Welcome back, Spellchecker---good to see you have not abandoned your "Hobby"
When the"words of the week"appeared in the past, it was always a highlight.
bounder 5/11/2014 7:25:26 AM Report

Oh no the Spelly is back I'll have to watch my
bounder 5/11/2014 7:36:56 AM Report

BN now you are in the running for a Persona non Grata. What an insulting post you have put up. Where is the moderator?
bounder 5/11/2014 7:39:25 AM Report

Spelly meant, you're.
Bobby Nerves 5/11/2014 7:45:03 AM Report

There is something you ignore. Correcting the speech is not only an insult; it's an action aimed to restrain peoples opinion, and it's call bullying.

You may like it and probably enjoy, but it's not correct.

You can call a moderator and report the message but that will not change the fact that the post is a personal insult.

Mr. Poster 5/11/2014 7:50:09 AM Report

I think bounder if referring to your insult by calling spelly a drunk...that was uncalled for...I agree with bounder. I am sure the moderator will remove your post, least he/she SHOULD !!!
Zing 5/11/2014 7:57:05 AM Report

Bobby Nerves

I don't get where Spelly insulted you, but I get that you did insult Spelly.

I love the Words Of The Week and over the years Spellchecker has taught me about many more things other than just spelling. What's wrong with what he posted to incite you to make such remarks?

You need to chill.
Zing 5/11/2014 8:01:58 AM Report

Thanks for the (*) star Spelly, although I have not been in here for a while due to all the name calling, slander, and hatred which took over this room lately.
I was going to close my account but could find no delete process to do so. I popped in to see what was up and Bobby Nerves is still at it. I thought higher of Bobby Nerves.
Just Curious 5/11/2014 8:13:13 AM Report

Funny, I never considered Spelly's words of the week an insult at all. I used to think my spelling and command of the language was pretty good until he proved to me otherwise.. I must be getting better, my name's not on it this time.. Welcome back, Sir. Pay no attention to the nay-sayers.:).
irishfey 5/11/2014 8:36:47 AM Report

Good Morning and Happy Mothers Day to all. Flowers and a nice bottle of "wine", after all , you're the reason she drinks. ,lol..( I seen that one on facebook .) Welcome back Spelly!!!.. You correct us with grace and honesty, for our own good and we thank you and are not insulted in the least. Just hope that if you got Mrs. Spelly an indoor plant.. it was flowers! :)... Ha ha PRO.. you got the most ( jk. ).. only because there was not enough room on this site to post all of my mistakes ,lol.... MONITER..If you are a she.. Happy Mothers Day as well.. ( grovelling (sp) at its finest :) )... Have a great day folks....
lookaround 5/11/2014 8:40:37 AM Report

Wow you truly are a spell checker. Do I get a gold star?
irishfey 5/11/2014 8:42:18 AM Report

PRO.. Oops sorry. I have more mistakes than you, i forgot the ones in the R.R ,lol
lookaround 5/11/2014 8:44:39 AM Report

My spelling mistakes are not true mistakes as my typing isn't the greatest and my typing as bad as it is, is faster than my mind thought. In as much as spelling is a tad outdated thing in this faster than lightening E world I try but don't make spelling a faux pas.
flyhawk25 5/11/2014 8:47:46 AM Report

I thought Bobby's comment was out of line and uncalled for.
I know both people and like them.I hope that they can resolve this amicably.
But Spelly - I used 'goggled' as a verb and did not capitalize it on purpose. As for my Spanish ...guilty as charged. My Spanish is worse than my French.
Big Bad Bob 5/11/2014 9:05:57 AM Report

Ditto to your first sentence.
Spellchecker 5/11/2014 9:34:51 AM Report

My thanks go to those who are happy with my free educational service. It's my only talent folks, so thanks for bearing with me.

Lookaround, take one of the stars from the bottom of the list. I usually don't designate the stars because I invariably overlook someone.

I'm so excited I'm not on the list !!!!

....but I didn't post

Snobank 5/11/2014 9:42:32 AM Report

As soon as I read BN's insulting remarks to Spelly I reported it before going any further. BN is becoming increasingly incoherent and seems determined, for some reason, to lower the new tone on this board.
irishfey 5/11/2014 9:50:51 AM Report

Snobank, i agree, especially when the others are trying hard to keep this site nice.

Factoid # 1 - On Mothers' Day there are more long distance phone calls made in North America than any other day of the year.

Factoid # 2 - On Fathers Day there are more long distance COLLECT phone calls made in North America than any other day of the year.

Factoid # 3 - It is exactly 7 months and 14 days until Christmas.
Pilgrim 5/11/2014 10:02:03 AM Report

I agree Snobank ... I may not come out of my "exile" often BUT I will when I feel that a line has been crossed.

I have reported him as well.... there is NO place for this unwarranted type of character assassination..

BN you can try to defend yourself as much as you want but you will never convince me that your attack was justified... NEVER...

Good to see you Spellchecker... BTW what did you think of the race last night? See you in the RR.
atticus 5/11/2014 10:14:01 AM Report

I would think that BN, in his alleged effort to improve his command of the English language, would be more than appreciative of Spelly's free service. I know that I am grateful for the refreshers.
Spellchecker 5/11/2014 10:22:06 AM Report

Hi Pilgrim. Nice to see you again. My NASCAR involvement was mostly because of a contest I was into down at the Tilt'n Hilton. I'm not into it this year. MY wife is more of a NASCAR fan than I. She usually watches it.

irishfey 5/11/2014 11:00:31 AM Report

Ummm, JIMSSM.. Your first sentence with the.. "I'm "... should that not be... " i'm " ?, as you are not starting a sentence with it?.. Spelly??... If i'm going down, i'm taking all i can with me ,lol,lol.... I could be wrong in this and if i am.. RATS!!! :)
Zing 5/11/2014 11:07:25 AM Report

Nice try, but when referring to yourself it is always capitalized.
If the word was 'me', then your rule works.

Snobank 5/11/2014 11:08:07 AM Report

Spelly seems to have stepped out so I will attempt. When the letter i is used as a first person pronoun it is always capitalized no matter where you use it in a sentence. Sorry, Irish.

@Wise---you havn't lost it.To me that is a good thing. In the good old days the occasional jabs were always good for a much needed laugh.Unfortunately some amatures and prudes are far too serious and found the humour offensive. All theyhad to do was delete the"Posts" they found offensive and, humour lost, but personal vindication gained. As they say in Louisiana---"cest la vie".Someday they will grow tired of whining, as tiresome as they are, and move on.Hopefully it won't be long, as it is becoming a little boring with the lack of humour. As my mentor "Little Wolf" always says--"Laughter --the best medicine"

This may or may not be true, but from what I hear , on one of his house calls he met an older Dame, ex-hippie with five cats, Chloe I believe.
Glances were exchanged, something clicked and next thing I know they loaded up her 1969 Econoline and moved to Portland , Oregon .
Chloe took over an incense and healing crystals shop whilst rw practices and teaches reiki.
atticus 5/11/2014 5:30:26 PM Report

It's more likely RW is having a peaceful and respectful day with his other half and chooses to ignore this site some more. And 'Rightfully so'.

Rats!!! Sorry Jimssm, can't blame an old gal from trying ,lol.. I guess i have to really try and watch my spelling, "I'm " always the one with the most errors ,lol... I did give myself some stars though in the R.R for not saying " me " as much :).. ( Spelly is cheap with his stars lol ).. Guess i have to earn them like the other folk. Hope you all had a great day, I did.....

Irish, I do think Rockbanger was being funny in his posting. He deliberately filled it with errors.
Snobank 5/11/2014 9:02:25 PM Report

Sorry, upon back checking I discovered it was highway1 that made the posting full of deliberate errors. My apologies to Rockbanger for attempting to label him as having a sense of humour. My apologies to Irish for everything.

Hey, Spelly. Had to get back to you. My granddaughter and my daughter have been in Montreal this weekend for the International Dictee competition. Out of 300,000 who were tested, she ended up in the top 95 who had an all expenses paid trip. She did not end up in the top 3 and will find out later where she placed. However, the MC (as this was televised) interviewed the sole participant from Senegal and asked her what was the highlight of her weekend and she replied meeting ..... , my granddaughter.
Kind of brings tears to our eyes.
Keep up the good work and avoid toxic interference!
flyhawk25 5/11/2014 9:41:41 PM Report That is wonderful and speaks to who she is as a young lady.
You should be proud.

Thank you Spelly for bringing back the "Words of the Week". I believe people have two responses to your lists. One is the obstinate person that rebuts your list of corrections and will never change no matter what is suggested to them.
The other takes your suggestions and corrects the use of their there, they're, then, than, to, two and also too.
Others may not realize it, but by reading your weekly lists, they may be unconsciously correcting their spelling through grammatical 'osmosis'.
Keep it up despite the criticism, everyone wins.
