Morning Chuckle

An 80-year-old Italian goes to the doctor for a check-up. The doctor
is amazed at what good shape the guy is in and asks, 'how do you stay
in such great physical condition?'

I'm Italian and I am a golfer,' says the old guy, 'and that's why I'm
in such good shape. I'm up well before daylight and out golfing up and down the fairways. I have a glass of vino, and all is well.'

"'Well' says the doctor, 'I'm sure that helps, but there's got to be
more to it. How old was your Father when he died?'

'Who said my Father's dead?'

The doctor is amazed. 'You mean you're 80 years old and your Father's

still alive. How old is he?'

'He's 100 years old,' says the Old Italian golfer. 'In fact he golfed
with me this morning, and then we went to the topless beach for a walk
and had a little vino and that's why he's still alive. He's Italian
and he's a golfer, too.'

'Well,' the doctor says, 'that's great, but I'm sure there's more to
it than that. How about your Father's Father? How old was he when he

'Who said my Nono's dead?'

Stunned, the doctor asks, 'you mean you're 80 years old and your
grandfather's still living! Incredible, how old is he?'

He's 118 years old,' says the Old Italian golfer.
The doctor is getting frustrated at this point, 'So, I guess he went
golfing with you this morning too?'

'No, Nono couldn't go this morning because he's getting married today.'
At this point the doctor is close to losing it. 'Getting married? Why
would a 118 year- old guy want to get married?'

'Who said he wanted to?'

Good morning
Yesterday mention was made of learning French in school. Most of us suffered thgrough Latin and French and they taught French wrong.
Consider how we acquire our native language. We learn to speak it and then to write it.
Yet we were taught French just like Latin.
Years later I studied French at university and once I started to dream 'en francais' I realized I'd internalized the language.

OK in the spring time I said that the Maple syrup runs better when it is cold at night and warm during the day right? I think? Not as soon as it stays mild?
Whats your opinion ole pal?
Grump 3/8/2014 9:08:34 AM Report

WOW! good morning everyone, looks like a lovely sunny day now after that little bit of snow. I actually enjoyed last evenings posts and had a few good laughs. Even Wisen was good for a laugh as apparently we were all laughing at him. I was being a little lazy this morning but time to saddle up and get back at it. Have a great day all.
Grump 3/8/2014 9:11:25 AM Report

Old-cat, Spelly may still be in a religious snit from last night. Cold nights and warm days. Have a good one.
Just Curious 3/8/2014 9:18:16 AM Report

Old cat 33; Spelly was at the Moose last night,I believe, so may not be up yet but in answer to your question yes, if the weather gets too warm the sap doesn't make good syrup.. Mild days and cold nights are what makes it.. Pull an rw and google it. They had a piece on the news about that the other night..

And TFinn, must just be my beast 'cause the 4G stick didn't help much..It's usually like lightening..Think I'm gonna drop Shaw and go back on the stick anyway... 55 bucks a month for basic is a bit much on my pension..:)

Good morning everyone.

Flyhawk, certain you are.

Tonight don't forget to advance your clock as we switch to daylight saving time.

Do not forget to change your smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector battery. Smoke detectors save life.

If you have a hard wire smoke or CO detector, carefully vacuum it.

If you are a tenant, it's your responsibility to change the battery.
T-rat 3/8/2014 9:37:53 AM Report

Just Curious: since Spelly is absent, the word is "lightning", as in fast. Lightening is to make lighter, as in whiter, or as in lighten up, which everybody on the site this sunny Saturday morning appears to be doing.
Just Curious 3/8/2014 9:42:10 AM Report

Bobby, have to disagree with you on that one.. When I was a super at a 60 unit building here in town we went every 6 months and changed out the batteries thru-out the building and had everyone sign that it was done. If you choose to remove it after that it was your problem.. May be different in duplexes but we had to do it according to regulations in ours. The building was built prior to hard wired detectors(1977). Hated doing it as you had to go thru a half dozen times before you got everyone...:)
Just Curious 3/8/2014 9:44:47 AM Report

T Rat; Saw the mistake but was to lazy to change it...LOL..:) Have to start paying attention to my spell-check.. I make so many mistakes the spell-check is like having a nagging wife some days...:)

Old-cat, a little late as Grump has already provided the answer but I'll be glad to be of service to a fellow Bruins fan. I'm led to understand that the procedure requires cold nights and warm days to be most effective. Gilbertson is now producing.

QUOTE We must have bilingualism in all of Canada except Quebec where English is practically forbidden. UNQUOTE
The Laws of the Government of Canada relating to official bilingualism apply in Québec in exactly the same manner and to the same degree as in the rest of Canada.
New Brunswick is the only province of Canada having English and French as its official languages for matters of provincial jurisdiction. The official language of Alberta for matters of provincial jurisdiction is English; that of Québec is French. In addition to all services in English, the other provinces provide certain services selectively in French, as does Alberta.

QUOTE Canadian French is definitely different than true Parisian French, but only in inflection and pronunciation, the rules remain the same. UNQUOTE
1.Canadian English is definitely different than that spoken by Her Majesty the Queen and by speakers of the British Broadcasting Corporation, but only (sic) in inflection and pronunciation, the rules remain the same.
2. Having lived or worked in France off and on for more than three decades, I have never heard a Frenchman use the expression “Parisian French.” Indeed, a raucous Parigot accent is as hard on the ears of most Frenchmen I know as a garbled Cockney accent is to those of cultured Englishmen.
3. As regards learning the language of Molière, a British Ambassador whose own French was excellent once told me that he recommended the horizontal method. The French equivalent to that expression is “apprendre sur l’oreiller.”

Bobby Nerves 3/8/2014 11:37:54 AM Report

Grump 3/8/2014 12:36:54 PM Report

B.B.B. I have to agree with the ambassador and you. I worked in French Canada off and on for years. I was told on more than one occasion that to learn proper French you have to sleep with a French woman. I was single at that time and thoroughly enjoyed the work, but it didn't do a damn thing for my poor French. That said if one can get loved and fed, how much more does one need?

Thanks for asking...

Everything is fine with the group... they are in Uganda at the present time, making their way eastward towards the Congo. She got a touch of the stomach flu but that is normal with the diet change and the Malaria meds.

They did a minor itinerary change due to the activities of the Christian militia near the DRC/Ugandan border but we have a plane on call in case a quick extraction is needed. The local hosts do not see a need for concern.

My wife loves the people and the scenery. They are so appreciative of every little thing that is done for them. Their next couple of weeks will be in the DRC (Congo) and my wife will be more at home because she speaks the language. They return to Canada on the 25th of March.

The Congo is the most resource-rich country on Earth. The Congo river alone has such a drop to the sea that its hydroelectric can power the entire continent of Africa all on it's own.

A man dies and arrives at the pearly gates... furious.

He demands of St. Peter... "Why am I here ?"

St. Peter says calmly, "There must be a reason you are here, we don't just bring someone here for no reason"

The man is adament. " I am only 35 years old, I don't smoke, I don't drink. I go to the gym all the time and I am in excellent health. I went to bed last night and I woke up here. DEAD."

"There must be some explanation", says St. Peter. "Let's start with your name and occupation".

" John Smith, mechanic." replies the man.

"Ok, let me check your file....."
St. Peter returns after a short time with the answer...
"You died of old age"

"WHAT ?!?" screamed the mechanic. "I AM ONLY 35 YEARS OLD ! "

"Well" said the old saint, "According to the amount of labour you billed, you're 123."

I know that you never use Google.
Do you know how I know...cause those that do use Google are smarter.
Science tells me so through University studies and Harvard is one of those involved.
Humans are "natural-born cyborgs," and the Internet is our giant "extended mind."
Much like reading encyclopedias in the past, studies show that those that use an internet source such as Google tend to have more information and facts on hand and score higher I.Q.'s.

I'm betting you didn't have a set of encyclopedias when you were a kid did ya Grump.
