northernmale 4/27/2014 8:00:40 AM Report

Looks like a nice day today. All the snow in yard is gone. Now the fun begins finding all the places the little guy has dumped all winter in the back yard. Rake the lawn and sweep the driveway. Wow wore out already think maybe I best get another coffee and think this out.Have a great day Blur roomies .
rockbanger 4/27/2014 8:14:49 AM Report

Anybody having luck with netting some SMELTS?

If so where and what time of day were they running?

Any quantity..

I'm to old to hit all the rivers anymore.
So if I could hear of one place that I can catch a few feeds from that would be great.

cheers folks

I hear you Northern Male 100 x 60 lot to rake clean the driveway. Pruning and getting the bipolar neighbour to cut my trees for free. Said he had a truck oops now he says he doesn't. Going to rethink this. Need caulking of the brickwork, sanding the deck, roofing the shed, rebuilding the fence and to top it all off I thought I would have nice quiet relaxing
summer. I guess I now know what men really do around the house. Girls appreciate them.

I,too, am too old to go smelting,so I go to Harmony, have a feed, washed down with an adult beverage and afterwords enjoy the scenery as my tee totaling mate drives us home.
Grump 4/27/2014 9:11:18 AM Report

Good morning everyone. Soowat, I agree with you, an older gentleman's quest for a feed of smelts is better held at the Harmony Hotel. My wife gets to have an adult beverage and I get to drive. Status you were in fine form last evening, carry on. Wisen how about a few more fairy tales about oil today? Just read a piece on the Feds not being able to get a handle on the underground economy in the last 10 years. Wow what a surprise!!! Incompetent??? The big three ,construction, restaurants and retail have now been joined by oil producers, gas stations, etc., another big surprise. lol Have a great day all.

Sadly, it is amazing is how many expert oil guru's are on this site. Anyone of you brain surgeons want to bet that the big Keystone pipeline will get approved. If not this year within the next few. It will get approved.

Oil runs the New World Economy and has for the last 80-100 years. Dick Nixon did not move the biggest world economy onto the oil standard for laughs.

So stop arguing about the inevitable..

The few bloggers who are at each others throat should meet at some remote spot and duke it out... Leave your walkers, canes and geritol at home.

Keep blogging but get another topic. For the love of sanity.

Grump...

Oh come on! the underground economy has been around for ages, back yard mechanics, friendly electricians, the odd plumber, construction, roofing, waitresses getting paid under the table. The barter system has been around since the dawn of time, and I don't think Harper is that old.. I forget how many P M's have tried to stop that and of course don't forget Harper and Hayes is responsible for all the smuggling being done here in the Soo from the states, Strange through I hardly ever hear of anything being smuggled into the States, but I guess that's Harper fault as well!!!
Bobby Nerves 4/27/2014 11:00:36 AM Report

Wisenheimer, I don't know much about reading under the water in USA and Canadian politics, but.
USA has two achilles tendon, oil and cocaine, heroine, dope, meth, ephedrine, baking powder or plain Ajax.
Canada is by far the largest and safer USA oil supplier.
Canada is sitting on top of the largest verified natural reserves in the world.
Should the industrial growth continue in the USA and the Economy pick up speed, so will the need for oil.
What's wrong then with a hose providing the oil right to their door?

Well, one could be the pressure from those "wise investors" that own the railroads like Buffet and Gates... pressure of feeding of the Obama fortune, you never know.
Other easy one, is Enbridge not spreading the dough around as it should be... or not reaching to a particular corner.

I always suspected the Quebec train derailment that ended swiping a town off the map, wasn't much of an accident, but rather... well you can't say anything that may not pass the test of a court of law.

Those wise investors, if they have a heart, it's colder than the whore's one.
Bobby Nerves 4/27/2014 11:05:43 AM Report

Wisenheimer, your last message, even when it's addressed to grump, still begs the question... how long it took you to realize the spitting into the win thing?

I imagine the training was hard on you... well, hard and wet, eh?

Wisenheimer 4/27/2014 11:10:58 AM Report

Nervous Bob ... buy some CP or CN, to ease your conscience.
Great Canadian companies delivering oil safely and economically.
Also get some Suncor, Enbridge, Transcanada, to diversify your portfolio.
You'll love the quarterly dividends and perhaps calm yourself down.
Wisenheimer 4/27/2014 11:14:19 AM Report

Wind has a "d" on the end.
Now, speaking of wind, both Enbridge and TRP are big investors in wind and solar, as a way to hedge their businesses. Just like you should.
theprotector 4/27/2014 11:28:35 AM Report

grump the feds dont care about the underground economy. It is my understanding that the revenue canada folks that investigated undergroud econmony were the first to get their walking papers from harper. One is even working at wal mart in Sudbury as a greeter now, of course just shy of being able to collect a pension. Funny how harper is doing this isnt it? And yet others have no issue getting their knees dirty to get a new posting with new digs
Grump 4/27/2014 11:57:08 AM Report

Rockbanger I believe you are correct. Keystone will go ahead as soon as we get rid of Harper. Like Obama or not he is not someone to screw with and Harper has.
BIG BROTHER 4/27/2014 11:58:37 AM Report

And if you would like to hedge your investment in "safe' oil train transportation, you could buy shares in the Lac Megantic Construction and Funeral Company.
Grump 4/27/2014 12:00:10 PM Report

The protector I believe you are also correct and while the underground economy is in the billions it is likely chicken feed to what the oil crowd are getting away with. Harper would not want them looked at.
BIG BROTHER 4/27/2014 12:04:14 PM Report

Grump,
It's about screwing with Harper, but also Climate Change deniers need not apply for permits to transport oil across the US. Kyoto Accord naysayers, ditto.

The whole world is watching, as Canada rejects their lead, mockingly denying any and all scientific evidence. World leaders are in shock, as Canada attempts to 'go it alone'.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. It's called diplomacy (or compromise), something Harper finds unpalatable.
BIG BROTHER 4/27/2014 12:19:49 PM Report

Harper has cajoled, mocked, influence peddled, everything to demean Obama and shame him into acquiescing to Keystone XL. Obama has his limits. Canada's recent lack of direction and participation in world affairs, when it comes to Climate Change, The Kyoto Accord, and now, the Ukraine, Obama's hands are tied. He will negotiate with Putin....but Harper ain't no Putin. And Obama has his constituents to consider. And, reason number 5....Obama is tired of dealing with Tea Party type personalities, in Congress, the type which Harper exudes.
Bobby Nerves 4/27/2014 12:24:55 PM Report

Wisenheimer, I buy nothing, because I own nothing.

I do business when needed, but I adopted the Italian style, easy, fast and satisfaction guaranteed.

It seems to me, your training was a bit difficult huh?

You chose to speak even of things you understand nada about, instead of answering the question of spitting in the win(d) thing... you know how to play dead, do you?
Bobby Nerves 4/27/2014 12:37:01 PM Report

BB, in reality, Obama rather negotiate with Putin instead of having a pact with Evil.

Enbridge and it's baby Keystone will be as beneficial for the communities from the Pacific all the way to the Atlantic as the wind farms are for Sault Ste. Marie. Job Creation my Real Red Canadian, they have a contractor going in once a month to cut the grass.

Not only in Canada, all over the world is plenty of gas and oil lines here and there, they require nothing, they generate profit in detriment of the soil around it and the stress of all communities the pipes pass through.

There is no difference between a pipe line and the tracks for a train, they are there dead and at the service of the investor who's enjoying the baccarat tables in Monaco.

"Climate change deniers"

You have to admire the creativity of the man driven global warming kooks.
Such craftsmanship is shown at twisting wording to fit, as is shown in the above statement, can be anything but admired...or simply called what it is...bullshit at its best.
How can anybody deny that the climate changes.
Seriously.
They don't have the balls (or the proof) to call it what their religion truly teaches...climate is changing, it will result in world wide catastrophe and it is man driven.
Even as public support continues to dwindle they simply shift their predictions further down the road.
Many of their apocalyptic disasters are now set to take place by 2070...a safe time period so the profiteers of this quackery don't have to sell their ocean side properties.
The creators of man driven/global warming/climate change/climate pause/climate scaremongers (IPCC) can simply keep on with creative wording and phrasing.
The truth is they have to as time marches on.

"Temperatures are rising".
This past winter may end up as the 10th coldest winter.
Compared to records dating back to the late 1800s.
Some spots in North America recorded that this was (2013-14) the coldest winter since 1978-1979, 35 years.
Do you see just how perfectly the term "climate change" works here.
Could you imagine the wide eyes, the high fives and back-slapping when the highest priests of the man driven global warming cult realized the power in changing to this term, climate change.
It was all encompassing...how could anybody argue "climate change" and if they do we simply call them deniers.

rw,
We have discussed, debated, googled and giggled over the Global Warming, Climate Change issue ad nauseam. I'm quite sure I'll get lured in once again. For the time being...

I was merely pointing out that Obama has less use for Harper than even Harper knows. His 'bully' tactics work fine for his little fiefdom (and MP's like Bryan) that we like to call Parliament. But, on the world stage, he is an embarrassment to himself and self-respecting Canadians. He stomps around his castle and can't seem to understand why he just can't enact every little whim he has. If it weren't so damaging to Canada, it would be hilarious.

Trudeau stated that he admired the Chinese system, where he doesn't have to develop consensus to enact policy. Remember that?? He obviously knows better. Harper acts like he has the same power as the Chinese Premier, but knocks Trudeau for making his statement.

Democracy is the least efficient form of government. Someone, the other day, was commenting on how much money was wasted investigating the election scandals; investigating Nigel Wright's scams; and so on. I say, welcome to democracy. It's designed with checks and balances and we either utilize those checks or we let Harper be our Fuhrer. He would jump at that opportunity. We don't need anymore elections then. Imagine the money we would save. Reform the Senate...right after dinner.

On the warming climate...

There is money to be made in CCT or Carbon Capture Technology.

As a rock banger I can tell you all with certainty that earth's climate has risen a number of times and excessive carbon was to blame...

Now for all the deniers we will see how well we as humans can adapt to this change as this time around we have a written record of events and can actually watch and discuss the results of the current cycle.

Our grandchildren may suffer a brutal end because of our present day arrogance. But as I say all the time we are in a hydrocarbon economy and that is something that is not quickly reversible. Wish it were!

But...if the warming is too harsh too quickly? We as fragile little humans will go the way of the doo doo.

The Science to prove the hazards is not yet perfected but by the time that we all find out, scientifically, that Windmills are hazardous to humans it will be too late and millions of windmills will already have been installed and working.

Climate has been ever-changing. Just not people are being led to believe that we are in control of that change. This past winter is proof that mother nature does what she wants.

Our little dinky cars and all that bad carbon dioxide has no bearing on what actually happens.

We had a really cold summer a few years back as well. I'm sure the people who support global warming, err "climate change" would have an excuse for that. Don't they have an answer for everything?

According to NASA the average temperature of the earth did rise this year even though this was a cold winter in this tiny corner of the earth. The southern hemisphere's temperature was on average 2 degrees higher. The trend on the average temperature scale is edging higher every year. This is combined with cyclical temperature variances. However it is not the temperature rising but the smut and dirt that the carbon industry emits that is detrimental to all living things. Anyone ever been to the industrial wasteland of China? Hell the white snow of Fort McMurray isn't white. It is black. I clean my washing line every week and the dirt that comes off is really sickening.

Hello Wisen-one

Yes methane(s) being a fossil fuel in origin will release sequestered carbon and thus not be ideal.

We have both lived and will both die in a world controlled by the hydrocarbon business. If I could change things I would. I lack knowledge of how to go about this paradigm shift.

But seeing a money making opportunity and allowing it to go by will not change the fact that hydrocarbons are at the root of many evils in today's world.

I am a big solar proponent and most other non fossil fuel energy sources.
My beef with windmills, power dams or garbage dump ideas is having the taxpayer foot the bill. Should private money wish to invest and maintain those assets then great... make lots of money.

Methane hydrates will need to be used because the exit from hydrocarbons will be another 200 to ??? hundred more years.

But Wise-one it has been interesting discussing this with you. If only we could have been inside on Bre-X.. Darn.

Oldie Goldie...

Some people cannot be reasoned with, if they are not impacted, themselves by it, then it's a NIMBY thing. I wonder however if they looked out of their windows and saw a load of sails going round and then blinking red lights at night if that would make a difference. However to debate the effects on humans, I will agree it does not affect everyone, but some it does and just because there are no medical records proves nothing. Some people are affected by strobe lights, and can go into convulsions, just stand down sunlight from one, depending the on the RPM. Stand down wind and listen to the Harmonics from the sails, again not everybody is affected but some are, and then there is the property value to be taken into consideration. From what I understand the Mile Hill escarpment will be blighted by these things, for what a few megawatts of power. Yes, they have lots of these things in Europe, and China has I believe the largest windfarm in the world, but I wonder why they and the Europeans going back to coal, I understand they Chinese bring more coal fired stations on line every month than we have closed. A new coal fired station is being built next the the largest power station in the UK, which is going to wood pellets (from Wawa). They (coal, nuclear, and Hydro), can be turned down or up as need required, try asking the sun to shine and the wind to blow, the only green about them is the money going into the pockets of the parties friends!!!And do not start me on the carbon footprint of these things, I have worked in the steel industry and the copper mining industry, it ain't that clean or green!!!

"Opponents have to prove beyond any doubt that Windmills are a hazard to humans but the Committees don't have to prove that they aren't."

this isn't true. there's NOTHING showing wind farms cause harm. unless a windmill is 100ft from your house, there is no health risk at all

it's a nocebo, it's like the parents who got wi-fi banned at their schools because they thought it was making their kids sick

people are idiots, and government shouldn't have to listen to those idiots
AlwaysAWinner 5/18/2014 11:42:58 AM Report

I don't get it. ernegy by wind and the sun, and people have problems with it

it goes to show how people love to pick a side and hammer it and refute anything that disproves their side

coal is awful, oil is awful, nuclear is iffy

the future is solar and wind. solar efficiency is around 15%, can you imagine when we double that? for every two solar panels, we'd need one.

then what if we double that? now we're at 60%, one panel for every four.

this is only going to get better as technology advances, and wind is no exception.

even if it's cloudy, solar panels still work (because there IS light, just not as much)

people whining about wind farms and solar panels hurting the environment are just plain wrong and drop dead stupid. you're going to look at oil and coal and tell me solar and wind hurts the environment?

people whining about wind farms and solar panels hurting the wild life are just plain wrong and drop dead stupid. oil pollution kills more in a year than wind farms could in their life time

people whining about wind farms and solar panels causing human harm are drop dead stupid. unless a wind mill is in your back yard (literally) there no health concerns. the only exception is if they're very close (100ft) and you see the shadow of the blades and hear it. when they're in a field somewhere, they don't affect you any more than a cell phone tower

the truth is, I've seen the papers and pdfs that "show examples of health concerns" and it proves absolutely nothing. take a science stand point, you had to have a hypothesis, you did your work to prove your point, and you had a conclusion based on your results.

there are no results of human health concerns from wind farms. when a wind farm goes up and people start complaining their sick, that's not evidence of the wind farms causing human harm

that's evidence of a nocebo effect. http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/alternative_energy/2013/03/wind_turbine_syndrome_debunking_a_disease_that_may_be_a_nocebo_effect.html

let me put it this way, THERE'S NO EVIDENCE OF WIND FARMS CAUSING HUMAN HARM

can't you people understand that your outrage and hatred of the wind farms is paid for by the oil companies? they put out the BS article in the media that give you the opinion that the wind farms are horrible

I'll give you an example, you know how there's the known fact that we pay the US to take our power? wow, catching headline eh? makes you hate the wind farms

what they didn't tell you was the truth, that we only pay to give the power away when we are IN A SURPLUS, WHICH HAPPENS LESS THAN 10% OF THE TIME.

IN ADDITION, IT COSTS MORE FOR A POWER PLANT TO GET RID OF THE SURPLUS ENERGY, SO WE PAY TO GIVE IT AWAY, WHICH IS CHEAPER THAN US GETTING RID OF THE SURPLUS OURSELVES

I found this out by listening to these anti-windfarm idiots and doing my own research. well had they of done it themselves, they would of found out that there's a VALID, GOOD REASON for us paying the US to take the energy. it's how energy plants operate.

you people can be bought out so easily by the media. it's pretty sad and pathetic, barely anyone looks for real evidence online, they only look for their niche BS sites that just prove their insane opinions

the future is wind and solar. nuclear is iffy, I won't touch that. hydro is fine.

they all "damage" the environment in some way, the idiots don't see the difference between fracking and putting up wind farms though.
