Good morning everyone, time to rise and shine. I hope everyone didn't stretch their tummies too badly with dinner yesterday, then again it's easy to do with these holiday meals. I would recommend reading "Feds pull embarrassing questions from poll". I don't recommend it for Tories as I don't want to be accused of personal insults. Have a great day all.

Good morning.
Wasn't yesterday pleasant on here? Our own Easter miracle.Of course there was the inevitable negativity and some questionable interpretation of the bible but overall we all showed that it is possible to exercise restraint and civility.

Good Morning and it is Easter Monday so i hope that " liquid gold" will still flow. I hope no one is suffering from a chocolate hangover. Grump..Close your eyes for a minute please ,lol... I thought it was nice of Mr. Harper to extend a Happy Easter to everyone yesterday. Ok Grump, you can open them now. Thank you :) I do wonder why they ( who ever " they" are ) try and take Christ out of Christmas but have left Easter alone. Is nice to see but we should be crossing our fingers on that one...Probably lots of leftovers from yesterday, so enjoy and have a great day....

Great "scholarly" information on Jesus you got there from
...but calling Jesus a Muslim is a clear denial of his divinity.

"theprotector 4/20/2014 8:31:32 PM"

Interesting concept but to say it's a bit of a stretch would be a monumental understatement.

Similarity of words and phrases, dates of equinoxes etc. may in fact be proving my point that Islam was plagiarized from the Bible and the Bible/or Tora in turn was plagiarized and pieced together from ancient Egyptian Sun-worship mythology.

All those books (religions/cults) are in response to a lack of a "constitution by the people" if you will. Everything came from above and so the "ruling" classes had to invent something that appeared to be even above them to use it as a political tool to exert control over the people.

Also, it would be helpful if you could quote the sources you got that from.
I "googled" some myself and I have to say, they all seem a bit loopy .

Also, don't forget that by elevating one religion over another you are in fact dismissing any other religion as there can only be one Chief Executive Officer in the sky.

And so I dismiss them all.

Jimssm 4/21/2014 8:07:52 AM Report

I would contend that 'they' haven't left Easter alone.

Easter Bunny = Santa Claus

There's not much religious context left once the chocolate Easter eggs have had their way.

'They' are the commercial interests that have bastardized both holidays for profit.
theprotector 4/21/2014 8:08:35 AM Report

neither one has anything to do with christ, hasnt for the majority for many many years, which is a good thing in my books. I guess all those years of trying to marry up this religion with the others that have celbrations around the same time has lead to an increasing discredit of the same.
Its tough to follow something that changes to suit the time, not just the holidays but intripriation as well. Whatever the flavor of the days is, lets change things to be able to cast the biggest net and make the most money, as with all businesses the churches are no different its about money, under the guise of "helping others". Never the less, thank-you dear lord for the food and chocolate and the gifts, bribery works wonders!

Bad day for bread, but it's done. Would you be able to gimme a ride?

redranger if you can make it, good time.

I don't have much knowledge about english, but intripiation sounds to me more like a latin ward, there is a ward in spanish, tripa, equivalent of guts.
Spanglish is a language in development and perhaps intripiation refers to the treatment the prison b1tch is subject to.

I know, you have to draw a long bow, but hey, why not.

It got to be related to the prison b1tch, because those in the trade seem to be experts in the meaning.

Sorry if I couldn't satisfy your curiosity.

I agree with you that the commercial side of the Religious Holidays have taken precedence. This unfortunately is the nature of the consumer society we live in. It will take a very disasterous event to bring this back to the real meaning of the word "holy-day". What do you mean when you say people need to have their beliefs (I assume you mean religious as opposed to scientific or others) legitimized by others?
highway1 4/21/2014 1:50:33 PM Report

All religions are the same in the sense that they all teach that people are good enough, that they just need to live good lives (good by each religions standards) and they will get to Heaven.
Except Christianity.
Christianity teaches that you are not good enough in your own self, and that you need a Savior and start life brand new, all over again, in relationship with the Creator.
notpc 4/21/2014 2:52:15 PM Report

You hit the nail on the head in distinguishing between Christianity and all other belief systems. It's the one belief that doesn't appeal to our sense of pride, ie that we are actually good enough to live up to God's absolute standards. Christianity makes it quite clear that we must discard that fallacy.
irishfey 4/21/2014 3:41:21 PM Report

It sure is nice to see the topic of Religion discussed in an adult and mature manner the way it should be... The definition of Zealots is.. a fanatic religious extremist. I think that Islam has taken over that role now and has let Christianity of today off the hook. Were there Zealots in old Bible days? yes, and also one large Christian group that many years back would have fell into that description, but they have changed.( no offence intended) It is just my opinion that smaller groups of Christians of today want peace and not war. There is always one bad apple like that Baptist creep that died not that long ago.....

Empty buildings deteriorating and need to be fixed up or removed; road to the end of the pier needs to have what little pavement there is left, removed, and make it a gravel road that is maintained on a regular basis. What a shame and poor reflection this is upon our city.

I am amazed that you have put that together and expressed it point blank.

Pierre Trudeau was the last true leader who fought for Canada and not the US. Brian Mulroney was a US/British puppet and sellout. We did have Jean Chretian who refused to jump into Iraq--genius.

There is a fabulous book. "Tragedy and Hope" by Carroll Quigley. In this book it shows the history of how democracy in North America was purchased many moons ago by those of wealth.

Examples like the Canadian oil patch and who owns it, is scary revelation and a foreboding 'Omen' to the freedom that most Canadians think they/we have.

Today Canada is a puppy with it's belly exposed.
An example is the value of our dollar compared to the default world currency--the US greenback. Our economy has the power of huge resources, skilled workforce, stable banks and until 6 months ago a powerful dollar. Now the dollar is 8-10 cents less than the greenback? Bull-roar.

Its funny how every religion always has the true god (s)! Lets look at the orginal single god religions. Noe the Christians eliminated the one and that left Christian and the orginal form of islam (sorry name escapes me at the moment). And of course for century's the Christians have been trying to kill those who dont beleive and vis versa. Even in modern day there are more fanatical Christian groups then any other religion in the world.
Lets face it if you need to beleive in this to get yourself through the day since you lack the moral compass on your own so be it. Its a choice but dont become fanatical about it and say as a fact that you are right and everyone else is wrong. My personal opinion is that religion is a private matter as a matter of fact your own bible says that practicing your religion outside the home is punishable by death.

Right wing, you obviously do not understand Christianity.
Being born again means you need a Savior, you cannot pay the price on your own merit, no matter how highly you think of yourself.
Christianity certainly teaches you are not good enough in your own self, and that you are incapable of knowing the Creator unless you are Born Again.
It's not a matter of what you know, it's who you know. It's not a matter about knowing about someone, it's about knowing them.
Religion and theology will teach you about God, but religion and theology will never bring you to a relationship with God.
This can only happen on a personal level, at a moment of humbling and surrender.

Worst American president...Tricky Dicky Nixon..Hands down
statusquo 4/21/2014 9:53:43 PM Report

Ronald Reagan is mostly responsible for the financial disaster the U.S finds itself in. Under Reagan's reign spending went out of control and deregulation of financial institutions created a fertile ground for a ponzi scheme that finally came home to roost in 2008.
Even Bush senior called the Reagan economic policies "Voodoo-economics".
So, as far as economic harm is concerned, Reagan is by far the worst president the U.S had to endure. The crown for the most stupid still rests on Bush Junior's head.
Nixon was not a bad president.
He established the EPA, he pushed hard for desegregation in schools, fought for gender equality in the workplace , started the nuclear weapon's dismantling with the Soviet Union, re established relations with China and essentially ended the War in Vietnam.
Nixon is certainly not the worst president the U.S ever had.
Obama on the other hand is also not a bad President.
The U.S economy is faring far better now than many countries affected by the economic meltdown of 2008.
Obama inherited a mess that has been in the making and perpetuated for decades.
He really hasn't done a bad job at all.
A POTUS's record will be measured long after he is gone.

You just said you cannot look into the future, so you anymore than anyone else can say what Trudeau jr will do if he is elected to the PM's job. I, and you, can only go by what he has done up to this point, which is what exactly. He has been an MP for a couple of years, he has little experience of foreign affairs, but neither does Baird either, he has little experience of finance, but neither does the new guy for Harper. He has used some cuss words in the House, and he has distanced himself from the Senators, but they haven't distanced themselves from him. I cannot mention his previous occupation as that will upset a lot of posters, but as the old saying goes that those that can do and those that cannot do something else. I would perhaps have more respect had he had a little more experience before becoming the leader of the third party. Does all that mean he would make a bad PM, I honestly do not know, anymore than I know if Harper will change his tune, which I doubt. Does being a conservative mean I have to agree with everything the party does, no, but that does not mean I disapprove of everything the others stand for either...

I am of the old adage don't repeat mistakes and as an investor I take my chances, what do we have to lose? Jobs? Less taxes? Better funding of Healthcare or lack of with Harper trying to dismantle the Canadian Healthcare Pact. I rather take a road less travelled and come what may. What can we lose? A change is good. Canadians deserve to have a transparent government that is there to govern not to change Canada to their idealic vision and version and a government that doesn't favour one region over another.
