Good morning everyone. I certainly got my laughs for the day re my medical diagnosis from the masters of the swamp. My M.D. wouldn't agree with you about my blood pressure or likely anything else. By the way rw it wasn't me who got ticked off and picked up my crayons and went home several weeks ago in a huff. You clowns mistake total disgust at your rude, crude, dumb a**** posts for anger and high blood pressure. I believe my friends are correct and it's time to stop posting to the swamp. Ta, ta darlings. Have a great day all.

I want to say something and would gladly post my comment in the appropriate section of sootoday but, that is no longer possible!
I am referring to the news story which generated plenty of posts & has now been close to any further comments.
First to sootoday. That was NOT news and should`ve been under community events.
Secondly to the homosexual community. No one is "afraid" of you. You flatter yourselves! Get rid of some of your "PRIDE" and start acting like humans! Stop judging others and you just might find acceptance.
Do not attack those who do not agree with your lifestyle! Most of us do not care what is going on behind closed door regardless to if it`s coming from a homosexual or heterosexual!
Please stop drawing attention to yourselves through these petty arguments. You have the same rights as a heterosexual! You cannot DEMAND that anyone accept YOU or WHAT YOU DO! Get over yourselves!
I have finished with this topic and I believe sootoday should stop feeding into the WHINING of this group that clearly has nothing better to do than to attempt to control everyone including the actions of our city! If they do not like it here, by all means LEAVE and form your own city!
Good day and God bless to everyone!

I really want to understand why you are so afraid of SOMEONE ELSE'S lifestyle, but I think it would be a useless exercise.

The brainstorming meeting which got you all worked up is one of many that are going to be held for many different groups. The gay community just happens to be first. You could probably approach the organizers to have disadvantaged Christians like you included as one of the topics.

The very fact that Sootoday had to pull the comments section on that article should tell you that there is an attitude problem in the Soo that needs to be discussed.

Good morning folks,, I have been off for a couple of weeks due to two deaths in the family, was very stressful to me. I did on occasion pop in to see some of the posts though.... JIMSSM... I saw your posts yesterday.. re.."" show me something Jesus said""... I know you read your Bible and at one point i thought you mentioned your belief in the Trinity, ( thought it was you, could be wrong )In any case, The Trinity would make Jesus God.. no?? Thus making what the Bible said came from Jesus,, that is just "" my "" understanding of it. I also do not agree with those who you and some call.. cherry pickers ,lol I lived across the street at one time from two very nice Lesbian Ladies,, I also gave a refference to the OPP Dept. as one of the gals was applying for a job. At that interview , not one thing was mentioned of her lifestyle and was just asked about what type of a person she was.. She got the job and is now an OPP Officer.. Amen! I seen some of the posts from 3/3/2014 concerning of what this site is becoming.. there were comments from J.C..Northern male, Fly and ZING. and i couldn"t agree more with them. I had even put meself in one of those catagories, which i will never do again,, as Fly had said.. "" I"m too old for pissing matches"",lol especially with the ones that are a wee daft in the head :) I was once asked by a certain poster as to why i never told me hubby that i was on this site, which was really none of their business , but the reason was as 66 cherokee had said,, me hubby would have said"" Why are ye looking at that crap" ,lol.. However having said that, why would you want and allow your wife to travel to an area as unsafe and unstable as that part of the world?? This is something I do not understand, why anyone would want to put themselves in harms way, however much you want to help people.. To go to places that are dangerous and then expect the government or other agencies to step in and secure you... Sorry Jim, I just do not understand...

It's a chance we take to try to make a difference. All I can tell you is that if you personally ever experienced it, you would be going back as often as you could.

A new development that should interest not only gun owners but anyone who owns anything that is potentially dangerous, is that the federal government just granted amnesty to owners of the firearms that were reclassified by the RCMP and deemed prohibited. Twelve years ago these Swiss Arms semi-auto rifles were ruled to be legal, but suddenly last week, the RCMP changed its mind and said they weren't. Owners who had paid over $3000 for a rifle would have had to turn them in without compensation or fail jail terms for a gun crime.

There are a number of issues at play here, including how the RCMP ever came to the conclusion that it could circumvent Parliament and make laws on their own. There is also the issue of arbitrarily making private property that has always been legal suddenly illegal without government being involved. Police forces are meant to enforce the law, not rewrite it.

Has the RCMP overstepped its bounds, again? I say "again" in reference to its actions in High River Alberta last spring when it invaded 2000 homes and confiscated firearms, even from homes that weren't flooded.

the protector

Interesting response! Let's address the issues you raise. First, in High River, the RCMP stated that it was taking guns that were in plain sight and could be a danger. They lied. They actually knocked down doors, broke into locked closets and cabinets and took firearms. They also broke into homes that were not in the flood zone. So it wasn't safety that motivated the RCMP. It was on their agenda to confiscate. By the way, they only stated that they would return them to the owners after Sun News broke the story.

Second, you are correct in stating that gun ownership isn't a right, at least in Canada. Neither is car or ATV or even home ownership. So imagine you own an ATV or a muscle car, both potentially dangerous items that have killed and maimed people. You bought them legally, but 3 years later, the RCMP decrees that your model of ATV or car is now prohibited and you must turn it in immediately. Without compensation. If not, you go to jail! If you can imagine that scenario, then you can perhaps understand how legitimate gun owners feel. If, of course, you still feel that the RCMP should have that right, then your idea of what living in a democracy ought to be, would be quite different from that envisioned by most people.

Think what you like protector, firearm owners know the truth about what happens and no all of the guns weren't returned.

A state of emergency doesn't give police the right to search your property and confiscate firearms which are legally stored.

It is also not their job to come up with their own laws regarding firearms. They are only supposed to enforce laws made by government.

That is characteristic of a police state.

End of discussion, you're wrong.

Not my fault you're anti-gun.

Hunter, if you compare Canada to a police state you really need to get out of the basement more often.. We live in one the best countries in the world and still you guys criticise it.. How many of your firearms did they confiscate? None?? Well there you go, you have absolutely nothing to complain about.. And I don't really blame them after all the people they have lost in the last few years to regular hunting rifles. anyway, to sum up, if a half dozen heavily armed cops show up at your door and take your guns they must have had a reason, and all you will do about it after you stop shaking is get on here and piss and moan about it...:)
Hunter101 3/5/2014 3:53:46 PM Report

Just Curious, typical uneducated answer.

I compared the RCMP to "conducting themselves as such."

I never said Canada was a police state.

Second, if some cops come to your door and ask for your guns, there is most certainly not always a reason. Look at the Ian Thompson case. That was unjustifiable.

People lost to hunting rifles.... Hmmmm.....

People lost to cars, knives, hammers, stupidity?

Pretty small picture if you think about using that as a reason.

If they ban one type of gun, what's to say they won't ban another. Look what happened to rifles in Australia. If it was semi-auto they confiscated it.

Use your damn head.
Hunter101 3/5/2014 3:59:09 PM Report

Sorry JC, but if you have your convincing shoes on, try to point them at someone else.

Firearms owners are standing up nation wide. Mr. Hayes is in town on the 17th, and I have a meeting booked.
notpc 3/5/2014 4:25:34 PM Report

Just Curious
It's a bit surprising how readily you justify the RCMP actions in High River and again last week by implying that if they didn't take Hunter's guns, then why worry. That's exactly how the RCMP hopes people will think. The RCMP doesn't want people to think through the ramifications of a police force making up laws as they go because of a preconceived agenda.

Perhaps the only way to wake up the sleeping citizens who don't care unless it happens to them is for the police to do as I mentioned in my previous post. Ban certain models of things that everybody has like cars, kitchen knives, ATVs, etc and put people in jail if they don't give them up. People who so readily accept the erosion of other people's rights might wake up when their own rights are taken away.

notpc, couldn't agree more.
Just Curious 3/5/2014 4:29:03 PM Report

Don't get me wrong, I used to do all the mean little things you big-time hunters do to wild animals but I grew up.. Haven't owned a gun in years and don't feel any less a man because of it.. You guys sound like someone is cutting off your testicles when confiscating firearms is mentioned....

The purpose of the amnesty is to buy time for something to be done whilst keeping gun owners out of legal trouble and losing thousands of dollars.

It is not a solution, it is a step in the right direction.
Hunter101 3/5/2014 4:55:09 PM Report

Jim, it's not a conspiracy. Gun confiscation happened here in the 1990's when the Firearms Act came into effect. It happened in Australia. It almost happened in the United States.

It WILL happen if people Canadians sit idle and let the RCMP act as a rogue force.
Grump 3/5/2014 4:56:01 PM Report

Lol Hunter, Steely and Wisen shouldn't have computers because the can't put a decent post together. Just hair brained garbage that fails to make whatever point they were trying for. Don't tell them that there are moving parts or they will be tearing them apart to look. Now that I have read that sentence, tell them all you like. LMAO
notpc 3/5/2014 4:57:22 PM Report

Just Curious
According to StatsCan, in 2011, 35% of homicides were carried out by knives, versus 27% by guns of which 2/3 were by handguns. That means that knives were used in homicides about 4 times more often than long guns. By your rationale that because rifles were used to kill some officers, we should be looking at confiscation of certain models of knives before we ever start looking at long guns. Knives are far more likely to be used for murder.

As for your comments about hunting, it appears from what you say that you perhaps believed that hunting was all about feeling like a man. You quit hunting and maybe it's because you don't feel the need that you assume other hunters have. For most other hunters though, that's not their motive at all. They do it for completely different reasons that you apparently don't understand. That's fine. Just don't be so critical of those whose rationale is outside of your area of interest.

Here we go, they ran out of arguments so the bashing is near.

You've been here a lot longer than I have, so you must know the crowd. To paraphrase what you said, when the bashing starts, you know they've run out of "ammunition".

Hunter....RCMP =Royal CANADIAN mounted Police... What a bunch of crap..

notpc... I am sure it makes you guys into real HE MEN to put a bullet between the eyes of some deer that you have been feeding apples to all winter so you could be sure they would come when the season begins... Not owning a gun doesn't make me feel much one way or another other than a little more sane than some of you airheads that think you are not whole without a weapon. When people start making light of the fact that law enforcement officers are getting gunned down regardless of exactly what gun is used to do it we have degenerated beyond redemption..And I am not gonna waste anymore time on this.. It's like pounding sand down a rat hole, they just keep digging another exit...:)

Your entire analogy on hunting and firearm ownership ("owning a gun makes one a he man") tells me that you know absolutely nothing about it.
Jimssm 3/5/2014 5:48:27 PM Report

If you don't think it's a conspiracy, what is the reason you think the government wants to confiscate your guns ??

The reasoning that is always just under the surface is that the government takes your guns with a knock on the door in the middle of the night and then 'takes over'.

I have posted on here several times about how the government listens to your cell conversations, your texts, reads your emails, tracks your movement... yet no one seems to care... why would you think John Q Public would care about hunters ?
Hunter101 3/5/2014 6:04:23 PM Report

Jim, don't make the mistake of thinking I don't care just because I don't reply to your posts about said monitoring.

I'm talking about something that has already happened and that appears to be happening again.

Think about it, rifle or not, if the government told you to surrender something you spent your hard earned on would you?

For no reason, to boot. The kicker here is none of the 1800 or so rifles which were deemed prohibited in the blink of an eye were EVER used in a crime. Think about that. Over a decade in this country and ne'er a crime with any of those 1800. It proves we as legal firearm owners have done nothing wrong and now are being punished because the RCMP don't trust us. The very people they background check daily using their database.

notpc, if you haven't been here long, I'll give you this place in a nutshell.

When you put a well thought out post on here prepare for it to be lost in the wind. Your posts have been excellent from what I see and you've already been victim of attacks.

What you have in here is a bunch of know-it-all, chip-on-the-shoulder, I-told-you-so bunch of no-gooders. The concept of what actually happens goes straight over their heads.

Please, don't be alarmed. They play a game on here called the one-up game. They try to find any little nuance that makes sense to them and twist logic so they can appear to have better rationale than you.

Keep posting as you have. I, for one, appreciate your objectiveness.

Jimssm and Zing...

I just got back from town and am catching up on the posts.
Jim, I sincerely hope that your wife has a safe event free journey and returns home safe and sound. I was not thinking of the cost or anything like that but, I was just thinking back to the events around another person from the Soo, Mr Looney, who was held captive for somewhile, and everyone was on the government to step in and take some action to secure his release. I have been down in the Chad region of north Africa, but was working there, not in a refugee assistance mode. The one thing that I found somewhat disturbing shall we say is that no one had food but bags of guns and ammo. I also admit this was about 25 years ago and things may have changed, but somehow doubt that.
Zing 3/5/2014 7:28:05 PM Report

No worries Mallet, just thought you may have read too far between the lines, that's all, no harm intended.

irishfey 3/5/2014 8:09:39 PM Report

All this talk about guns reminds me of many years back when i had my first place and was living alone,, me Dad gave me a nice 22 semi automatic. He told me that if anyone ever broke into me house, i was to shoot.. not at the arms or legs, but right in the middle, then drag the body off of me property ,lol.. Not to toot me own horn, but i was a crackerjack shot.. ( no, i never shot anyone ,lol ) I even won at a turkey shoot years ago,lol.. Is just my opinion, but i think that every homeowner should have a gun and me Hubby is a hunter so we are well stocked... I don"t like it when he shoots the deers though, they are so pretty. I still have that little beauty and would not give it up for any reason!... People kill people, not the guns. No,, having a gun don"t make you a Man,, just makes you smart..... Now , this is just "my" opinion....
Hunter101 3/5/2014 8:16:44 PM Report

irishfey, I agree with your opinion. Some people don't share that opinion. That is fine. I would never try to convince someone to own a gun. It is a personal choice.

That being said, they don't seem to have a problem trying to tell me why I shouldn't own one. However, that is a problem.

I can give all the proof of how safe I am and most legal firearm owners are and it just gets brushed away and dismissed.

Think about how nutty people get when it comes to the word gun. The very mention of the word can make some wet their pants.

rw, thanks! Then my post succeeded.
irishfey 3/5/2014 8:31:17 PM Report

Hunter 101.. What bothers me is that they want to take away our guns and that leaves us helpless in protecting ourselves. The bad guys out there will always have a way of getting their hands on guns, so whats the point? !! I do think that some folk should be really checked out before they are allowed to own a gun though, some real nut cases out there! I have had some folk tell me that since i am a Christian, i should not have any guns in the house.. I just reply.. the good Lord gave me brains to and i intend to use them!... I told this one to Mallet before.. We have a " small" sign on the garage and it reads... " This house is guarded by shotgun, three days a week,, you guess which three "" ,lol,, We have never had a problem!....
Hunter101 3/5/2014 8:39:30 PM Report

irishfey, I agree with your post.

I have found that posting your used target in the window can let them decide if they should take their chances.

Just seen on Sootoday...'" Weapons charges in Blind River"... Tiss folks like that , that make it hard for the rest of us!... This is funny.. when Mallet and i were talking before, we said to put out a couple of BIG tow chains with dog clasps on the end of them,,, those and the gun sign should do the trick, unless the crooks were a complete moron ,lol..... and to all a good " safe " night....
sparks7 3/5/2014 9:55:36 PM Report

Well I have hunted all my life and I will say this. Many "hunters" out there today do not have a clue what hunting is all about. It's best to stay as far away from these types as possible. You will recognize them when you see them driving the roads endlessly on their atvs and trucks in the hopes of seeing something they can shoot.Lots of them will be wearing only orange "successful" moose hunter baseball caps even though the temp outside is around freezing. They can get away with that because about the only time they get out of their trucks is to take a piss and grab another beer. The ones that are carrying guns that look more like military assault than hunting rifles should especially avoided. IMO.
sparks7 3/5/2014 10:01:58 PM Report

be avoided
Hunter101 3/5/2014 10:14:56 PM Report

sparks, if you're so opinionated that you're judging a man based on the rifle he prefers, be it modeled after an assault rifle or not, you have no business in the woods. It's ignorant and rude people like you who ruin it just as much as the drunk people who drive around in their trucks and ATV's.

If you know anything, you'd know that Remington modeled a rifle after the Colt M4 carbine called the Remington VTR. A great rifle for deer. Of course, anyone who uses that rifle must be a moron according to you.
Hunter101 3/5/2014 10:20:32 PM Report

By the way sparks, show me a rifle that wasn't meant to "assault." It's a made up term. It's used by people such as yourself who look at a rifle and think the way it looks has a lot to do with the way it functions.

The way a rifle or shotgun looks has very little to do with function. Function depends on the internals and the design of the moving parts. So you avoid those people, they won't appreciate your narrow mind either.
