Good morning everyone, more damn snow here and on the way. Bobby and Mallet you two knock off this damn snow dancing right now. Sweet c The Bible was written to be a guide to mankind and there was no refrigeration at that time. Pork turns very quickly in the heat. Dadal you have an anti social rant that you attribute to Christians. Get some faith folks and stop cherry picking small bits of the Bible to suit your arguments. These things you are cherry picking were there to suit the times and human conditions of those times. No one is perfect and I'm sure as hell not but it would be a far better world if everyone tried to live a bit closer to what is there. I personally could really work on "Love thy neighbor". LMAO I left out "as thyself" because at times I'm not too damn fond of me either. Have a great day all.

Not much Bounder he has pretty well cleaned us all out. lol.
sweetc 2/18/2014 7:33:32 AM Report

That was my point, Grump... You can cherry pick anything out of the bible that you want. So why condemn homosexuality because the bible says so and not follow other things that the bible says no to like the no eating pork, stoning adulterers, etc etc etc. Why is one bad and not the other?

The bible, like fly stated, was passed on through oral tradition. A 1000 page document, written piecemeal, at differing times, passed on through word of mouth, wouldn't even stand up in a court of law if it was passed on from last week."

Really, you should tell the courts to stop using it to swear people in during testimony.

...and I believed that the basis of the bible was from the five books of Moses and they were written from 1280 to 1250 BC, the most commonly accepted range of dates for the exodus from Egypt, give or take 30 years.
Let me see...I believe I'll go with that since it is basically the facts.

I'm opening a new business, it's called The General Moving Company...specializing in moving Canadian Military Generals.
Thirteen were moved less than 100kms each and it cost 600,000....I smell a hefty profit.
Javaman 2/18/2014 9:55:35 AM Report

Those Generals were following the rules. We do not like the rules...CHANGE THEM .One has to wonder why no one questioned this exorbitant expense years ago.
Right Winger 2/18/2014 9:57:45 AM Report

Sorry all you fellow "Christians" out there. God does not have a spreadsheet that ranks sins. Sin is sin. The problem with "Christians" and homosexuality is some reflect too much on it. Greed is actually spoke of more in the bible than homosexuality. Yet they are equally in sin in the eyes of God.

That being said, society today wants us to ignore what the bible says because of the times. That is equally as wrong as condemning homosexuals. Guess what folks, He loves us all. You cannot cherry pick the bible for your own benefit or argument. Christians do a disservice to Him when they do.

I would love my neighbour/s if they were the Victoria Secrets models, cos otherwise all my neighbours are kinda on the short side!!!

Only thing I question is how come it cost 70grand to move one general four blocks but only 40 grand to move one to the UAE. Seems something a little fishy there. I do not begrudge the service men getting an allowance for relocation, whatever his/her rank, but there has to be a minimum distance and a limit on what can be claimed.

Et Al..
The latest so called scandal is at the heart of the problem with this country, ENTITLEMENT, Duffy and co thought they were entitled to grab as much as they could, this General was entitled to moving expenses but goes overboard. Everyone thinks they are entitled to.. whatever they think they should have, whether they have worked for it or not, because we live in Canada. This is a festering sore which will one day kill the society that we live in, which will be a shame!!!
Javaman 2/18/2014 10:20:27 AM Report

MALLET...MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT ONE GENERALS HOUSE WAS WORTH A MILLION DOLLARS. The 70 grand included real estate fees which would be quite high on a million bucks.
right wing 2/18/2014 10:28:20 AM Report

In this case it is called a Conservative smear campaign due to the fact that the general is a Liberal adviser.
If he was a Conservative adviser it would be another unbelievable scandal...and so it goes.
Jimssm 2/18/2014 10:43:39 AM Report

I think most of the Generals' fees were Real Estate commissions.

The actual moving fees were the same rate as anyone else pays.
mallet 2/18/2014 10:48:42 AM Report

Yes I understand, what you are saying, however in most service relocations the person is in service housing which is not his/hers to begin with so the real estate fees are for buying a house wherever they move to. In this case the man owned his house and moved to another house within a very short distance. I would ask you, if your employer wanted you to move from Victoria BC to St Johns Nfld you would expect them to pick up the cost of moving, but do you think they would pick up the cost of moving 4 blocks? I really do not think so. As I said, entitlement will destroy a country quicker than a war, and from within.
dust2 2/18/2014 10:57:15 AM Report

he was entitled to ONE move, he could of moved anywhere he wanted to, but he chose a place close to his home. taxes from the house was the biggest chunk of the 70K, the rest was moving. He had a grand piano that had to be disassembled because it wouldn't fit through the doors.

you're denying a 20 year veteran his last move because it's too close? don't compare this to a situation with a private company, it's not the same.

the veteran was entitled to one last move. he got his last move. some moves are costly, some are not. you deal with it because the program supports a good cause and it's the least that could be done for someone who's served over 20 years for our country.

you scream ignorance and wah-wah-wah my tax dollars.
dust2 2/18/2014 10:59:53 AM Report

This really is nothing more than a smear job - that 75,000 includes the real estate agent fees from selling the house and other things. If you have family in the military, many of them are all given the same benefit and it usually costs a similar amount. It's what we do for all retiring veterans after 20+ of service when they move out of the housing when they leave the army. And sometimes the houses they move out of are sold.
right wing 2/18/2014 11:07:28 AM Report

Yes it is a policy that has been in place for a long time.
Could you please show me the link or the information that you have showing the complete breakdown in costs including the cash disbursements.

Right Wing:
It probably should be mentioned that you do not have to swear on the Bible if you wish not to. I agree that the courts should stop using it. People should be taken at their word. If they are going to lie, they are going to do it regardless of whether they had their hand on the Bible.

dust2 2/18/2014 11:20:37 AM Report

that information doesn't exist for us, because if it did it would be scrutinized to the penny and would only cause more problems because people are massively ignorant and think they know how things should be

>"In the meantime, it is important for Andrew Leslie to explain why he believes this is a reasonable expense for hard working Canadians to absorb," Nicholson said in a statement. "This is a matter of judgment and the responsible use of taxpayers dollars."

can't believe everyone is getting upset over 72K. If you spread that over ten million people, that's a cost of less than a penny per person. Budgets are in the millions, for this to be an issue means people love smear campaigns. this is 100% a point and shame issue.

people are whiners and this is nothing but proof of that

Military Moving Costs

Detailed military moving regulations can be found at this link.

In particular Section 9 applies to retiring members.
dust2 2/18/2014 11:29:18 AM Report

in addition, to say "we don't believe you show us the proof and specific expenses" means you're not really knowledgeable about mortgages and housing expenses. this 72K included the real estate commission, which usually runs around 5%. A million dollar home is 50K commission, which still leaves 20K for taxes and moving costs.

if you think this needs to be *proven* to you with an expense report, you're basically saying you don't believe them and want to see it yourself. the fact remains that this move was justified, and the cost was also justified too (it's very fair when you look at what the government covered for the move)

this is not a "I guess you just believe the government about anything" issue, it's a "you're either naive, ignorant, or under-educated if you think the cost of this move wasn't fair"
Gurpy 2/18/2014 11:29:46 AM Report

i m not saying all clubs are cults all religions are though in my opinion.
Look back on history back pre christianity. there is not an orginal story in the bible, even the last supper story was taken from a pagon legend. If you map out religions you will see much borrowed from each one. At first I thought well there must be something to this stuff if each one has similar stories, but it is more policial than that....and the time frame from these various stories simply does not add up. I would suggest that all modern relgions are that of a cult.
right wing 2/18/2014 11:37:43 AM Report

It can't simply mean that you were coming off as having information that showed the actual breakdown and was simply being asked to share it...
...and it's more than the 72,000, I read a report that stated there was 600,000 spent on approx. 13 moves.
Is that even true, not sure.
If it is then it sure sounds excessive.

>"...and it's more than the 72,000, I read a report that stated there was 600,000 spent on approx. 13 moves."

600,000 / 13 = $46,153

so what were you saying? lol

I do appreciate your opinion. I can`t say if all religions are cults. My eyes are wide open! Cults are on the rise and have been for a long long time! I do have a bit of an attitude which would make me less than desirable as a candidate for a cult! They like people who blindly trust. NOT ME!
The last supper is documented in the bible. It is not a pagan story.
dust2 2/18/2014 11:53:26 AM Report

you're not getting it. 70K isn't excessive when probably 50K went to mortgage expenses/taxes. distance is irrelevant

this is that understanding part where you go "oh, I never considered that, I guess it's not as excessive as I thought because there's additional costs that are used with that money for the move that I didn't know of before"

The truth just runs off his back like water off the proverbial duck. If it doesn't fit his paradigm, it's obviously a lie. And swearing on a bible has prevented everyone from lying in their testimony.....
Grump 2/18/2014 12:35:31 PM Report

The problems now arising from the Military moves are judgment calls. Since Harper and crew have little to none what would one expect. The brass get the full paid move. Lower ranks got the shaft as they were encouraged to buy their own homes instead of living in base housing. When these soldiers were transferred on short notice and housing prices were depressed they were not compensated for this. In some cases these soldiers were forced into bankruptcy. There is something wrong when a General can move out of a million dollar home and get full bore instead of factoring in the capital gains on the former home. Then to turn around and stiff servicemen who for the most part wouldn't want the new posting is dirty pool at it's worst. Furthermore where has Harper been all this time leaving these rules out there. Then to turn around an cry foul takes the cake. Right Steve It has to be the Liberal's fault that you are incompetent.

theprotector 2/18/2014 12:48:51 PM Report

I do not beleive in a "god" that created man or earth. I do beleive that jesus did exsist however nothing more than a person who had beleifs that were different than the majority. If you recall regilous turmoil has always plagued that part of the world. His arrival on the scene created a movement. I also beleive that mohammand was part of that movement and broke away creating a competing faction of the one god therory. Remember the Koran talks of Jesus in various passages in the Koran.
Right Winger 2/18/2014 12:51:39 PM Report

God forgives all, including homosexuals. Again sin is sin. There is no Top 10 list
theprotector 2/18/2014 12:58:52 PM Report

I stole this:

If, indeed, the Gospels portray a historical look at the life of Jesus, then the one feature that stands out prominently within the stories shows that people claimed to know Jesus far and wide, not only by a great multitude of followers but by the great priests, the Roman governor Pilate, and Herod who claims that he had heard "of the fame of Jesus" (Matt 14:1)". One need only read Matt: 4:25 where it claims that "there followed him [Jesus] great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond Jordan." The gospels mention, countless times, the great multitude that followed Jesus and crowds of people who congregated to hear him. So crowded had some of these gatherings grown, that Luke 12:1 alleges that an "innumerable multitude of people... trode one upon another." Luke 5:15 says that there grew "a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear..." The persecution of Jesus in Jerusalem drew so much attention that all the chief priests and scribes, including the high priest Caiaphas, not only knew about him but helped in his alleged crucifixion. (see Matt 21:15-23, 26:3, Luke 19:47, 23:13). The multitude of people thought of Jesus, not only as a teacher and a miracle healer, but a prophet (see Matt:14:5).

So here we have the gospels portraying Jesus as famous far and wide, a prophet and healer, with great multitudes of people who knew about him, including the greatest Jewish high priests and the Roman authorities of the area, and not one person records his existence during his lifetime? If the poor, the rich, the rulers, the highest priests, and the scribes knew about Jesus, who would not have heard of him?

Snobank 2/18/2014 1:00:13 PM Report

JC, I agree. Arguing religion in a public forum is pointless. No one will ever change their mind on anything. Of course, that's basically true on this site no matter what the topic. It is kind of fun watching different people with their individual versions of the absolute truth confront each other. Personally, I love the argument that a document must be true because somewhere in that precise document it says it is true.

Oh, almost forgot, LOL Gurpy.

The reading and interpretation of scripture generally falls into two categories - faith or scholarship.
The former is difficult to argue. The latter demands study and thought.
So far here I've seen plenty of the first and little of the second.
Gurpy 2/18/2014 1:43:34 PM Report

Nothing wrong with the KJV itself, just some of the readers who believe it is the ONLY bible to be used! I disagree. There are many different versions which suit many different people. (not to cherry pick). Some people have a difficult time understanding the KJV. I was one of them! The NIV study bible spoke clear English to me. It was so easy to understand, had a concordance and a dictionary but, most importantly, spoke in everyday English. Just like reading a good romance novel. Plenty of that in the bible! I know there is a devil! Look around!See all the bad stuff that happens? God isn`t the one doing it! I believe that there will be a second coming and a rapture and people will be forced to take the mark of the beast 666, which by the way, has been in circulation for at least 18yrs that I`m aware of!
I believe that I dwell in the shadow of the most high and that I rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91
I believe that no weapon formed against me will prevail and if I step out of line with God, it will not go well for me and my descendents. Deuteronomy chp. 4 vs 39-40. I try to keep my nose clean!

Actually the NIV has deleted many words as well as verses. Not a good version at all. It does make a difference which version you read. You need to research in order to find that out. Sometimes that version will put a footnote stating that a verse has been deleted. Sometimes it doesn't. The NKJV is easier to read than the KJV. Also, nothing has been deleted.

From an early age I came to understand that religion was a man made invention that preyed on the hopes and fears of people. The biggest connection to God would be the God given brain between one's ears.My brain had a hard time accepting a lot of the beliefs that came with all the 1100 religions in the world. If I said a prayer in a room with nobody else in the room my brain told me that I was the only one to hear that prayer. Why would a God give me a brain to think this way?
I see a world made up of 5 billion people who are all unique in their own way. This is truly the wonder and miracle of life. I always choose the merits of individuality over anything dictated by any religion or the state. Thus I do not judge a person for any of the unique qualities that comprise the person they are including their sexual preference.
I do not criticize or judge the beliefs or lives of others as their God given brain may be different than mine.

I remember going to church as a kid and being scared, very scared. they taught us about hell, they show jesus being stabbed with metal and pinned to a cross, honestly the stuff they showed us was borderline traumatizing. My grandmother had passed away recently, and after seeing their visual interpretation of hell, I was scared to die for a very long time. I was 8 and worried about death for about a month, maybe more.

God tells us "You're special, you're unique, I designed you, you're complex but beautiful, and I love you and care for you"

but then goes and tells us "Oh by the way, I died a while ago for peoples sins, including yours, so either believe in me and follow my rules or burn for all eternity after you die"

I refuse to believe there's a god that loves us, cares for us, when there's massive famine and millions of children dying in poor countries just from not getting enough food.

I brought up the previous story because it shows me how they use fear and insecurities to scare you into their religion. Follow them and Jesus or burn for all eternity. What a god.

By the way, I like how I'm BORN into sin, that Jesus died for our sins X years ago, yet even though I had nothing to do with killing him, I'm just as guilty as the ones who put the steak into Jesus' hand and pinned him to the cross. So he loves me, he cares for me, but the second I'm born I have sins?

I truly believe religion will go the way of the do-do bird. Science answers a lot more than Religion, and a lot of people are realizing that. Too many fallacies and too many questions left unanswered. The only real purpose in life is to enjoy it to the fullest and be as happy as possible. Living a life to make someone else happy is ridiculous, let alone doing it to make a mysterious man in the heavens happy

We don't know anything for sure but to criticize anybody for their belief in God is just ignorant. Also criticizing someone because they don't believe in God is just as ignorant. If believing in God helps some to cope in this world, I don't see what the problem is. It's the extremists that cause the problems. There are extremists in many things. Tune just popped into my head...People are people so why should it be, you and I should get along so awfully. I say thank God for music!!

dust, I remember being really scared too the first time I went to church as a child. The guy started speaking in tongues and it was scarey! I was told to shhhh when I asked what he was doing. I don't go to church. Last time I went to a church I asked the preacher why his doors weren't open at night for the homeless people who need a place to sleep. I got a lame would get dirty, more cleaning, blah blah. I also said that by passing that plate around, he makes people feel obligated to pay in order to have fellowship with like minded people. I brought those topics up to him because in the bible it talks about both and to me, that church (preacher) was being a hypocrite.

The reading and interpretation of scripture generally falls into two categories - faith or scholarship.
The former is difficult to argue. The latter demands study and thought."

...and if you put five scholars in a room to discuss the bible you will come out with seven different theories.

You are the only person brave enough to ask. There is only one way to heaven! It is not through good works only or being a "nice" person or being sin free! No one on earth is "sin free". God does not miss a thing! He sees and he hears!
The way to heaven in to invite Jesus to come into your heart. He is a gentleman and does not do so unless asked to.
Ask him to forgive you of your sins, come into your heart and promise to do your best to follow Him. That`s all you need to do!

Wicket.. Gurpy is right on your question of going to heaven. So many folk think that if their just good people that God will accept them.. The truth as i see it is that you have to accept what Christ did on the Cross, that he died for your sins, and just ask HIM into your heart and life. You just have to believe on HIM and have faith... Soon as you do that,, it"s a done deal! So simple!! After you give your life over to Him, just try and do your best in this life and of course try and read His Word. We will fall, falter and make mistakes but a simple Prayer to HIM , asking for forgiveness, and HE does forgive! We will never walk on water in this life, and going to a Church will not save you either.. It"s the private, personial relationship that you have with HIM that keeps you in HIS hands.. always. When you pray, and we should daily, just talk to him,, God The Father, as a child would talk to his/her own Daddy as that"s what HE is. We are to pray to The Father , through Jesus as Jesus is the one now that makes intersessions for us to The Father... We don"t need "" made up"" prayers, just talk to HIM from your heart. Sometimes when i just can"t seem to find the right words or if i"m really upset, I ask for God to ask The Holy Spirit to pray for me, and HE does. All this talk about the Bible on here don"t mean squat,, It"s what you have done with Gods Son that matters,, you either accept HIM or not, our choice, free will. Folks make God and The Bible seem so complitated when it"s so simple to make that decission. Truth is that God already knows who will accept HIS Son, it was decided way before we were born,, It was God that chose us! Too many Religions ( Man made ) have made folks turn from the truth of God and too many Religions have turned The Bible inside out to suit their own beliefs, thus making it confuseing for others... No matter what you have done in your life,, God forgives, just accept Christ and ask for forgiveness and HE will.... Hope this helps you.... One more thing.. there is a hell, and when one jokes about being with their buddys etc. thats not what hell is. Some folk believe that when you die, that's the end of it, well, it"s not. You will be brought back to life and stand before God for judgement, then sent to hell, and believe me, not a nice place to be as you will be there for eternity, alive and suffering to the full extent of what ever goes on, that i don"t know and don"t want to. I honestly think that Mans time on this Earth is short so i really hope that some of you on here accept Christ.. Your choice!
Gurpy 2/18/2014 7:28:34 PM Report

Couldn`t have said it better myself!

Whoever is reading this post, irishfey is right! Do let the devil fool you into believing that it`s all just make believe. The devil is the father of lies! He is a fallen angel! Was Jesus`s right hand man so to speak. He does not want you to believe! If you believe and repent and say yes to Jesus, the devil looses! And while he`s loosing, the angels in Heaven will be rejoicing. Once you say yes to Jesus, you become one of his son`s. You will have His protection over you and no weapon formed against you will ever prosper! You will still have the everyday concerns we all do, but He will get you though whatever comes your way!! And, when you die you WILL go to heaven not hades (hell). Think about it. You die in your sleep tonight or on your way to work in the morning or just munching on peanuts and you choke and die. Where do you want to go?
Google search hell, heaven, Jesus and beyond and back. A documentary with real stories of people who died and came back to tell about it.

Some of you in the blue room, your hearts are pounding! Do not be afraid! The devil instills fear not God! God will never do anything to make you afraid! He will not hurt you! Once you become one of His, "He will trouble those who trouble you and deliver you from all your troubles". He is the protective papa! Anyone who messes with you WILL be in SERIOUS trouble! He will NEVER leave you or fosake you! You can tell Him anything! He does not rat out on anyone except the children of the devil!

Gurpy.. Pink Peony is right about he NIV. that some verses are left out, but i see by your posts that your on the right path and if it"s easier for you to read i don"t see a problem with it. The NKJ is good and easy to read. There is also the Living Bible that is easier than the NIV. It reads like a story and i read it sometimes before i go to sleep that way you don"t have to deal with all the words that you might find confuseing. One Woman at a Church told me that somefolk that read the Living Bible have gone blind for reading it ,lol.. "Misquoting Jesus
by Bart D. Ehrman

Genre: Nonfiction, Religious

When world-class biblical scholar Bart Ehrman first began to study the texts of the Bible in their original languages he was startled to discover the multitude of mistakes and intentional alterations that had been made by earlier translators. In Misquoting Jesus, Ehrman tells the story behind the mistakes and changes that ancient scribes made to the New Testament and shows the great impact they had upon the Bible we use today. He frames his account with personal reflections on how his study of the Greek manuscripts made him abandon his once ultraconservative views of the Bible.

Since the advent of the printing press and the accurate reproduction of texts, most people have assumed that when they read the New Testament they are reading an exact copy of Jesus’s words or Saint Paul’s writings. And yet, for almost fifteen hundred years these manuscripts were hand copied by scribes who were deeply influenced by the cultural, theological, and political disputes of their day. Both mistakes and intentional changes abound in the surviving manuscripts, making the original words difficult to reconstruct. For the first time, Ehrman reveals where and why these changes were made and how scholars go about reconstructing the original words of the New Testament as closely as possible.

Ehrman makes the provocative case that many of our cherished biblical stories and widely held beliefs concerning the divinity of Jesus, the Trinity, and the divine origins of the Bible itself stem from both intentional and accidental alterations by scribes – alterations that dramatically affected all subsequent versions of the Bible."
