Good Sunday Morning everyone!
Status, I read your comments on Ukraine's involvement during the second wold war.
You were partially correct but this link helps with as Paul Harvey used to say..."The rest of the story"

Good morning everyone and David. When I was in Saudi I hired a Ukrainian/Canadian architect but had a hell of a time getting him a visa as the Arabs hated the Russians and anyone even close to them. The Nazi connection wouldn't bother them as they quietly supported the Germans. Anyway I finally got his visa and two months later he took over as Construction Manager of a large project in Yanbu. The Saudis run their political system somewhat like Harper. What's the best for me first and to hell with everyone else unless they are my buddies and haven't been thrown under the bus yet. Have a great day all.

Grump,,What I found interesting is even though they came to Canada way before the war, their son, my great uncle went back with the Canadian forces to fight the Germans.
Harper and JT's antics are small potatoes in comparison to what is going on over there!

Most of the Eastern European countries are that poor when compared to the original E. When commenting on certain subjects, I believe that it is always good to admit one’s own prejudices.
1. I despise Communism, particularly after working up close to its adherents for two hitches in Indochina. For me these guys have two main precepts:
(1) The end justifies the means, and
(2) Rule of law and simple fair play are for patsies.
2. For me Putin had a Communist face from the first moment when I saw his mug on television. He was raised by those jerks, not only in their basic ideology, but as an agent of the KGB, the Soviet version of the Nazi Gestapo with everything bad that such a comparison implies.
3. This morning I heard a commentary by a French expert concerning the current Ukrainian crisis and Putin’ s probable intentions which convinced me. It went along the following lines:
(a) Krushchev transferred Crimea , which had been part of Russia for centuries, to the Ukraine in 1954 as part of a hare-brained scheme for growing wheat contrary to the laws of nature. Crimea nevertheless retained a certain autonomy as a sop for its mainly Russophone population. Meanwhile, during the Soviet hegemony, the eastern part of the Ukraine itself had become populated by a substantial number of Russophones as well.
(b) The breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia which are legally part of the tiny nearby country of Georgia, have long been outside of the control of that country's government. They have their own de-facto governments, are supported by Russia, and Russian troops are stationed there.
3. An analogy between the fate of Georgia and a likely future Russian takeover of Crimea and the mainly Russophone eastern part of the Ukraine is manifestly self-evident.
For my own part, as for the international deliberations and palaver which will likely precede the foregoing probability, forgive me if the word “Munich” comes to mind.

I have to ask who designed the new part of the 3rd line? I was coming out of industrial park on to third line , there is a slopped bank on the south side of the third line. You have to pull out onto the the third line to see if any traffic is coming . As I was sitting there waiting for traffic to clear a vehicle was turning into industrial park. The vehicle behind it decided to pass it.Well there is a turning lane in the lane going west, and had a car in it turning into the industrial park. Because of the rise in the road the car going east could not see him when he went to pass. Was so close to a head on. I think it will not be long before there is a major head on here. The city traffic department should really look at this spot. There should have been a turning lane on the third line for vehicles going east to have been able to turn into the industrial park..

The alternate choices of parties or the alternate choices for leader of the country? Mulcair is probably the best alternative, as in strong leader, but the NDP don't stand a chance. Trudeau hasn't really shown much, one way or the other, but his speeches resound with me. His play on the Senate may only be a smoke-screen, but it is more than Harper has done in his time. cutting the Senators loose is only a smoke=screen, until one realizes what the Senate is supposed to represent....a non-partisan second sober thought, with autonomy from influence of their party. He appointed 57 Senators, after campaigning on the fact that he wouldn't appoint any. And his judgement on those speaks to his judgement on all matters. As far as 'fixing' the Senate.....they all knew that can't be done without opening the Constitution, a near impossible task, fraught with all kinds of pitfalls.

You know, since this incident in the Ukraine a lot of Russia bashing has been going on. Before you say anything bad about Russia, I ask you to apply your same logic to the USA. Our media has been on a Russia bashing mission since the olypics started....all based on US news feeds. It's their agenda you're hearing. They're not telling you the truth. The Ukraine and Russia have been at odds since time began in that part of the world. That's all this is. If US citizens(or Canadian) were in the same position, you can bet your ass we'd have our troops there as well so stop the hypocracy please. Not to mention major Russian interests which they obtained through the "elected" government of the Ukraine, that the new "unelected" government is threatening due to their bigotry. If you support democracy, you have to support the elected government. Trust me, people there are mental, Russian citizens would be victims of ethnic cleansing in no time without protection. Don't say it can't happen, it happens in that part of the world OFTEN.
The USA has more troops occupying sovereign nations on this planet than any other. A large majority of them uninvited. You can bet your dollar they have CIA agents there stirring the pot as well. The only response Canada or anyone should have to the current situation is to ask them to call for a new election in the Ukraine. The USA doesn't want that, because they know they'll lose their influence. It's that simple.

Here we go.....
Hopefully you have a shop vac or can borrow one.
You have to use a shop vac because they have the capability of vacuuming up water.
Be sure and remove the internal dust filter prior to using on water.
There is an overflow on your tub that has vents on the bottom of it, use tape, masking or duct, and tape over them, this will increase the drawing power of the shop vac.
Vacuum as much of the water out of the tub drain as you can.
Have some containers of hot water ready, does not have to be boiling just hot from the faucet will do.
After you have vacuumed water directly from the tub drain pour the hot water into the drain until it backs up into the tub.
If you have a plunger use the plunger on the drain for about a minute.
This will help in mixing the warmer water with the existing cold water.
Vacuum out the water again and repeat with the H.W., try this four or five times.
The freeze up should be just in the P-trap which is usually directly below the tub, not further than a three foot drop if it was installed to code.
If you are successful, I suggest that you then purchase a couple of containers of R.V. anti-freeze (this is non-toxic to the environment), available at most stores such as Canadian Tire, and until it warms up, each time you finish a bath or shower pour about a cup full down into the drain.
Gurpy 3/2/2014 3:39:52 PM Report
I won`t be able to accomplish this today but, I will give it a shot and let you know how it turns out. Thank you!
right wing 3/2/2014 3:44:26 PM Report
Let me know if you are successful.
The key is removing the standing (existing) water from the drain in order to get to the actual ice blockage.
If the drain line has been graded properly the only place that it could freeze up is as I stated in the P-trap.

So, having firearms would protect the citizens from the BIG bad gubberment and we would be able to fight back.
Look at the Ukraine right now, if the citizens all had Kalashnikovs, that would surely frighten the Russian tanks and well trained professional soldiers. Surely it would.
The Jews in the Warsaw ghetto armed themselves and stood up to the Wehrmacht. Tell me how well that worked out for them?
Yeah.....that makes a ton of sense. I didn't see that...thanks steels. You always thrill me with your acumen.
I do however see the futility of gun control. Switzerland has probably more automatic, combat style weapons per capita ( all registered btw.) than even the United States, however, compared to the random killings that happen almost on a weekly basis in the U.S , they have a fraction of a fraction of gun related violence.
It comes down to culture and political climate and collective schizophrenia.

A US first grade teacher explains to her class that she is an American. She asks her students to raise their hands if they are American too.
Not really knowing why but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like flashy fireworks. There is, however, one exception. A girl named Kristen has not gone along with the crowd.
The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.. "Because I am not an American."
"Then", asks the teacher, "What are you?".
"I'm a proud Canadian," boasts the little girl.
The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Kristen why she is a Canadian.
"Well, my mom and dad are Canadians, so I'm a Canadian too.
The teacher is now really angry. "That's no reason," she says loudly. "What if your mom was a crappy hockey player, and your dad was a crappy hockey player? Would that mean that you're a crappy hockey player too?"
A pause, and a smile. Then, says Kristen, "Nope! That'd mean I'm an American!"

It's not a Hollywood movie script. There are circumstances and forces beyond your control. To equate the gassing of people to a 'soap on a rope' joke goes to show how sheltered your life must have been. You clearly display your historical knowledge gleaned from A&E and "The History Channel".
Things will unfold slowly...they creep up on you....next thing you know you have friends and even family you are no longer able to trust.
It's diabolical.....having a gun will do squat in such circumstances. What you need then is a sophisticated network, connections and help from powerful outside forces.

I said the ones brought in in the last 8 months... bought in Switzerland and painted to look like the Classic Green, then imported.
For the 'liberal conspiracy' crowd, I will point out that it was the RCMP under the Libs that approved the Swiss Classic Green and the RCMP under the Conservatives that have now banned it.
And it's a collector's rifle... it has nothing to do with hunting as your original post insinuated.
Hunter101 3/2/2014 10:31:16 PM Report
Jim, the RCMP under liberal and conservative power are no different from each other. They follow the firearms act which was put in place by the LIBERALS! That piece of poorly written legislation is full of holes and gray areas so that the RCMP can manipulate what it says to their advantage.
And the Classic green was not just a collectors rifle. It was Non-restrictected until a few days ago. It could be used for hunting by law up until thus far.
Jim, what do you think you know that I don't?
You aren't a firearms expert so leave it there.
Hunter101 3/2/2014 10:34:23 PM Report
The Liberals also banned all AK-47's even if they were semi-auto and non-convertible. They banned firearms that were no worse than your average hunting rifle all because they looked "scary."
