I can't believe the news channels are still giving Sarah Palin air time. Now she's doing Dr. Zeus poems about nukes and such. 'The only way to stop a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke.'

And to think she was a VP candidate. Just what the world would need now. Her and McCain, another whack job. How that country operates and maintains it's position in the world is a mystery.
Grump 3/9/2014 9:45:01 AM Report

Good morning everyone. rw and Wisen you must have been a sweet pair of children growing up, telling fibs, spreading B.S. and them trying to shift the blame somewhere else. Don't you think it's time you two grew up? I may not seem hip to a pair of self appointed know it all jerks such as you two but I work hard and live well (the best revenge).I treat my friends well and maroons not so well. My children are all educated, gainfully employed and none of them are goofing off or dealing dope. To my way of thinking that's not bad compared to your records. It's understandable that you are both Harper supporter as you act the same way, you think you are always right, attack anything that doesn't agree with you and lie and B.S. Have a great day all.
Grump 3/9/2014 9:48:04 AM Report

Gurpy I hate to break your bubble but dealing with lawyer is not much fun. I think you will find that even dealing with the friend of a friend isn't what you expect of it. None the less good luck.

According to an article in the Sault Daily Star (DST) Daylight Savings Time was started during the first world war to conserve coal.
In Canada Saskatchewan no longer uses it,so why can't we? Ontario? We don't burn coal no more....LOL.
I personally don't like it at least for a few days anyway, but love it in the fall when we fall back!!

Grump, is it impossible for you to pen a post without including terms like "moron" or "maroons" or "furry rat's ass" or "laughing uncontrollably".
If you wonder why you are constantly the butt of jokes, and derogatory prose. And only tepidly supported by allies of like political bent, you need not look any further than the above.
But on the other hand you do present an undeniably easy, fun target.

Want to know the true reason behind the Iraq war. Follow the money has never meant so much.

4,000 US soldiers dead, 100,000's of Iraqi soldiers and civilians, billions of dollars spent.....to what end!! It's a long (45 minutes) documentary, but hits home. Thank goodness Harper wasn't around then.

With events in the Ukraine compromising the flow of energy throughout Europe, look for 3 geo-political decisions to be made in the mid-term.
1. The E.U."s "Clean Energy Directive" against Canadian heavy crude to be shelved.
2. Opposition to the construction of LNG terminals on our coasts to disappear.
3. Obama to finally decide that the Keystone XL pipeline, is as Stephen Harper described a "no brainer".
Stocks that will benefit in Canada would be, Suncor, Baytex, CPG, Cenovus, TRP, Enbridge etc.
BIG BROTHER 3/9/2014 11:52:33 AM Report

Keystaone oil has no major benefit for the US. The oil is destined to go offshore. Harper, the anti commie, made a sweet deal with China, remember. Now, there's a move on their policies towards decriminalization of weed. Next thing you know, they'll be setting their Senators free to think for themselves....what a concept!!

T-rat 3/9/2014 12:12:31 PM Report

Breakfast anyone? When you pour that bowl of cereal for yourself, kids or grandkids, do you know what you're feeding them? I just read the ingredient lists and did a little research.

BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene): an antioxidant added to keep your cereal crunchy. BHT is essentially "jet fuel'.

And in other foods:

Brominated Vegetable Oil: bromine is the active ingredient and this stuff is used as a flame retardant in furniture.

Propylene Glycol: commonly called antifreeze and it is in salad dressings for instance. I just threw out my President's Choice Blue Menu dressings.

Natural Flavors/Colours: Did you know that Castoreum is a natural flavor? It is used in vanilla flavoured products. It comes from the castor sacs found near a beaver's anus!! My vanilla-flavoured yogurt says "natural flavours".

TBHQ -- tertiary butylhydroquinone: a synthetic preservative used in gum, nail polish, cheese crackers and chicken nuggets. Oh ya, it is also a biodiesel additive.

I dashed off e-mails to Kellogg's, General Mills and Quaker Oats. I'm curious to see how they tell me that jet fuel is a good way to kick start my morning!!

After lunch I'll have to see what the President's Choice folks have to say.

theprotector 3/9/2014 12:14:26 PM Report

here we go wisen - are you that out of touch and stupid - the decesion for the keystone did not rest with the president. You are always so quick to judge. There is a process at play.
I would suspect some cash payments to harper et al from keystone, does he work for them? The number of jobs for Canada will not dramatically increase, so its a no brainer at least for who made the deal for Canada.

David Poluck 3/9/2014 12:29:30 PM Report

Took a ride down Great Northern coming off of 5th line and all the way down to Queen Street.
Wow is it ever rough. From Prouse to the hospital it looks like the pavement is crumbling. Further down you have the roller coaster ride from all of the water main breaks.
I don't think I have ever seen the road surface in such bad condition. Anyone remember when the section between Prouse and the hospital was paved?
When hiring contractors for road construction I wonder what warranty is given on the workmanship?

statusquo 3/9/2014 12:31:21 PM Report

T rat,

Unfortunately, processed foods are loaded with chemicals that just because they are called "natural" are not necessarily good for you .
Take sodium and sugar, both natural ingredients but found in overabundance in all sorts of processed foods.
Fresh vegetables and fruit, even though possibly contaminated with pesticides, are probably a wiser choice then anything that comes in a box or can.
Pop and fruit juices are the biggest contributors to high sugar intakes .
statusquo 3/9/2014 12:38:40 PM Report

And here again I am perplexed that I am actually agreeing with dear Wisenheimer.
For the foreseeable future there is no way to get away from fossil fuels. Green energy is fine as an auxiliary energy source, but with the expansion of emerging economies and subsequent hunger for vast amounts of cheap power the only solution to fossil fuels would be nuclear power. But, with the recent accident in Japan and Chernobyl in the eighties, nuclear power is tarnished and scares the hell out of people. Undeservedly so, I might add.
More deaths and illnesses can be attributed to coal burning power plants alone than the combined toll from atomic energy.
Just Curious 3/9/2014 12:43:55 PM Report

Soo today....What is with the flyers this week. It's Sunday and this weeks flyers aren't up yet..So much for having them renewed every Friday, huh? Sounds petty, I know, but I don't get them delivered to my door and depend on Sootoday for them..It appears to me that since you guys joined with local two and have no competition things have gone downhill...:(

DP .. GNR from 2nd line to 3rd line is a provincial link and was to be included in "link funding" last fall. Then the libs cancelled the "link" program and promised new funding to be announced last month.
Still waiting. Apparently Ms. Wynne and her former boss spent all the money on "other important stuff".
Can provide a list if desired.
Hope there's lots of cold mix up at Elwood Robinson's.

right wing 3/9/2014 1:17:23 PM Report

statusquo

Agree on the nuclear.
Japan's "accident" was not the fault of the reactor itself...kind of hard to build in safe guards against what hit it.
Here in Ontario we have seen nothing yet compared to where hydro costs are heading.
No wonder McGuinty ran when they started the investigations.
Wisenheimer 3/9/2014 1:19:21 PM Report

DP .. further to this .. the city and the province determine what specs are to be followed, when doing road construction and resurfacing. City and Provincial inspectors must pass on all work as it is completed. That they usually go with the low bid may be "penny wise and pound foolish".
The stretch of road that you refer to is long past it's expected life and should have been done a couple of years ago.

D P and Wisen..

I am not sure about the city, but I know that the surface dressing contracts for the Local Road Boards are done in North Bay, there not being an engineer here in the Sault for handing out contracts. Last years contracts were cancelled because the total was over a Million bucks worth and had to be re-tendered and signed off down in Toronto. The composition of the mix is 5/8 crush and a emulsion, which unfortunatly goes very brittle in cold weather and is easily torn up by the graders/snowplows. One thing that puzzles me is why they do not put all the services under the sidewalks, especially along major roads where vehicular traffic outnumbers pedestrian ...

Islam frowns upon representing holy figures in art and depictions of the Prophet Mohammad .
Islam doesn't seem to frown upon treating their women like property though. But, to each their own.
