Off to work to support stats and the rest of the Libs. They would die if they had to spend their own money to support people.
Grump 2/14/2014 6:07:41 AM Report

Good morning everyone. Nice to see Wisen is still living in la la land and I don't mean Florida. It seems Flaherty may be the next one going under the bus as Harper and senior Ministers delivered a good part of the budget which is not only extremely rude but almost unheard of. Rex Murphy on the National said Harper is not much of a history buff or he would remember what the Chretien/Martin breakup did for the Liberals. The games being played out between the senior ministers jockeying to replace Harper seems to be pretty well out in the open with these Minister making public statements differing from Harper's. Let the games begin. Have a great day everyone.
Jimssm 2/14/2014 6:38:56 AM Report

Steely...

If you've ever worked at Essar/Algoma, Stats and Fly and rw and Grump (and even Wisen) have supported YOU with their tax dollars.

Good Friday morning all

Grump .. don't take this the wrong way but.. it never ceases to amaze me how the first thing out of your mouth ( and the mouths of others)on here is politics. The last thing on my mind is that stuff. I guess I boogie to the beat of a totally different drummer :) And I do just fine. Have a great weekend kids. I'm sure someone will be in later to stir up the "cat sh*t" in your sandbox

Well done Jimssm. I almost forgot, Happy Valentine's day to all, particularly you Ladies who have put up with us for so long. I'll bet you girls started off thinking that you were going to change this or that about us eh? Well girls don't despair because most of us are at least walking upright. Have a wonderful day all. I have a light day so I'll be back to keep all you neo-cons up to date with the latest Harper incompetence and major screw ups. Ta ta till then.
Javaman 2/14/2014 6:55:13 AM Report

Well...the Liberals lost BOTH by-elections in Ontario yesterday. I guess Wynne is now a loser .Bring on an election soon.
Grump 2/14/2014 6:59:33 AM Report

nanag good morning and happy Valentine's Day to you my dear. Have a great day. Sorry about all the politics but our Country is going down the drain with this government and someone needs to keep their incompetence, lies and total disregard for average Canadian's front and centre. Don't you be fooling around on those washers and dryers and such. lol
Grump 2/14/2014 7:07:10 AM Report

Javaman Yes the Liberals in Ontario screwed up but we don't deserve Hudak with his right to work legislation so that most can have Wall Mart type jobs or the Dippers giving away what we don't have. I honestly don't know what happened with Dalton other than him likely losing control. That said Wynne has a handle on the mess she inherited so seems the best bet for now. IMHO

Happy birthday to a person that did a lot for Ontario, still does and deserves a very Happy Birthday Mayor Hazel McCallion of Mississauga.

Bu Bye, Kathleen Wynne.
right wing 2/14/2014 8:36:13 AM Report

Byelections have a way of sending exactly the right message to political parties.

In this case, they're saying to Wynne and her Liberals that we're fed up.

I feel an election coming....bu-bye Winnie and your pooh...
theprotector 2/14/2014 8:49:33 AM Report

so let me get this straight, because niagra flipped from liberal to ndp and Thornhill remained conservative the swampers think its the end of the Liberals provincially? BAHAHAHAHA!!!
Wild Turkey 2/14/2014 8:50:27 AM Report

@RW and Wise---Wynne gone--who then?
Budster 2/14/2014 8:59:32 AM Report

Ont. is screwed because we don't have an alternative to only a one horse race. Federally the other two are worse than what we have and the same thing applies provincially. Just hope we get replacements in before the Vaseline runs out.
Javaman 2/14/2014 9:02:46 AM Report

Ontario is not ready for the NDP again. HUDAK scares many people with his policies and has not even have the full support of his party as a leader. That will allow Wynne to sneak up the middle between these two parties and squeak out a another minority government. It is sad to think that the Liberals....after all they have done to us...are the best choice going forward. Of course IMHO.
flyhawk25 2/14/2014 9:10:52 AM Report

If I were a betting man I'd bet: a)that Wynne stays on as leader; b)the NDP forms a minority with the Liberals.
Unless the Tories can Hudak then all bets are off.

Nothing to worry about.

theprotector 2/14/2014 9:22:48 AM Report

good we agree on something.
right wing 2/14/2014 9:29:47 AM Report

What I find more interesting is that the total vote count for both riding's is as follows:

P.C. - 26,961
Liberal - 18,735
NDP - 16,422

The P.C.'s lost in Niagara by 962 votes.
Those that are easily dismissing the Conservatives and Hudak out of forming a minority government with the Liberals might be in for another shocker....

Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

You have to be careful with what you wish in Ontario, because I see an N... deep... peep ... floating in your timmy this morning.

Grump 2/14/2014 9:49:52 AM Report

Wisen and rw never mind the Provincial story we all know what happened and will vote as we want. I want to know what your feeble excuses are for 1 Harper breaking another election promise (income splitting). 2 What is he doing about an open revolt in his senior caucus. 3 Why is Flaherty being thrown under the bus or does Steve not need a reason anymore. 4 the Senate scandal is not anywhere near dead as Wisen predicted. 5 We are getting muted signals from Flaherty re income splitting, Negative signals from Harper and positive signals from Kenny and several other ministers. 6 Have the wheels finally come off the bus or is this just another fine example of extremely incompetent leadership? Come on boys lets discuss the current mess in our Federal government. I also want to remind you two no BS fantasy stories will be accepted.
David Poluck 2/14/2014 10:00:41 AM Report

Love you too Bobby!
flyhawk25 2/14/2014 10:14:31 AM Report

When the votes are counted we'll know exactly how the people feel.
Until then it's just wishful thinking from both sides.
But...I'd be surprised if Hudak ever forms a government and really surprised if Harper even survives his own party's wrath.
But that's just wishful thinking.
Politics is often led by optics and images. It often just depends on 'feelings' and not reason so anything is possible.
Sadly for the provincial Tories Hudak's image is not very good in the media. In Harper's case his record is starting to cling to him like a bad odor.
Voters may fear the alternative but in the end most folks will ask themselves - are we better off today than 4 years ago?
Bobby Nerves 2/14/2014 10:26:27 AM Report

Don't get to excited about the elections. The NDP had to pick one election and dump all their resources there. They'd picked Niagara and the Unions cut a lot of cheques and sent more volunteers to Niagara than what we can think about.

They knew they couldn't scratch the surface in Thornhill as it's a majority Jewish community with a large percentage of Acydic jewish and with the last trip of Harper to Israel... do you think anyone else than the cons had a chance there.

You're dreaming.

Now... to win a seat and push an election in Ontario, that's a long distance and now I think the Chrysler demand for government money will have a different taste as the cons are all for it, but the liberals may play a hard one, tell them NO and forget about it. Such a movement will kick hard with both, the NDP and the cons, the first for money from membership and the second for political interest, and money also, of course.

Coalitions is the work of the day, but the Premier shouldn't be there, I agree, but then, who?

I think the Unions collect every day in dues and everything else, around four million dollars. But even with that dough, and the dislike of Ontario about Hudak and the Liberals, they may push, but there is no way they can handle an election and if they do, the cons are for a loss.

We are all fed up and that's not good.

Grump you little Pinocchio. Income splitting was to be in the next budget once it's in surplus.
Flaherty has cooled to the idea because it involves only older, more affluent folks like you. (not much bang for the buck).
But as he indicated last night on CBC he does what he's told.

theprotector 2/14/2014 11:12:55 AM Report

just wait! Voting is not about parties anymore, the conservatives have perm. blurred the lines! Its about who the public likes, its nothing more than a popularity vote. People have not forgotten the Harris legacy. Wynn is a believable strong leader and I think the voting public will support her and support giving her the opportunity to clean things up. The biggest thing hurting the provincial PCs is the federal conservatives. That is an issue that most strategists in the policial arena hate, its touogh to deal with when the leading party federally is botching the country and tanking in the numbers.

Ring of Fire is in an isolated part of our great province. It will take a herculean effort to build a road, let alone a railroad up to it.
The developer doesn't want to put the money into this infrastructure, and neither gov't has the funds right now to do it either.
I don't think the F.N. have anything to do with it, as the route can be planned to by-pass any existing F.N.territory.Resources are a Provincial responsibility, but with the fine state of affairs at the moment nothing is going to happen any time soon.
Meanwhile, let the blame game begin.

Wild Turkey..

I understood there was a railway up to Moosenee, and a winter/ice road up to the villages along the James Bay coast. So the "ring of fire" could be accessed, however the companies need F N permission to mine the area as it is in their reserve lands from what I understand. Now as to why the deal to start the smelter and other issues you would have to talk to the government agencies concerned, but you only need one of the parties concerned to nix it and everything goes south, but I would hazard a guess it is something to do with money!!
