Morning Folks.. Sun? Snow? Rain ? Who knows,lol but we are alive and that"s all that counts. Of last nights posts on Phelps.. he did more than " spit venom".. He hurt folks! He showed up at funerals and told the family that the person ( Vets and Gays ) were going to go to hell !. He turned what was to be a sacred gathering into a hateful sideshow and the deceaseds family has to live with that memory in mind!.. Yes, the Taliban are evil folk, killing people in the name of their God..... What bothers me is that some folk.. ( on here too )soon as they hear the name, Christian,, try and lump all Christians into one package without finding out first what the folk believe in and what their views and beleifs are. Didn"t Redranger just post that folks like me were a dangerous sort?. He/she jumped the gun and put me in that package without even bothering to find out who i am and what me views were, now,, those type of folks are the dangerous ones!.... One other thing that folks need to do on this site is " read"! Bounders post of someone being an " idiot" was meant for Status, and i"m sure that he could defend himself, but , oh no, someone had to " lookaround" and put their two cents in where it was really none of their business what one poster says to another. I think that most of you in here are nice folks and the jabs to each other are most in fun,, lets keep it that way... remember, if one don"t like what goes on in here, they can exit any time. Said my say, so now i"m off.... Hope you all have a great day....

Good Morning everyone, well first I'm going to make myself a breakfast that would easily feed a pack of wolves.
Then ho-hum do the driveway with my 4-wheeler and then head on down to the Spring Expo. Every year I say Na! Not going same ole thing every year. But at the Greyhounds game last night I got rooked into going.
Well maybe that's because I'm nosey!

Maybe it's time to bring back the organ player at the Greyhound games? Pretty quiet crowd last night,at times anyway.
Grump 3/22/2014 8:57:54 AM Report

Good morning all, more of the damn snow. I enjoyed seeing Harper get his head handed to him by the Supreme Court. Now before you neo-cons start crying foul, remember he picked 5 of the sitting Justices. He certainly screwed up selecting appointees that believe in the Canadian Constitution as it was written, not Steve's version. I'm sure he can take his B.S. Senate Reform and his Fair Elections Act and file them where the sun doesn't shine along with a lot of other unconstitutional crap he has tried slipping in. Harper has played fast and loose with everything he wanted but the end has come for him. He turned out to be a huge waste of money and a huge bundle of incompetence. The one thing I don't understand is why he didn't take more of a shine to Hayes, after all he was a huge waste also. Have a great day all.
flyhawk25 3/22/2014 10:11:04 AM Report

Good morning Grump.
Harper is finally getting it back even from his appointees.Apparently there are still people who believe in the rule of law and the constitution.
And Hayes is as sharp as a bag of belly button lint.Unless the local opposition parties run Kermit the Frog and Winnie the Pooh he should be history.
If you wait long enough things generally balance out.
And the Tories say Trudeau is 'unfit to lead?How would they know?
redranger 3/22/2014 10:28:03 AM Report

Trudeau would be unfit to lead the Tories
soowat 3/22/2014 10:38:22 AM Report

That was the point..good pick up Soowat

Grump..

I would pretty much agree with you, if you didn't keep flogging the dead horse.. Yeah, I am now fairly sure Stephen has screwed the pooch as far as a lot of conservatives are concerned, his latest excursion has put the lid on as far as I am concerned with his governments ideas. They just do not seem to grasp that it is up to countries to solve their problems before we intervene or help.

My biggest problem is that Bobby N and his snow dancers, for even I am running out of space to put that white stuff.
Grump 3/22/2014 11:40:13 AM Report

Mallet I think you had better take Bobby for lunch or give him the key to your beer fridge. I think even an expensive lunch would be cheaper than the beer fridge. Whatever works to get him to fire, lay off or retire those damn snow dancers. The good side for you is the water has to come up a long way to bother you but not so along the shore south of you. I normally don't mind winter but this one is staying with us way too long. Take care.
Bobby Nerves 3/22/2014 11:45:59 AM Report

That must be the reason why I'm having more snow here.

The cheque bounced.

Will have to get a draft.
Wisenheimer 3/22/2014 1:05:39 PM Report

The Constitution demands that 3 Supreme court appointees come from Quebec. In that the vacancy came about from the retirement of a Quebec justice, the new guy has also got to be Quebecois.
Shows how difficult it is to find a qualified choice that doesn't turn out to be another Jean Paul Peladreau or Pauline Marois.
Be nice if Harper detractors had just a couple of clues about anything.
BIG BROTHER 3/22/2014 1:23:11 PM Report

Not difficult at all. Just ignore the Constitution and do what feels right for your personal agenda.

Yes, I suppose I'm a Harper Hater. I prefer honesty. I prefer someone who talks about backing the troops, then actually does. I prefer someone who steps onto the world stage, advocating democracy, then actually modelling it. I prefer someone who actually consults his party members, listens to their concerns, then acts accordingly.

Let me ignore my conscience, spew crap to low information voters and life will be great. Otherwise, I'm a Harper Hater.

There is no known cure for someone who prefers ignorance over enlightenment.
BIG BROTHER 3/22/2014 1:24:37 PM Report

I've said it before...you can lead them to water....stick their head in it.....but, you can't make them drink it!!
flyhawk25 3/22/2014 1:27:04 PM Report

BB...amen.
Harper is over doing the Croatia mambo.Fair enough although I don't know what he hopes to achieve except a photo-op.Canada is not a player on that stage.
But if I were a FN person and Harper still hasn't gone north to see what's happening there I'd be upset.
steelworker 3/22/2014 1:39:06 PM Report

Croatia is not the Ukraine. If Harper went to the North he would probably want to slap a few "leaders" who mistreat their own people.
BIG BROTHER 3/22/2014 1:45:44 PM Report

Based on that logic, Harper should be in the Crimea, congratulating the now free Russians, who were being treated terribly by the Ukraine government. A 97% vote in favour of separation.
Wisenheimer 3/22/2014 1:50:49 PM Report

Big Bad Steve is in Kiev supporting Democracy as we speak. Gets accolades from the rest of the G7 for doing so, but only nonsense from the resident peanut gallery.
P.S. He also gets accolades for the best economy in the West, another accomplishment the rest of the world acknowledges, but the haters here can't quite spit out of their clenched jaws.
soowat 3/22/2014 2:12:10 PM Report

The Supreme Court kicked Harper's butt. Nothing Wisen,Steelworker or the rest of the Neo-Cons write can ruin this day. Even the weather can't ruin a great day for Canadian Democracy
Grump 3/22/2014 2:21:20 PM Report

Wisen for goodness sake grow a brain before you post any more of this drivel. It was his own appointees who shut him down. Everyone but you few morons are sick and tired of your hero Steve. That is not only the ones like myself who had him pegged as a thick headed incompetent from the beginning . His own people have him figured out now. I agree with B.B that you can lead someone to water and put his head in it but sometimes you have to put your foot on the back of his neck until he catches on. You obviously are one of them. Go for some shock therapy , maybe it will jump start your brain. I'm sure Status would put jumper cables on your two ears and give you a shot for free.
steelworker 3/22/2014 2:27:51 PM Report

It's pretty sad when a joint committee comprised of all the parties makes a choice for the Supreme Court and it gets shot down by the resident troughmeisters but it's all Stevie Vaders fault. As for "jumpstarting"; some people on this site would have to have the booster cables attached to their buttcheeks so the boost would reach their brain. Anyhoo I'm off to play outside in the fresh air.
undecided 3/22/2014 2:30:49 PM Report

Yes Wisen we have the best economy in the free world of which your hero really had nothing to do with it except being at the right place at the right time. Our success is mostly with our banking system of which he actually tried to dismantle . He wanted a deregulated one like the States and we all know how that turned out for them
steelworker 3/22/2014 2:42:48 PM Report

According to Obummer and his stoolies the American economy is booming. Just look at how many vacations he and his family can take. Doing good bro!!!!
flyhawk25 3/22/2014 2:51:03 PM Report

The Harper apologists should start preparing their list of excuses for when he loses:
-the NDP sand Liberals joined forces to defeat him;
-unemployed welfare bums were driven to the polls by socialists;
-unions forced members to vote against the PM;
-the MSM led by the CBC
and the Toronto Star plotted a coup;
-non Christian immigrants were paid to vote in blocks;
-gay voters formed a daisy chain to overthrow a real man;
-enviro-nazis ;
-feminists;
-solar powered granola eating gangs of thugs harassed voters;
-Trudeau's family bought it for him;
-Putin sent spies to steal ballots;
-Obama sent spies to steal ballots;
-native groups decided to vote against being treated as chattel;
-climate change.

Fly...are you suggesting we might just see a new party formed...ie.. THE NEW DEMOCRATIC LIBERAL PARTY ?? It does have a nice ring to it.

realitycheck 3/22/2014 3:48:05 PM Report

One thing about this site is that once you get onto it, it can make for a quick read. About six or seven words into a sentence from any of the regulars and you know it is the same old, same old, so you can move on. It is like a soap opera, where you can miss a month and hardly miss a thing.
In regard to the charges of Harper-hating, I would normally say hate is a strong word but I think some on here probably do feel that strongly about him.
Personally I think even if you do not respect the person you should at least respect the position.
It is fine to criticize him for individual decisions but it is not fine to personalize them, as is the case so much on here.
BIG BROTHER 3/22/2014 4:09:45 PM Report

RC,
It is his lack of respect for the position that creates the ill will towards him. Great example yesterday, of his contempt towards the democratic process. The Supreme Court rules, even steely would be able to read them and understand them, yet Harper plows ahead hoping his stoolies will let it pass anyway.

mallet 3/22/2014 4:22:09 PM Report

Big Brother..

For once I agree, the "legal experts" he consulted must have been in his pocket to start with, they of all people should know the rules. It is fine to want your own people on the bench, but you better damn well make sure they are acceptable and not try and change the constitution to fit them, that is rank stupidity. I normally support Harper, but not when he makes rash and silly moves, if one of the rules is you have to be a practicing member of the Quebec Bar, then why did he make sure he was, if he let his membership lapse why not renew it, he obviously does not know much about constitutional law or he would not have made that mistake..
BIG BROTHER 3/22/2014 4:27:53 PM Report

Mallet,
Apparently it was a civilian lawyer, using his own money , that challenged the appointment. Harper was fully aware of the rules of the process, but since he appointed 5 of the 8 sitting judges, he thought they would break the rules for him. He's not stupid enough to not have read the rules. They are quite simple to understand. Even Nadon should not have allowed his name to be considered. Thankfully that he was denied. He would definitely know the process, yet was willing to subvert the rules himself. Terrible judgement to begin with.
mallet 3/22/2014 4:50:33 PM Report

Big Brother...

I would prefer to think that he was ignorant of the rules, rather than he deliberately broke them. One can forgive ignorance, but not the deliberate breaking of rules, which is why we have courts, isn't it, and if you cannot have faith in them then of course you have anarchy. I do not hate Harper, I just think he has gone like his attack ads against Trudeau out of his depth, and has made the mistake that many make that his wish is his command.
Problem is I am not sure about young Trudeau, he has a lot of growing and learning to do and top government is not the place to do it, and as for Mulcair, well I like to level up not level down, which seems the NDP idea.
BIG BROTHER 3/22/2014 5:24:10 PM Report

Honest synopsis mallet. Well said, even though I do not hold Harper in high enough esteem to believe he was not aware of the rules. He has been pressing the rules since he was elected, especially since garnering a majority. His hot talk about the Senate, knowing full well that he can't reform anything to do with the senate without following those rules also.

As for the Libs, they have been a dreadful disappointment with their selections as leader. It has caused me to question if they sincerely wanted to win the elections against Harper, or if somewhere in their heart of hearts, they wanted him to make the nasty changes that would be unpopular with Canadians. It certainly seemed that way when free trade was passed and Mulroney took the brunt of it.

Hate is a strong word and I don't think I hate anyone, but the constant bashing with the name 'Harper Hater', well, that seems to be typical of the mentality of the right. Not all, but the vocal minority. I like to think for myself. Attack ads give ammunition to Trudeau. As young as he may seem, Harper's inexperience has been glaring also, and he should therefore cease and desist with those ads. They are backfiring.
statusquo 3/22/2014 6:00:06 PM Report

BB and mallet,

I don't hate Harper, I just don't like how is running the country. He is after all, spawned from the Reform party, a fundamentalist Christian organization with some fixed ideas. He is really not a "conservative" per se. More akin to our southern neighbours' Tea Party freaks.
His government shut down and muzzled scientists....he travels to Israel with an entourage primarily composed of Bible freaks and now he goes to the Ukraine to "show support". He is quite frankly an embarrassment.
And as far as the Ukraine is concerned, it was the Ukrainian government that started treating Russian citizens like dirt. They were playing with fire and now their mudroom is ablaze.
That part of the world is Russia's playground and we should stay away from it. Obama and the European Union included. This is not our problem. We have bigger domestic fish to fry. Get your own house in order before grandstanding on the international stage.
Afghanistan is another example, even though Harper inherited that mess, but he would have been eager to join the U.S in Iraq...Chretien had the balls to say no to Iraq involvement with Canadian troops....160 Canadian kids killed and now we have pulled out and it is the same godforsaken, patriarchal, back assward Islamic hell hole that it was before, has been in the past and will continue to be in perpetuity, ruled by warlords and the drug trade. If you want to accomplish anything then carped bomb the whole damn area for three consecutive months, that's what we did in 1943 to 1945. If you don't have the stomach for it then stay out of it altogether. Sometimes pussyfooting and half way "surgical" strikes don't cut it. If you go to war than make it apocalyptic! A cathartic cleansing if you will.
Oh but Quo you say...look how many girls are now going to school in Afghanistan....to that I say....bullshit!
That was never the aim and to pretend otherwise is delusional. If that were true then we would be in Sudan and the Congo...but we're not!
These are differences that will NEVER be resolved. Yes I sound pissed and I am, only because I have put my self in the shoes of the unfortunate parent, it's called empathy, who lost a child over there. Or the soldier's family that has to deal with their son's suicide due to PTSD.
We sacrifice our young ones at the drop of the hat, while "neutral" European countries like Switzerland and Sweden and the rest of those douchebag countries sit back, have a lifestyle higher than us and yet criticise us for being the U.S's side kick. Canada has done it's fair share and then some. It's time for somebody else to chip in.
Just my two cents.

Priding themselves to not having being invaded by Nazi Germany due to their superior defence system. To that I say....bullshit!. The only reason you chocolate eating yodellers were not taken by the Wehrmacht was due to the fact that you kept the Nazi gold safe for the eventual possibility of a capitulation of the Third Reich.
Secretly however, my holed chees friends, you supplied the Nazis with armaments , prolonging the war and have countless allied soldiers on your conscience.

Stats: the Swiss are essentially incredibly efficient pragmatists. They have the philosophy of Huxley's "Brave New World". They are the only country I know of that can have three different language zones and yet they get along with equanimity. They are "liberal" and have a convoluted political system that essentially eliminates partisan politics. They have pandered, equivocated and managed to keep themselves rich and isolated. They are level-headed and although the Swiss have a huge youth conscript army, with each carrying his own weapon, there is very little violence.
They have (like the Germans) set dates and holidays, when it is acceptable to exhibit wild behaviour.
I know the country well, like it and feel safe there.

In terms of taking a moral stand, they have done nothing. Before John Savage commits suicide in the Brave New World, he looks at the smug, safe, conditioned environment and says "But you have never suffered!"
