual number of votes- rather it is PR value for the candidate being endorsed. e.g. When the Sault Star (a conservative organ) ran the story it provided an opportunity for the Firefighter's Association to sing peons of praise to the Liberals. Tons of publicity in a Sunmedia paper...priceless.

Bobby Nerves 5/15/2014 6:54:05 PM Report

In my interpretation, the manifest support that Mr. Orazietti received from the Union is as imaginary as the million jobs that Mr. Hudak is voicing to create everywhere he goes and to anyone that is there to listen.

Many things can be truth but do not exist.

Perhaps is comparable to Ms. Wynne reminding us that the Walkerton tragedy took place for a reason, at the time, shortage of qualified technical personnel to supervise the operations of the plant, among many others.

Above all, Walkerton, a very bad thing, had to happen to avoid another that could have been even worst, Mr. Mike Harris re-re-election.

As voters, we must remain alert as robo calls are a thing from the past, but we may be facing a lot of creativity in this campaign.

Regarding your 2:16 post today:

..... the narrative coming from the IPCC and the global warmists has changed from "we have to do something about this global warming" to "we have to do something about this climate change".

IN ORDER TO GET PEOPLE TO CONTINUE TO PAY ATTENTION AND TO STAY SCARED, THEY HAD TO CHANGE THE NARRATIVE...

Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin. Once upon a time.... (For any Badhammers out there). :):)

There was a Republican strategist named Frank Luntz. He was a resident pollster/wordsmith-obfuscator employed in the Bush Administration and also used by several high-profile Repubs before and after that position.

A Luntz memo of 2002 (The Environment: A Cleaner, Safer, Healthier America ... The Luntz Research Companies - Straight Talk) outlined for then president GWB and Repubs and the Bush Administration how they could attempt to spin, delay and obstruct meaningful action on Climate Change.

There is a "wealth" of misinformation in the memo BUT ALLOW ME TO DIRECT YOU ... notpc ... TO A COUPLE OF LUNTZ'S AIMPOINTS ...

Pg. 142 of the memo directed at GWB, the Bush Admin and top Repubs:

"It's time to start talking about "climate change" instead of global warming and "conservation" instead of preservation.

1. "Climate change" is less frightening than "global warming"...."
******************************************
Pg. 138 of the memo:

"The scientific debate is closing [against us] but not yet closed. There is still a window of opportunity to challenge the science".

* The passage from pg. 142 kinda stands your point, about who was pushing to CHANGE anything, on its head OR sits it on its a__, depending a person's point of view.

I used the term "deniers" since you seem to favour catchwords ... Like "warmists".

I threw in the quote from pg.138 kinda as a bonus.

Excellent post. I never did quite understand why Global Warming wasn't politically correct at some point. More lies from Dubya's camp. Their lies have caused way more damage than any other administration that I have lived through.

Albedo, as for taking another shot at the US, I am 'deeply' offended by your accusation that you infer that I may be racist towards Americans. "Why, some of my best friends are Americans", said David Duke!!!

Actually, it's true. I have many American friends who feel the same about their government (especially Bush) that I do. They do love their country though.
