Good morning everyone, time to rise and shine. Nasty weather on the way in but next to the Prairies and the East Coast we came away not so bad this winter. I guess the old sayings are still valid. " One doesn't have to look hard or far, to find others worse off than they are". We have a number of good examples on here. Poor Wisen forced to drink cheap rum and eat rot gut chicken. Poor Bounder forced to keep his rice burner running on Mopar parts. Poor rw so over worked and stressed out he can't make lunch with friends. I'm sure there are many more that I missed but duty calls. Have a great day all.

Thanks "Red"---I was thinking of Wisen , down in Florida, with all the nice weather and all.I can picture him sitten on the dock of the bay, watching the Pelicans roll by.
One of the exercises commonly rolled out at corporate meetings goes like this----the participants all sit in a circle.A message, or statement is whispered into the ear of the first person, who then whispers it to the next and so on down the line.Invariably,by the time it reaches the last person, it is greatly changed from the original.
When I was trying to think of somrthing to do with Floria, that poem was all I could come up with.Iknew it didn't sound complete. Thanks for filling me in.

Anyways going back to the First World War... communications were in the infancy so the way they sent messages was by runners and the story goes like this... The general says to his runner take this message to HQ. "please send reinforcements, the general is going to advance", this is passed through quite a few runners and at HQ the last runners gasps out " please send three and fourpence the generals going to a dance"... Of course the communications have improved a bit since then, hopefully!!!

“The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit,
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.”
The foregoing verse is indeed from the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam (1048-1131), an internationally renowned Persian poet and contributor to the development of mathematics, astronomy and philosophy who inspired later generations.

The problem was that you quoted 2 poems. The first was Abu Ben Adam by Leigh Hunt and then the line from the Rubaiyat which I mistook for Coleridge instead of Omar Khaiyam . Khaiyam is well noted by mathematicians for Omar's tent which is also later called Pascal's Triangle.
