Good morning everyone, time to rise and shine. Mallet I used to shop at Marks and Spenser in London and found their clothing and shoe line seem to stand up forever. Always enjoyed their store. rw , if you think back or at all, most of the lakes around here and over through Quebec were going under due to acid rain. Caused by what you say? Burning carbon fuels of course. I know a fellow here who could fill you in on acid rain as he led the charge to reverse it and the lakes. I'm sure Ron Irwin would be happy to explain it to you if you asked nicely. LMAO Have a great day all.

Bobby Nerves 3/18/2014 7:27:56 AM Report

tp, yes there is, and unfortunately one of the big barriers for modern society is the lack of ability to find wisdom, inspiration and philosophy in the simplest things in life.

I was reading an explanation given for a 6 years old kid who lost his dog. His father try to explain why dogs live shorter than humans and for his own surprise, the kid answer something like: I know why. Humans live to learn how to be better person and all those things, right. Well as dogs know all of that, then their life is shorter.

There is wisdom there also.

Sadly, many people can't find it.

You do love to yap.
The P.H. of the ocean, what controls it and the effects of acid rain on inland lakes are two entirely different topics.
Does the burning of fossil fuels cause acid rain...yes indirectly...acid rain is mostly comprised of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides.
I don't need to meet Ron Irwin to understand acid rain.
I did the water supply system for the Turkey Lakes Water Shed Study.
Look it up, a co-op study on acid rain between the Federal and Provincial governments in our own back yard.
Got to know the scientists and during my time working there received a first class tutorial on the field collection equipment, the analysis labs, reversing a dead lake caused by acid rain, how wind currents play a role and much more.
Absolutely love it!
We had a common interest, water.

poluck, there is much more behind it. Hamilton is a liberal bastion and I have quite an idea who stomps there, and I know which houses the wannabe PM visits when campaigning in Hamilton.

Conservatives have a vested interest in taking as much as they can from the liberals and the ndp.

At the same time, paikin may be as good as they say he is, but age, experience and temple to handle the hot iron is something that no one can teach, they have to go through it.

Look at the same JT. He's trained to be elite and from time to time he says or does things that are head shakers, eyebrow risers.

I bet my salary Paikin will lose the ride as he could be a long term asset, but in the short term he is a high liability. He should keep it low profile an be prepared for JT re-election, but who am I to tell?

Don't say you were not warned....

Motorists convicted of driving while chatting or texting on a handheld cellphone face three demerit points and fines of up to $1,000 under Ontario legislation introduced Monday.

The province is already increasing the $155 distracted driving fine to $280 as of Tuesday.

The legislation, if passed however, would increase the minimum penalty to at least $300 and as much as $1,000.

The Keeping Ontario’s Roads Safe Act would also require drivers passing cyclists to keep a distance of at least one metre.

So do you believe this will be a deterrent.....
Javaman 3/18/2014 11:16:43 AM Report

Re Putin’s comment :
Shades of Munich, 1938. Chamberlain and Daladier agree to let Hitler take over the German-speaking Sudetenland. In doing so, Hitler takes over the rest of former Czechoslovakia (peopled by Slavs) as well. Hitler then proceeds to plan the invasion of Poland to be followed by the annexation of Western Poland and the former Free City of Danzig.
And as Archie Bunker would have said, “Commie, Nazi, same thing!” Putin may claim not to be a Commie by name, but he is certainly one at heart.

Yes rw I do believe it could be a deterrent to some ... however there are still a lot of people who still feel they " are not like others" ... "I can handle it" .. "everyone else is doing it"... etc. etc. etc. we hear this all the time with drinking drivers...

The way for it to be an effective tool IMHO is if there is a concentrated effort on the part of police forces to enforce the law proactively not reactively.

We have all seen the video of "the accident" that has been plastered all over the news media recently.

Question.. had it just been just a "near miss" would the police have made a great effort to track down the truck driver and charge him? I'm not so sure....

I have to agree with Javaman as well, the types of distracted drivers is scary to say the least .. and some of them are more visible that talking/texting ...

Just my opinion ... for what it's worth..

Any comments from RW concerning the environment should not be taken seriously, since he does not think that there is anything wrong with our big blue planet.
Any mention of global warming or changing weather patterns is a conspiracy theory by the leading scientists or are propagated by the liberal government, which his excuse for everything that is wrong with the world. Blame it all on the left thinking people of the world.
Take google away for a month and you would be able to hear a pin drop in this room, since he would not have a single thing to say.
If he would read the leading science journals and research papers that are being published, like I do, then you may have a small understanding what is happening around you.

Have a nice day
Bobby Nerves 3/18/2014 1:31:38 PM Report

BBB, myself, as a young person and in order to have access to the higher stratus of my career then, I had to attend full year courses, in one of those we had a young professor in constitutional law. He had two hours classes twice weekly and we always give up the break because he was young, very well educated and a leader in his field.

He made a picture of how the world moves with two poles, collectivism and capitalism. Both are united through exchange of technology, raw products and even armament (you can search the treaties between USA and USRS prior, along and after the war. Once you draw a line to unite both poles you have a circumference or a globe if you wish, inside that globe are all the other countries in the world, which are as one called satellites, some are attracted to the poles, other move for convenience and man because are dominated, conquer or extorted. Collectivism consist in a small group of people in charge of the administration and needs of the rest, bureaucrats, military, leaders with and without education, all installed there without merits nor values. Capitalism is a much complicated machinery but the owners are the technocrats and the plutocrats and in that system everyone has an equal chance to succeed, or at least it's free to succeed.

All countries within that sphere belong to one or other pole and only those with a strong identity and high values of nationality are the ones not be attracted or dominated. I think Canada is a good case and based in that scenario one can understand the damage of having Quebec as part of the federation. Quebec should be divided in pieces and it's leaders should follow mussolini and clareta petacci fate and add ciano also.

AH was the antithesis of communism, to the point he personally choose the red color under the pretension that red was the commies color and he expected a victory over communism with their own colors. It's very interesting to read the scripts of Nuremberg, because Goering I believe was the only true na7i from the first minute movement and I remember in certain passages there is a description of how the movement started and was structured.

Sorry I went this far. In the very end the systems are the same, but there is a difference how the communists take the power by assault, then you have all the theories of Mao, Trotsky, Lenin and so on. Obviously with the nowadays commies, Rosa Luxemburg must be twisting and jumping if something is left of her.

The IPCC peer reviewed studies have always been claimed to be written exclusively by accredited scientists.
They have once again been exposed.
Well over 30% of their peer reviewed papers to support their claims have been done by students or graduates that have previously never had any published papers.
Simply stated the peg was the right shape of the hole.
right wing 3/18/2014 2:09:15 PM Report

What are your thoughts, since the terms have been changed so driven/global warming/climate change/pause...and since we are not under the ocean waters now, as predicted, could we now call climate change, "claimet change" for all the failed claims?
Big Bad Bob 3/18/2014 2:16:59 PM Report

Two very simple points :
1. The vote which took place in Crimea was not what I would call an election; it was a plebiscite or a referendum. Willy nilly, Crimea was legally part of the Ukraine at the time, as Québec is legally part of Canada right now. There have already been two referendums in Canada concerning the status of Québec during which the question asked of voters was clear and intellectually honest- unlike that in Crimea where the question asked was along the lines “Do you want to be part of Russia or Nazi ? – and there were no foreign troops patrolling the Province. In short, unlike the case of Crimea, the two Québec referendums were perfectly legal and the whole business was internally Canadian.
2. My Archie Bunker reference was deliberately facetious. I nevertheless maintain my opinion that, when it comes to such values precious to me as individual freedom, rule of law, fair play and just plain honesty, Communists and Nazis are equally despicable and share the same basic non-values. Hitler and Stalin understood each other perfectly well in making their Non-Aggression pact of 1939: Hitler was preoccupied with other fish to fry for the time being and wanted Soviet raw material, while Stalin figured that he needed another year yet to be ready for an inevitable war with Germany.
right wing 3/18/2014 2:21:07 PM Report

90% of the time it's graduate students or people who have freshly graduated and have no idea of what actually happens. They're still wet behind the ears.

What's more is that a lot of these studies are financed by people who themselves believe in global warming, err climate change. Do you think they will continue to fund these "scientists" if they publish an article saying "Climate change not man made?"

Please, have a look at who funds these studies people. If you want to believe something then believe it, but don't say there is scientific evidence behind it when it is no more scientific than the posts made by some on here each day.

What I want is all the oil companies to come out with a big, extra extensive, peer reviewed by thousands contradictory article and then see what the left has to say.

Most scientists are claiming that we are at the tipping point. The earth can only take so much stress. Not just global warming either. I have to disagree with you on a couple of points there. First the elected president was overthrown in a coup, because he sought better ties to Russia than to the E U. The Russians offered to bail his country out to the tune of 15 billion dollars and reduce the price of gas. The E U offered easier trade and travel within the E U states, sorry, countries. Now the Crimea was an semi-autominous state in the Ukraine and had their own parliament. Surely if they want to hold a plebisite/referendum they are entitled to, same as the referendum in Quebec is only open to the province of Quebec, the way you are putting it the whole of the Ukraine should have a say, then why should the rest of Canada not have the same vote on Quebec?? One rule for us but another for the Ukraine???

What on God's green earth is Harper trying to accomplish flying to Kiev?
He is a non-entity on the global stage, except when he goes to Israel with a healthy supply of knee pads and mouth wash.

Man the guy is one major embarrassment !

The Ukrainian situation is something between the Russians, the Ukrainians and the people in the Crimea! ( the vast majority of which are Russian).
It should be regarded as a non-event as far as the west is concerned. Leave it alone as I don't care and it ain't going to make a difference on the Global scale.
Russia and it's satellite countries are a wasteland of lawlessness and social unrest. They will disintegrate sooner or later .
As far as the dark spectre of Nazism is concerned, the Ukrainians were more than enthusiastic in joining the Germans and the "Einsatztruppen in WW2:, a totally volunteer unit specifically implemented to roam the country side and execute "undesirables". So give me a break with this preoccupation of "due democratic process". We in the West never cared for it in the past and this time should be no different.
The West supported brutal dictatorships before...i.e Saddam Hussein, the Taliban, Reza Palevi of Iran and the Saudi Royal name a few....

fly, I'm prone to believe Flaherty is not made of the same conservative material that Harper is impregnated.

The first to be out of the boat was Towes under the pretext of going to the private sector and was designed judge last week in Manitoba.

Flaherty made it public about two years ago that the past budget was his last one and I believe he has a very good reason to go away with his health.

Harper managed to get rid of the Bank of Canada President and from there on the economy is a disaster and can't be worst because there is nothing else to spent.

Next could be McKay, but he's in a more comfortable seat now.

The one that may know something is Gcubed.

David, going back to your post about Paikin, there is a basic question in politics: How many votes do you bring to the party.

Zach(ariah) Paikin is of Jewish background and that could make a difference, but there are many Jewish politicians within the party carrying a wallet full of votes, far more than the ones Paikin can ever dream about.

The advantage with Paikin is that he can attract the young/undecided/hard to convince vote and he's charismatic, McGill educated and could make a difference. But Obama was also charismatic and well educated, and didn't do any difference on the plus side.

A not "deadly" expensive Hotel on Waikiki beach?

First of, my pompous, baptised idiot friend.... That is not a legitimate question and you know it! Surely you are capable of googling?

If I was as successful as you in investing in stocks I sure as hell wouldn't care about Hotel rates and I would definitely not eat rotisserie chicken from Walmart!
I honestly think.... and it becomes more and more apparent that you are posting from your mother's basement.
But if indeed you are financially secure it's because of sheer luck as your postings reveal a definite lack of cognitive sophistication.

Waikiki beach? Give me a break!

Go do some reading on the chemistry of fresh water and salt water.
Learn about how geology affects water, salt water versus fresh water, P.H., absorbed minerals, etc., also do some reading on why acid rain is no longer such a big problem.
Get back to me, we'll talk.

Here, someone with knowledge explains why the passenger in the fly MH370 couldn't connect with their cell phones, not that they didn't try:

Further, the phones will not work at 35K' and even if they connect, there is not a mast in the whole Indian Ocean.

That's the latest explanation.

Acid rain is not an issue anymore.
The Ozone layer, trust me I have been pestered about it and had to take courses and a new ticket allowing me to buy R12, (illegal now) an R 134 and today....well what do you know...the Ozone hole is closing up!
In the seventies they taught me about the new ice age coming!
Then eggs were bad for you! Two eggs per week they said or else you'll die a horrible death. Now eggs are actually good for you.
Then it was animal fats...butter was the number one killer! Margarine they said was the solution...some synthetic concocted alchemists brew that I refused and still avoid like the plague to put into my body! Just the other day they came out with a study that animal fats have no correlation with heart disease.....and that is good as I have been and will to my dying day suck the marrow out of osso buco.
( jokes).
Carbs and white bread are bad...or so they say and yet they praise the "Mediterranean Diet"...the Mediterranean diet is all about pasta, white bread with copious amounts of fresh vegetables and fish and all sorts of cured meats!
I honestly don't know what to believe anymore but I will be damned if I have to go through life eating multy grain gruel and tofu with the occasional rotisserie chicken.

rw I spent almost 10 years working in a Chem. lab and was so damn bored I started working Construction, liked it, liked the money and stayed at it. I know that there is of course a difference in salt and fresh water but pollutants are just that. Now some may be getting into the water naturally as you suggest but the bulk of this pollution is man made. I know that local Industries were dumping pollutants into our river and these run into our Oceans. There are a lot of Industries on a lot of rivers doing the same thing all over the world. Now I don't give a furry rat's butt for Gore's, Suzuki's or your take on things but I suspect their take on it is closer to the truth than yours. Never the less you have an opinion but I don't agree with it because there is just too much crap being dumped into our Oceans.

When it was first "announced" that there was man driven global warming I started to read everything I could find on it.
...supporting the theory.
The more I read the more skeptical I became.
Then out came Al Gore's movie and that cemented my belief that this was politically motivated.
Never forget that IPCC stands for Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
It is U.N. based and politically run.
These days I read studies that are published by the NIPCC, Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change.

This is from their web site but in short they are an international panel of nongovernment scientists and scholars who have come together to present a comprehensive, authoritative, and realistic assessment of the science and economics of global warming. Because it is not a government agency, and because its members are not predisposed to believe climate change is caused by human greenhouse gas emissions, NIPCC is able to offer an independent “second opinion” of the evidence reviewed – or not reviewed – by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on the issue of global warming.

As is said so want the motive for this man driven scam...just follow the money.

"scientific studies"...who pays for them and what do the try to gain from them?
You get my drift.

I hope you agree that we are exploiting the planet to a degree that will leave it barren for future generations.
On the energy front the only and most reasonable solution is nuclear power!
It is safe, clean and abundant in comparison with what we have now. And I can back that statement up!
Chernobyl and Fukushima notwithstanding.
Climate change?....meh!...not sure about that. Pollution and finite resources are definitely a thing we should be contemplating!

wt, I'll not hunt a turkey at this time for two reasons:

First, I like my turkey to be very well double breasted and gleaming plumage.

Second, we are at end of winter, turkeys have less meat than a speed bike, therefore they are alert and ready to fly, hard to catch.

I'll get back to you around November when you're fat and lazy and as soon as you realize the hunter is there, you're gonna fart in your intent to fly.

See you then. Good luck.

That's why elections are in November.
Because is much easier to catch a turkey!

I saw your story about the lunchroom smoker and the fat person. It reminded me of a time at work where it came up that I jog every day. One of those negative types actually asked me "what are you running away from?" I just took my finger and poked his fat gut and said, "I am running away from that". He shut up pretty quick.

I saw the stuff on here the other day about Bush,Cheney, Rumsfeld and the rest of that gang. The funniest part of that time was when that guy (I forget his name) who was the head minister of the biggest church in the US (40 million strong) got outed for doing meth with his shemale girlfriend. And during the election campaign the republicans were going to all lengths to point out that this guy was Bush's spiritual advisor on a weekly basis. Then again maybe the best was that republican candidate in the primaries who tried upping her credentials by telling us all that she had not masturbated in, in 7, yes seven years! Presidential material right there for sure. (: She would have had my vote.
