Bobby Nerves 4/26/2014 5:55:29 AM Report

Good morning all.

@debo:

You're making yourself an echo of a drug consumer, alcoholic TO mayor as is Mr. Rob Ford.

The Police made an investigation and none of the verifications observed seems to constitute a transgression to a Canadian Law, but in the public view, a mature male stepping out of his car and urinating against a private fence in the view of the public, may be fine from your point of view, but a Mayor of a town should be held to higher standards.

The Police is there To Serve and Protect, and observation is part of their job, but of course some sector of society don't like to be closely observed and much less being stopped while driving a car loaded with 20 or 30 thousand dollars worth of cannabis sativa, pills and drug paraphernalia to be sold around the schools to your own kids or grand kids.

Of course that Police Force will be attacked for the Force of Evil, and that's what the Ford Nation is doing and you're echoing, attacking Chief Blair because he removed Mr. Ford and Ford Nation mask.

A constable suspended with paid duty is subject of constant evaluations within the Force and the Force has no reason to make public when, how and why one of it's suspended members is reincorporated to a administrative duty. It will -at the most- made public within the Force in their daily Information Bulletin and probably to the Police Board, as it was most likely the case.

Rest assured, after the next elections, the Ford brothers will have enough time to supervise the TO-Calgari corridor.

Alberta is a place with not many immigrants from Somalia, but it's there where the highest young Somali violent dead rate in Canada is registered, and all gang and drug trafficking related... the dead young people, originally from Etobicoke and West GTA surroundings.

Don't be surprised if you find any connection.

You raise a good point. Unfortunately, the lack of the immigration service that your friend needs is just the tip of the iceberg.

Voters may want to ask DaHaze about that when he's campaigning for re-election
Voters may also want to ask how many other decent paying government jobs were transferred from SSM to other cities. I have no problem with cancelling a position if the work is no longer needed but moving of positions from SSM to other communities means our local M.P. is not doing his job.

Speaking of voting, I was happy to note that Harpo had to back down with his plans to implement his unneeded changes to voter identification.I especially enjoyed watching that arrogant little twit Pierre Poilievre having to eat crow.

Am I the only one who thinks HARPER will decide NOT to run in the next election? HE has shown that he must control everything connected to him and his job .Therefore...since he cannot control the voters going to the polls...the only way for him to leave politics "gracefully ??" is not to run. The idea of being defeated is not one he can accept and he is smart enough to see defeat coming.

Yes, I think so as well.
Harper will cite 'a need to be with family' or some other lame platitude.

I have to agree that I believe Mr. Harper will not run in the next election. Having said that I still would not count out the Conservatives to form the next government.

IMHO much of the dissatisfaction is with Mr. Harper himself as a leader. His controlling actions has not only rankled his caucus but has made him a lightning rod.

It has become very difficult for him to deflect much of the criticism of his government and himself.

I came across this article and it is quite interesting... and I have to believe that "where there's smoke, there's fire" so to speak.

In case this is taken as a "Harper Bash", believe me it isn't. I am neither C, L or N. My decision on how I vote is made during the campaign(s).

Good morning all, interesting things afoot. I just received a letter from the Canadian taxpayer's Assoc. Harper has taken the only small face saving step he could saying "Senate reform is not possible" but as Fly suggested the other day, many others ,even some of Harper's troops are now saying that we need a plebiscite on this matter because something needs to be done. I think Harper planned to stack the Senate and wishes to carry on with it. Don't be surprised if this Elections act is passed and we have a snap Federal Election called. Something is going on as it's not like Harper to throw the towel in over a bit of public opposition. Have a great day all.

debo 4/26/2014 12:03:47 PM Report

Bobby N, I'm not really sure where your first post is coming from or actually going to for that matter.

I was trying to make the point that police forces, as servants of the public, have a responsibility to be open and transparent with the people they are in the employ of. In the instance I was addressing Chief Blair seems to be speaking out of both sides of his mouth .... while publicly expressing sympathy for the Yatim family it appears he VERY quietly has the suspended officer returned to modified duty .... before the preliminary investigation is complete. Why not just let that be public information at the time he took that action?

To me the answer is ... Politics, pure and simple.
(I will expand on that point if needed).

As to your drawing in the "ford nation" aspect to the conversation ... it is a red herring in this case. I think Ford and his supporters want to get rid of Blair for a perceived lack of loyalty (read an unwillingness to cover Ford's ample a$$). These two groups, Ford loyalists and members of the public concerned with Blair's handling(or mishandling) of some highly controversial police actions are not acting in unison.

And, for his part Blair is distancing himself from Ford and indeed now going after him because he sees the political advantage in it as a way of distracting the public from the shortcomings of his own administration.
It's akin to watching two scorpions circling each other in a battle for survival.
Bobby Nerves 4/26/2014 12:27:54 PM Report

debo, there is not more confused person than the one refusing to understand.

The cons in TO are leaking their wounds and Mr. Ford will face the music, big time.

ANYONE HEAT WITH GAS???.. Good, now i have your attention ,lol.. Tip.. Hang onto your previous Gas bills. I just received my Gas bill yesterday and thought i was going to have a heart attack! We are on equal billing and my monthly bills were always 103,00, this new bill was 197.00... I knew gas was going up so thought well, ok.. BUT then i looked at the total usage bill from this month and it read that the cost for this month was ONE THOUSAND +.. Last months usage cost was 212.00 ! I called the Gas Co. and sure enough the guy read the meter wrong!,, It will be adjusted! Now my bill will be about 140.00 per month... If i hadn"t kept the old bills this may have slid by me. All i have that uses gas is the water heater and an old small gas heater downstairs that has always been kept at it"s lowest. Soon as we bought this place two yrs. ago we installed a woodstove, but the previous owner ( an older Gent ) always had the gas turned up high to save on the electric heat. I have a feeling that the Gas Co. hasn"t even been by to check the meters at all since we moved here and we are being charged what he used to use. Can i prove it? No... But soon as this term is up we are no longer going to be on the equal billing ! Even the 140.00 seems way too high for what we have. I usually don"t call anyone to complain about things but who can i call to put in my complaint about the rising cost of Gas ,, as if it would make a difference. We live in Bruce Mines so who would i call?.. Anyone??... They talk about keeping Seniors in their homes as long as they can, then make it impossible to do so!!!

The oil companies want to use their refineries, already in existence, in the gulf. They are operating at less than their capacity, apparently.

PET had a long term energy policy, but Alberta, the oil companies and the rest of the greedy capitalists, had a fit and kyboshed the plan. If it were allowed to mature, the plan and the refineries would already be on-line and Canadians would be reaping the benefit of controlling their own resources and pretty much energy independent, as major shareholders, instead of the multi-national oil companies whose only outcome is for their shareholders. Sell the oil even to Canadians at market price. Environment and society at large, be damned.

The KeystoneXL pipeline is to move the oil to the refineries in the Gulf and ship to China as the final destination.

Bobby N, your posts don't seem to have any relevance to the issue I was discussing.

Chief Blair's administration has come under close scrutiny for his handling of concerns arising out of the G20, stop and identify/racial profiling and now the Yatim shooting. I don't think Blair was all that interested one way or the other about investigating Ford's legal transgressions. However, once "Ford Nation" began to attack Blair for releasing information that was damaging to Ford, Blair seemed very quick to release more and more information that had been gathered during the "traveller" investigation.

I think Blair is all about political survival. The more Ford is in the headlines, the less Blair will draw attention. Blair's handling to date of the Yatim case would seem to bear that out. Publicly profess sympathy for the family, but quietly slide the person being investigated back on the job. That way you don't offend your base support (rank and file) officers.

The people calling for more accountability for Blair and his leadership over G20, racial profiling by the TPS and questioning the Sammy
Yatim shooting are not people who would be supporting the cons nor care if they were licking their wounds. They have been questioning Blair's
actions and suitability for legitimate reasons other than anything on the Ford agenda.
theprotector 4/26/2014 6:54:47 PM Report

Blair's actions have nothing to do with the shooting. He would be informed of the action taken of the officer but that is about it. Given the police association and union involvement there is not much wiggle room for the administration and they are proceeding with SOPs by the book.

Awkward Teeps, awkward .. "name calling the last refuge of a scoundrel". But in your case entirely predictable.
B.B. your knowledge of the oil and refining business is woefully ignorant as usual.
Gulf coast refineries are designed to use the heavy feed stock that traditionally comes from Venezuela. Much of the gasoline is then delivered to Citgo gas stations throughout the U.S., (also owned by the Venezuelan government.)
In addition all gasoline sold east of the Manitoba border in Canada, is refined from OPEC crude. Delivered by tankers to the east coast. That Canada wants to replace Venezuelan and OPEC oil with our own, should bring joy to even low information voters, that babble on here.
Current U.S. law prohibits crude oil or refined oil products to be sold off shore .. (Canada was exempted in Nafta).
Harper mentioned to Obama that going ahead with the XL was a no brainer. The shoe apparently fits.

Canada provide 200 million barrels a year.
Saudi Arabia 160 million barrels a year.
Mexico is third and Venezuela supply a mere 10% of the overall total oil consumed in USA.

Honestly, I hope it's only a coincidence.

Pro, the TO Star, TO Sun.and a couple of Toronto radio stations are all reporting the same thing. Even the police officer's lawyer(Brauti) was quoted as saying it was Blair's decision.

You can parse words ... decision/order ... but it was done on Blair's authority .

As for why he would do this ... several possible reasons come to mind ... and they may be even be viewed as cumulative.

- Blair was probably under heavy pressure from the Toronto Police Association .... and several other police associations as they would want to show support for the officer.

- It has better optics... rather than just having a suspended officer just sitting around collecting a good salary he is now earning it.

- More optics ... it starts the rehabilitation process of the public's view of the officer,,, he is not some suspected felon sitting at home because even the Police Force doesn't trust him... he's doing valuable service during this time of personal travail.

-It reassures the "cop on the beat" that Blair is in their corner/has their back(sound familiar?)

To me the bottom line is ... if it's all good and above board why the hush hush?

Obama's reluctance to approve XL means he has "no brain" ... carry on.

"More optics ... it starts the rehabilitation process of the public's view of the officer,,, he is not some suspected felon sitting at home because even the Police Force doesn't trust him... he's doing valuable service during this time of personal travail.'

It's all about "optics". We live in a world of illusion after all.

The officer in question fired nine shots at Yakim, an 18 year old kid armed with a knife in an empty bus!
Not only should the police officer lose his job, he should be charged and prosecuted for incompetence! Never mind collecting his pay pushing papers.

Fear of crime is a welcome distraction from the real issues facing society.
The whole incident is a damn, yet predictable shame.
Chief Blair is your garden variety douchebag bureaucrat enjoying his excessive salary and unquestioned authority. He is no different than his nemesis, Mayor Ford . The citizens of Toronto are but pawns in these inane shenanigans. But they deserve what they wished for. Pompous assholes.
statusquo 4/26/2014 10:53:25 PM Report

wisen,

You're woefully out of your depth.

A guy that pays attention to price fluctuations for Walmart rotisserie chicken, vacationing in Florida(of all places) and attending the veteran's celebrations at the Essar center should never be taken seriously, particularly when commenting on the motives of the president of the United States of America.

You're smart enough to realize that you're an idiot.

You're welcome.

Enbridge's reversal of #9b will bring Western Canada select to refineries in Sarnia and Montreal. As will Transcanada's East line once built.
Historically all oil produced in Canada goes South.
Suncor is trading at 52 week high, don't say I didn't tell you.

Stats
One more to add to the pile of "reasons/optics" for putting the officer back in a job ...
- It will look better to a jury(if it gets that far) that he is doing community work.

I totally agree with your take on Blair ... He is a political animal not someone at all invested in serving/protecting the rights of the average Torontonian.
statusquo 4/26/2014 11:53:55 PM Report

Now then....on something completely different..

Back when the re election of Obama would cause the downfall of America...according to FOX ...now we see rising employment, the GDP is increasing, and the U.S is now a rising star in manufacturing. The U.S is doing really well compared to the rest of the world and even Canada.
The U.S dollar is still the benchmark and talk of replacing it with the EURO has subsided.
America has finally a healthcare system that is accessible and affordable to most of it's citizens . Osama Bin Laden is dead and remnants of Al Qaeda are being droned into oblivion!
The boots are back home and no new war has been started.
Barak Obama is possibly the best President the U.S of A ever had!
In an economic meltdown not seen since the great depression and with political turmoil around the world, with the Republicans throwing every wrench they could think of into his plans, this black, community organizer guy did a great job!

On the flip side...his predecessor (doubleya) started an unnecessary war, quadrupled the national dept and destabilized the middle east and did not finish the story on "My Pet Goat".

Of course it will look good.
again..."optics".

The fact remains that an incompetent, trigger happy individual in a uniform shot a kid 9 times!

Or, what about the RCMP douchebags at the Vancouver airport, that tazered a guy with a stapler to death .
I had the "privilege" (note the quotation marks) to interact with law enforcement students at Seneca College..most of them (not all) are assholes!

Chumming would entail I am fishing for sharks. The variety of fish I can catch in here are of the bottom feeder variety.....
At least "rw" has the decency to "google" his retorts...the rest just babble on incoherently with retroactive abortion monosyllabic grunts.
The rest just LOL's a lot and lament the prohibition of side arms and inbreeding.
