BIG BROTHER 5/3/2014 8:06:55 AM Report

I just saw Hudak on CBC asking rhetorically why the NDP keep propping up the liberals.

Hudak just doesn't get it, I suppose. The fact that he is a knob of the highest order and the NDP would prefer the bumbling liberals over him, may explain it.
flyhawk25 5/3/2014 8:25:33 AM Report

Good morning BB.
Can you imagine how the Tories would do in this election with a credible leader?
I wonder if any of our cyber experts will come forward to run for them here.Of course they'd actually have to appear in public and defend a position.
And that won't happen.
BIG BROTHER 5/3/2014 8:36:47 AM Report

I consider literacy, not as someone's ability to memorize Shakespeare and puke it back, but a person's ability to communicate in a given subject.

For example, if I were looking for an interpretation of Shakespeare, I would ask fly or Shakey. If I had a mechanical problem with my car, I would ask SQ. In SQ's case, I may also ask him his interpretation of a Shakespearean quote. Plumbing....rw. See where this is going?

I have known people who had limited language skills and limited math skills, yet ask them to build something, they had the ability to build it in the time it would take a so-called literate person to read Merchant of Venice. I would therefore think that the builder is quite literate in his area of expertise, also. And a hell of a lot more practical!!
BIG BROTHER 5/3/2014 8:43:35 AM Report

I know mallet gave me shite yesterday for not living in the moment. Forget what happened in the past...it has no effect on today's world. He was referring to my obsession with Dubya.

Well, I still have nightmares about another reign of Mike Harris and his form of 'common sense'. Based on mallet's thinking, I should be in denial over Harris and move forward with fresh faced ideas. Sorry mallet, history is an important tool to employ, when making decisions today.

Hudak is a Mike Harrisite, only more extreme. Fly, they are not my stripe, no matter who they have to lead them. I do get what your point is though....they would be a shoe-in with the right leader.

So lets see now...if we do not vote for Hudak(which many of us dislike immensely) and we do not vote for Andrea because she is NDP...does that mean Katie Wynne wins? Talk about being between a rock and a hard place !!!

Big Brother, you're articulated and have a good command of english to express your ideas which could even be brighter than your knowledge of the language.

Why, then, do you attack the parties that may have a platform, but no a clear plan, no candidate and not even a campaign manager. Why don't you talk about your own ideas, your vision, what menu would you offer to voters?

Not pissing contest, as you're not a person of engage in any and we have enough around, still, but let's talk about our own plans, should we have one, instead of attacking an enemy that have no plan.

Did I make it clear enough for you?

Mr P. .. Sorry, but if you don't want tax and spend on steroids,(aka) NDP, and you've had it with Dalton and Katie, you may have to hold your nose or stay home.

Hey where in the hecs Grump? Is he flooded out ?
redranger 5/3/2014 10:09:17 AM Report

Big Bother
I have to agree with you on a few things. There are posters on here who are masters of their trade and should be respected for knowledge in those areas. I would not question RW on plumbing, SQ on mechanics or rubber dollies or Grump on construction. I respect Fly and Shake with regard to literary knowledge. (I don't know Spelly)There are a few others with good experience in mining, logging etc (mallet and JC) and even Steelworker knows much more than I about steelmaking. There is even a poster who seems to know much about stocks and bonds and I read what he posts with interest. And now we come to you BB. What is it in which you are an expert? Do you really know anything?
redranger 5/3/2014 10:11:10 AM Report

Because it is election season and I never argue politics, I will be away from the Blue Room until June 13. Stay well posters.
mallet 5/3/2014 10:54:49 AM Report

Old Cat 33..

Not sure what happened to Grump, he maybe laid up, never know what you may catch with all those furry rats anal areas, or perhaps he did get too close to the swamp and the swampers grabbed him and are in the process of turning him into a Conservative, some turtles can give a nasty bite in some places unmentionable. Or maybe the men in white coats have taken him back to that place where obsessions with Harper are dealt with, but I am sure he will surface again sometime...
BIG BROTHER 5/3/2014 10:56:20 AM Report

That would be my question to you redranger. What exactly is your expertise?

It seems that you like to hide in the weeds, wait for someone to make a spelling or grammar error and then pounce on them, using your 'high acumen' in those areas. That doesn't make you more intelligent, as you would like to think. It is especially so, when you take those shots, using improper grammar yourself, or even the odd spelling mistake.

I make no claim to expertise in any area. This is not a pissing contest, as Bobby stated. I make an opinion on politics, I make spelling mistakes and grammar errors. I've yet to read an opinion on any topic, from you. It is usually to merely point out other's errors in writing, in order to put down their opinion, making you an obviously superior person.

Whatever floats your boat.
Spellchecker 5/3/2014 11:11:53 AM Report

Man, did my sweetheart ever give me a rough time in the red room this morning. I'm taking it on the chin from every direction these days, lol.

Big Brother...

I do not give "shite" to anyone, I just observed that you have an obsession with a certain EX president. EX means they no longer have the power to influence the government of the day. When you dwell in the past, you tend to miss out on what happens today and what will happen tomorrow. Did your favourite pastime make mistakes, sure he did, did he "flub" his lines in speeches, sure, ever tried public speaking without a script? If you want to go back in time try N Chambelin and his piece of paper for WW2, or "Poldi" and his wrangling to start the first world war. I think all decisions to send combat forces anywhere should be put to a public vote, Harper sending 6 jets and 50 troops to Europe is pure fantasy on his part and in event of hostilities with Russia those men are gone, and for what, a possibility of a few Ukrainian peoples votes, pure and utter stupidity...

66cherokee 5/3/2014 12:33:22 PM Report

Maybe Hudak isn't personable, but he's a lot better than Wynne. She is trying to remove herself from McGuinty, but that can't happen. She was in cabinet during that time. The gas plant fiasco(she was in Cabinet at that time), the E Health, the Orange ambulance service, and oh yes, did anyone know that the big orange helicopters that were purchased had side windows blow out. They haven't said anything about that. Can you see something like that happening while they are transporting a patient in the James Bay area, in the middle of the winter. They would perish before help could arrive. And yes, I know that that has happened.
Ms Wynne says that higher income earners are going to be paying more taxes. Did anyone look at the high earning amount. Not your average worker, it's I believe $250,000. Who makes those wages? Not that many people. Don't let yourselves be fooled by this.
The Liberals have screwed up everything since in power, and now they propose an Ontario Pension Plan. They can't even manage OUR money as tax payers, and they want to manage a pension fund. Do people not realize that for the first year, the employer is going to have to fork over the money, and where do you think that's going to come from?? their bottom line. So, to pay for all the money they have to fork over for the Ontario Pension Plan, they will lay off workers. And then the second year and thereafter, the worker will have to pay into this plan. Some people can just barely make ends meet, and now they'll have more money taken off their paycheck.
The Liberals have placed us in a 11 billion deficit, then promised over 5 billion more even before the budget, then promise us more in the budget. Where in G--'s name is the money going to come from. Yes, we the taxpayer. The Province of Ontario will be so much in debt.
I do remember the Harris times, and when he told the people of Ontario what he was going to do, he did it. He didn't lie like McGuinty who told us that there would be no more taxes, and the first thing he does, he introduces the health tax, but hey, he said it wasn't a tax, but a fee. It's the same thing.
I want to wait and see what the NDP has to say. I hope that it is a well balance, not heavily taxed promises.
irishfey 5/3/2014 12:34:43 PM Report

This may be the most progressive budget since Bob Rae tried to spend his way to please everybody. Within a short time Ontario added 16 billion to the debt and Ontario has never really recovered. This budget is another wild spending plan without any way of paying for it except higher taxes and new revenue streams (new taxes). This budget proposal proves the liberals are out of control and trying to buy an election victory.
BIG BROTHER 5/3/2014 1:14:57 PM Report

705,
I agree with you, to some extent. The problem I have, is not enough info on the proposed budget. It's now a moot point, at any rate. Also, I think Wynne simply floated a balloon out there, to see which way the wind is blowing. She didn't like the direction, so she's now taking it to the voters.
7058262 5/3/2014 1:17:31 PM Report

If they really knew what was best for us they wouldn't tax us to a point we are unable to save for our retirement. They steal our money and 55% pays for public service sector salaries. They have created 2 classes of the so called middle class. The public sector have great salaries, excellent benefits and a pension plan that the rest of us don't have, all with OUR money. We pay for their retirement and now she wants to steal even more? We, what's left of the middle class are poor because of Liberal policies of tax, spend and burn. That's the problem. Perhaps they should take the pensions of the public service and divide it equally between all retirees. That would be fairer than stealing more money from us.
flyhawk25 5/3/2014 2:00:08 PM Report

Brilliant comrade.
Now you'd steal from the rich to give to the poor.
Comrade Karl would be proud.Of course the unions would scream, you'd lose the proletariat and really piss off folks with existing pensions.
Are you really Bob Rae?

Flyhawk...

We are all equal.... it's just some are more equal than others... Wish I was an "Other"...
rockbanger 5/3/2014 3:13:35 PM Report

The key is to make your children realize how good the public sector is for employment and coach or direct them to acquire a job within the public sector.

CASH 4 LIFE....

No political party will ever do the right thing and whittle back the public sector unions.. They need their 3% raises with full benefit and retirement packages.
Impossible as the teachers, nurses, doctors will just strike and the sitting party will cave in. The other public unions are just as powerful and will do the same thing. Government unions have unlimited power as compared with private industry unions.

Train your children to find employ within the provincial government.

Teaching is an example. Hiring is based on nepotism but if one stays on the part time teaching list they will be successful and get in full-time. Even if you work for the public sector unions in lesser positions you will be much better off than the majority of taxpayers who fund your position.

The day we see a politician who rises up and has the ability/skill to stop the government unions from growing out of control as they have...... that is the day we have found a genius. Absolute genius.

Until then mentally prepare for continual tax hikes....
statusquo 5/3/2014 3:58:51 PM Report

rockbanger,

You nailed it !
It is a sad situation but it is what it is and there is not a hell of a lot we can do about it.
Public sector wages are out of control and unsustainable.
It's easy to talk about tightening the belt as long as it is not your own belt. And so the taxes are going up, business is stifled , the economy suffers but the public sector will continue to get their inflation adjusted pay raises.
I am self employed and have to look out for number one all by my self . No safety net for me! Guarantees there are none. I have to work no matter what. I don't mind it as long as I remain healthy, but as one grows older the specter of injuries and/or sickness becomes an ever tangible possibility .
I chose this path for better or for worse and so I have to live with it and taking everything into consideration I don't regret it.

It is what it is.

Again. Good post.
Bobby Nerves 5/3/2014 4:15:39 PM Report

Again, then you need Rick Snyder.

Would Hudak be up to the task?

mallet 5/3/2014 5:07:03 PM Report

Status Quo and Bobby..

This is the problem, can you single out a single union to be the whipping boy for all the rest. People are already talking about the slash and burn of "programs" should Hudak get elected. Others are talking about the unsustainable ideas of the NDP, and then the Liberals who have taxed and cost the province more than anyone else. Most people go back to Harris, who did what he said he would, Rae who gave people days off rather than shrink the public service unions, and then Mcguinty whose lips moved and told untruths. Where do the lot stand today? Ms Wynne says she will re-introduce her budget if elected to a majority, can I afford her, not unless she raises my pensions.. Hudak, well he hasn't said too much as yet, wait and see what he comes up with, and Ms Horwath, nothing really concrete there, more wishes than promises.. One thing that has puzzled me though, I understood in a democracy the budget was keep secret so no-one should be able to profit from what was coming, so how come the Liberal budget was "leaked" over a couple of weeks??
rockbanger 5/3/2014 5:49:25 PM Report

Liberal budget was leaked...By design.
Allowing the red machine extra prep time to attempt another win in the coming election.

The vote will be held in roughly in 40 days. If you know your not well liked (as Wynn and her group realize) then you need to leak slowly and feel out the response and play the mental game on the common voter. Make it appear you really do care about them, showing what they would spend on them.

Thus you leak your scam budget by design at the same time you are preparing your posters and writing speeches.

Would love to hear the 3 parties debate this one question and only this question...
" How do you plan to control the power and burgeoning costs of our provincial unions"..?
Make them stick to that question.

None of the debaters will have an answer that will work. The government never has to operate like a real company and never base their next budget on profit or loss scenarios... Governments have an endless supply of money.

Bobby Nerves 5/3/2014 6:48:04 PM Report

To begin, we should be objective, unions do what it's members mandate.

There is something left out of the equation, intentionally perhaps, and it's executives bonus.

I think we have to listen to the candidates and go from there. So far, we know the liberal offer, let's wait for the rest as everyone knew the elections were to be call and if there is any doubt, we only have to look at the party leaders behavior in the last two or three months and you have the answer there.

Think locally and ask yourself how long do you think the steel plant will continue being a larger source of jobs as it's been till now and when it goes down with it will go the golden pensions, like northern telecom and US Steel in Hamilton.

There is something immoral in all of us and it's the fact that our kids will have to pay the money we're borrowing. All of us, no an exception.

As long as people believe that government spending "makes" money, this province is in a world of trouble.
Governments do best when they make laws that encourage business to flourish, and keep their pointy heads out of most everything else.
I'm sure self employed business people like Stats, would agree.

flyhawk25 5/3/2014 7:44:25 PM Report

I'd add to that list that government should also regulate the too frequent use of power by big business to run over workers.
There needs to be a balance but I despair for any political voice speaking to the issue.
The reality is that access to money wins elections.Unions have quite a bit but the owners have more.
And people are goofy enough to believe just about anything. Just read some of the comments on the internet.
