Happy Family Day to everyone in the sweet Soo,,,,little cold out,,,spend some time with your family today, life is too short.
Gurpy 2/17/2014 6:24:35 AM Report

Good Morning and happy family day to everyone! I came across something in the bible which gave me a new found understanding regarding the issue we`ve all been debating. NIV bible Romans Ch.1 vs 24-32.
Grump 2/17/2014 6:41:17 AM Report

Good morning everyone, Happy Father's Day. I can only hope that the junior Granola crew find something better to do today. I was thinking of starting a rant myself today about the discrimination against Church goers because no one is painting a cross on their front door or mounting one on their roof. Think of all those Church goers that may have to move to Toronto or New York to hide among their own. I'll be Ok because I am what I am and believe what I believe and don't have to get in a snit because someone else doesn't buy into it. Have a great day all.
Grump 2/17/2014 6:45:22 AM Report

It's no use, Gurpy. You are only asking for trouble in here mentioning the Guidebook for Humanity. They think they know better than their Creator. Many have no idea about what He says and have no inclination to look it up. Those that do will find arguments against it. They think they know better and are suffering the consequences for it.

.......and out come the Bible thumpers, with their multiple interpretations of the "Good Book'. Yup, that good book......the one that has been the source of more hate for fellow man than any other written words.

The bible has been translated so many times, into so many different languages that Jesus himself wouldn't recognize it.

Gurpy, get over your homophobic attitudes, join the human race. I think the one thing the 'good book' says is to love thy fellow man. Actually, it's promoting homosexuality, if you want to interpret it correctly. So, get your groove on, get your head out of your arse (not a gay thing, an ignorance thing) and join the 21st. century.

It is obvious you do not teach theology.
The fact is that the Bible has not been rewritten over and over again.
For example the New Testament.
The disciples wrote it in Greek.
Of the 6,000 copies of the original that have been studied, written close to the time period of the original, they agree with each other to an almost 100% accuracy.
The very tiny percentage of inaccuracies are made of spelling errors and word alterations.
statusquo 2/17/2014 9:58:20 AM Report

Gurpy...thanks for the Bible passage,

"For this cause God gave them up unto vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature:"

Great stuff! I shall convert yet...just give me time. I am truly a lost soul ,meandering through life's journey in wickedness and despair.
I once dated a Bible thumping dame.....I couldn't keep up with her though. The ideas they get from reading the Bible....
You keep on there little Jesus day I too shall succumb to the one and only truth.
Right now I am not interested....too much wickedness in my heart .

Just a fact.
Problem with it.....
Jimssm 2/17/2014 10:05:22 AM Report

I think Big Brother was speaking of the current Bible.

An example... using Gurpy's Corinthian reference to homosexuality....

Many current Bibles use the word 'homosexuality' in that verse, but my grandmother's bible (circa 1895) uses the word 'effeminate'.

You must admit, those two words have completely different meanings and change the whole meaning of the verse in which they were used.

Someone, somewhere, 'in their wisdom', may have changed what God wanted to tell us.
right wing 2/17/2014 10:09:32 AM Report can think that's what he meant all you like.
I was merely commenting on the common myth that the bible as a book has been re-written or translated so many times it has somehow been greatly altered.

...and Jimssm, take note of the last line in my post.

statusquo 2/17/2014 10:24:01 AM Report

You are aware though that for people that read the Bible and take it as the literal truth, i.e as it is written so it is and not in the symbolic sense then every other religion, every other God or mythology to guide people through life is and must be therefor
false and misguided.

Is that not far more arrogant than saying, "I am not sure but what I am sure of is that the truth cannot be found in any book".
66cherokee 2/17/2014 10:25:50 AM Report

Getting off the religious part of today, did anyone watch the news last night about the retired general who charged $72,000. to move 4 minutes, yes 4 minutes away from where he lived. Yes, his cost should be covered, but not $72,000. It is you, the tax payer who pays for that. The Federal government, whether Conservative or Liberal should tighten up those rules. I am not against him getting some cost covered, but really, $72,000. As a retired person, I can't afford much more money going to the Federal government it being either run by the Conservative or the Liberals. The NDP will never get into power.

Behold i stand at the door and knock ""... Jimssm>> I said that before in a post... folk just take a verse from the Bible and twist it to suit their own need. You have to read the whole chapter to get what it"s all about. Although i"m afraid that when it says that a Man should not lay with another Man, and a Woman with another Women, well, it can"t be any clearer than that,, BUT, it"s not for any of us to judge and i don"t think it"s any more of a sin ( according to the Bible ), than one that kills another etc. ... 66cherokee, I did post that particular issue yesterday afternoon.
The General was critical of the mismanagement of taxpayers money in the ministry of defense, then he retired and decided to go on to politics and identified himself with the Liberal Party and that's only when the Old Boys pretended to wash the Senate scandal, but there is more around the corner.

Not to worry, the General will start explaining what is going on inside, where the ministers and the elite have infinite amounts of money at their disposition, but a veteran is a disposable piece within the system.

You didn't heard the whole story, yet.

And the General is allowed to that expenditure when relocating, but if the law is not clear toe Duffi, Wallin and others, probably it's not that clear in this case.

When you have a minute, you can elaborate about the legal fees the party had to pay to Mulcair's lawyers, or wasn't.

Oh, what the heck,lol....I found this interesting... The Bible is unique in it"s continuity,, It is the only book that was written over about a fifteen hundred-year span.,,,, Was written by more than 40 authors from every walk of life, including kings, military leaders, peasants, philosophers, fishermen, tax collectors, poets, musicians, statesmen, scholars and sheperds.... For example, Moses was a political leader, trained in the universities of Egypt,,David was a king, poet, musician and a shephard and warrior.....Amous was a herdsman... Daniel was a prime minister... Peter, a fisherman.. the list goes on.... The Bible was also written in different times, years and on different continents.. Asia, Africa and Europe, and was written in three languages,, Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. The Old Testament was in the first two while the New Teatament was in Greek. The point i"m trying to make is that some of these Men did"t know each other but the Bible all comes together as a whole... The Old proclaims the New and vise versa. Take the writings of Daniel, they come to life in the Book of Revelation written by John. To me,, it just proves that it, The Bible, was guided by the hand of God and to this day, it"s still the no. one book that hasn"t been able to be taken out of circulation.... just saying......

I would argue that... but...

... taking it the other way, does that mean that if a homosexual is the macho side of the pair, he's free and clear ? ... because he's not effeminate.

.... and then you throw lesbians into the mix, which the Bible doesn't mention.

You see it gets confusing when we try to judge when we have no right to judge.

The golden rule is the only one I bother with.

True blasphemy is when one witnesses a miracle performed by God or Jesus (the trinity) and then denies it happened or that the miracle happened through the use of evil and not the good of the holy spirit.
So pretty safe to say that most folks don't have to worry about that one.....

I doubt God used the word effeminate... or homosexual.

Just ignore the ones that upset you, they only do it to get a rise outa you and think that it makes themselves look big in the others eyes,,, not worth making a holy show of yourself,lol... The bible, like fly stated, was passed on through oral tradition. A 1000 page document, written piecemeal, at differing times, passed on through word of mouth, wouldn't even stand up in a court of law if it was passed on from last week.

You mentioned earlier today, 6000 transcribed versions of the bible (I'll take your word for that), with similar meanings, or some such thing. (You are aware that the printing press has only been around for 600 years) From Greek to Latin to English and a multitude of other languages. As each layer of translation is added, meaning goes awry.

The Bible is too wide open for interpretation. Therefore, it is used for improper justification of committing other so-called sins.

Oh, and the gay couples you speak of, who live relatively normal lives, do so because others have stood up to society's prejudices. The battle for acceptance had a price and still does. Those who live in peace, do so because others have fought the fight for them. And the struggle continues, obviously.

For Big Brother

You stated “A 1000 page document, written piecemeal, at differing times, passed on through word of mouth, wouldn't even stand up in a court of law if it was passed on from last week.”

Apparently the Supreme Court of Canada disagrees with your view and the value of a document passed on through word of mouth. I cite this decision from the appeal of the Delgamuukw v. British Columbia case:

“On appeal, the Goatskin and Wet’suwet’en won a precedent-setting victory for oral history to be given weight as legal evidence. Chief Justice Lamar of the Supreme Court of Canada concluded,

“The laws of evidence must be adapted in order that [oral] evidence can be accommodated and placed on an equal footing with the types of historical evidence that courts are familiar with, which largely consists of historical documents.”

While the decision has been clarified by other decisions, the acceptance of oral history is for the moment a concept of Canadian jurisprudence.

BIG BROTHER 2/17/2014 8:40:26 PM Report

Thanks for the info Prometheus. Look into oral evidence that is a couple of hundred years old. Most of the Bible was written hundreds of years after the death of Jesus. Therefore, by word of mouth, passed on from generation to generation. Much was written under duress of clerical despots, church leaders, who were, in many cases, more powerful than the politicians of the day. The Bible is a very nice story, but it's validity to base mortal moral judgement on any group or value set is somewhat ridiculous.

Homosexuality was promoted in Greek/Roman civilizations. Loyalty to your fellow warrior was an asset. Also, the far and distant reaches of their empire required soldiers to be away from home for very long periods of time. Warriors in their prime, physically and sexually were kept satiated sexually through homosexual relationships.

Bobby Nerves 2/17/2014 9:04:47 PM Report

BB, I'll not go into the Bible thing because is not my interest, neither would I mix the religion in the issue because then we can not have a dialog about the issue.

Your assumption about the army and the rest about soldiers is very much an imagination.

You are an articulate person and you know that homosexuality is not a choice in the way some people repeat as a parrot. An homosexual is born homosexual, his sexual preference is dictated by the chromosomes and not for the itching in the sphincter. Now, this is basically what is know till now, but only now and in the last, say, 5 or 10 years, the scientific community started to explore in a different way.
From my corner, and I may be punish for saying it, but an homosexual has as much of a choice to be as a kid or a girl may have a choice of Down syndrome.

In any circumstance, an homosexual is a human like you and me and should not be persecuted for such a condition. The rest is all open to discussion, but if we part from that line, that is not a preference, or a choice, but rather something on what there is no choice or election, then we can explore all the options.

When I was young, we had few professors who were homosexual and for the tenor of the studies at one point or another we had to discuss the issue and it was middle 1960, it was clear then that the chromosome dictated homosexuality, but still I can't understand the difference of passive and active pederasty and homosexuality in general, but I suspect that's where the environment and the psychological aspects play an important role.

I don't know how you did arrive to the conclusion about soldiers and homosexuality, but it will be interesting that you explore the arab world preference of camels over dogs and sheep.

Gurpy, what you said about people getting better and the government losing money makes no sense.

The government spends millions on drugs for seniors and people on social assistance.

If someone were to say here's something that is proven to work and is cheap, safe and lets the have a good quality of life then they would jump all over that.

The fact of the matter is, it may work for you, but for 99% of others it doesn't.

Have you ever seen what the meds for Fibromyalgia cost?

Let's just say a month is usually over $100.

I can tell you that if the government could say "Here's an Herbal supplement that works excellent and we have data to prove it" that would be done in a heartbeat.

It's cheaper than the Rx alternatives. There is no government conspiracy. Simply put, Herbals & Holistic medicine are not regulated, their purity can vary drastically, and bottom line is no doctor should ever recommend them. There is no way of monitoring for interactions with other Rx drugs.
BIG BROTHER 2/17/2014 9:15:55 PM Report

Very well said. And I agree wholeheartedly. It is basically what I have been saying.

Much is written about the Greek/Roman warriors. Homosexuality was not discouraged in those civilizations. Historians pretty much agree with one another. Of course, the predisposition would have to exist, but there certainly was little prejudice aimed at homosexual behaviour. Another social condition was that women were considered less on the social scale. Men found it more satisfying to have sexual relations with a peer than with a lesser being, or female.
Bobby Nerves 2/17/2014 9:18:11 PM Report

BB, the perverted greeks promoted pederasty more than homosexuality. Aristotle, Plato, Socrates all perverted.

The Roman Empire promoted homosexuality? Please BB, Romans carried orgies that lasted weeks at the time, drinking, eating and vomiting, then eating again and having sex with two, three and six women at the same time.
No only the ancient Romans but also is the case of the Teutonic race, they protected their children, and that was not the case of the greeks who were as I said and repeat, a bunch of perverted dirty old bunch of illuminated.
BIG BROTHER 2/17/2014 9:26:00 PM Report

The Greeks and Romans promoted homosexual behaviour in their soldiers for the reasons I've already mentioned. I realize that chromosomal conditions would likely jurisdict the situation, but as you've already stated, the psychological/emotional factors that may exist.

As for the orgy's, today we would equate that lifestyle with a lack of respect for women. Homosexual behaviour doesn't preclude heterosexual behaviours. Bi-sexuality is common-place in society's of all ages.
Bobby Nerves 2/17/2014 9:42:22 PM Report

BB, look at what is history, we use the arabic numerical, right?

Well, mathematics and geometry was very well mastered in India long before the arabs, Petite Voleuse, stole the knowledge from that civilizations, then in modern days we know it as the arabic system.

The problem with the religion, mostly Christian religions of all sort, (as I see it) have been adapted to fit the needs of emperors, kings, queens, dictators and other sort of powerful people. Alexander the Great was in need of a kind of religion, but a flexible one in order to roll over the Ottoman influence, then Christianism was something useful to him. Remember that in the beginning christians were persecuted and it was mostly practice in secrecy and in my opinion, Jesus of Nazareth wasn't in the beginning the son of God in the way we know today, but rather the savior of his people and probably that connection with God father wasn't transcendental as it is today. In my opinion, there is no difference in the meaning of the existence between Jesus of Nazareth, Mahatma Gandhi, Napoleon Bonaparte, Adolf Hitler or Che Guevara.

The only difference is the time, the needs of the people at the time and the billions of dollars that Jesus generates as royalties.

Add a bit of wine, incense, fancy cloths and you can make yourself some money.

There is no better business in this world and the next, that own a church, be a preacher, pastor, priest or whatever, but the more independent they let you, the better.

I'm radical and archaic in my beliefs, I pray in latin and sing the Kyrie, the Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei. But if I were a priest, my arrangement with God, should be like this: At the end of every day I deposit all the money in a basket, swing it upwards as high as I can and all the money that God can catch in the air are for him and all that money that falls on the flour is for me?

I'm against the Pope as Administrator.

Hold the horses with that of orgies. I had many ladies around me that I forgot already and I had a lot of respect for ladies. I live in monogamy since more than 20 years now and I'm OK with it. Regarding by-sexuality is common in "some" societies more than another.

The hippies era just happens in USA and maybe here in Canada, but I've only read about it. Promiscuity, multiple partners, drugs and all that, you can't attribute it to every society. I know more than one or two and that's not the rule and if it happens it's more part of the underworld.

I don't like it, it's repugnant to my principles, but neither do I like the snow, and the cold, and I stand it, but I'll have a big argument if my neighbor shovel the snow over my driveway.

Now now kids, leave the Bible lovers alone. They need something to believe in, and they have decided a book of exaggerated stories that have been rewritten over and over and over again ( they your research) is what gets them thru life. I love Bible thumpers. They tell the world how they practice what the " Good Book tells them to practic"- peace, love and good will to all men. That is unless said men are gay or non Christian or against anything they believe in. Then they want said men punished-even killed-for being non believers. All hail the loving being who wants to KILL those they dislike. I am always amused how these same ppl accuse the gay men of corrupting children. Yet more molestation happens from good religious men such as priests. And that is ok as a few prayers and POOF all is better. Until said men molest again. Gay partnerships with children don't molest. In fact they raise children to be tolerant....something our Bible worshipers are incapable of doing.
