David Poluck 2/6/2014 6:31:24 AM Report

Rise and shine! Thursday starts the weekend!
David Poluck 2/6/2014 6:39:12 AM Report

If anyone is interested this link goes to the preliminary budget presentation from Mondays council meeting.

Grump 2/6/2014 6:54:10 AM Report

Good morning everyone. David thanks for the link. I'll try and get to it this evening. I believe the forecast was back to cool this morning. I can almost guarantee rain, snow or damn cold as I have a load of cherry lumber coming in from Toronto today. Oh! well just dress a lot warmer. Enjoyed lunch yesterday fellows and nice to run into Dutch Touch too. Have a great day all.
dust2 2/6/2014 8:08:36 AM Report

my time here is over. was fun, this place kind of got sad when I heard about someone here showing up to fight a girl at the dump.

it's like arguing with a downie. it's sad right from the start.

right wing 2/6/2014 8:28:29 AM Report

So Justin Trudeau is suddenly experiencing what it's like to be a real politician with the media.
He dodged a follow-up question the other day about why he initially defended Harb’s expense claims and whether his office verified Harb’s claims.
It was more than obvious the shiny pony didn't like these kind of questions...
He also didn't respond how his senator trick will look if any of the other Liberal Senators get charged.
BIG BROTHER 2/6/2014 8:35:23 AM Report

No Senator trick. Just honesty!! Trudeau didn't appoint Harb and no leader should be covering for any Senator.

Harper should follow suit, but it's not his style (as if he has any). Control freak is his style.
theprotector 2/6/2014 8:41:17 AM Report

agreed BB
David Poluck 2/6/2014 8:47:36 AM Report

Let's get ready to ruuuuuumbbbbllleee!
Right Wing comes out of the corner and throws a serious right..BB counters with a flurry of pro is in the corner urging BB on!

In other news...

In Canada last year, bilingualism declined for the first time in 40 years. Just 17.5 per cent of the population reports being able to speak both English and French, according to Statistics Canada.

Endangered species ????
right wing 2/6/2014 9:24:30 AM Report

...another victim of climate change???
learningaswego 2/6/2014 9:37:14 AM Report

I think watching the usual "political pundits" on CTV the other night just about says it all about the anti-Harper crusade in most of the media.

When referring to the Prime Minister of Canada, they simply said "Harper", and with a noticeable sneer. Not PM Harper, not Stephen Harper, etc.

When they talked about the leader of the Liberal Party, they lovingly referred to him as "Justin". Not Trudeau, not Justin Trudeau....but "Justin" as if they were all best buds.

That, I thought, just about said it all.

Easy to see what the media will be doing as far as their objectivity for the next election.
fatafr 2/6/2014 9:50:39 AM Report

Someone sent this to me. I thought I'd share it with you.

Someone please tell me what is wrong with all the people that run this country!!!

CONSERVATIVES & LIBERALS, say "We're "broke" and can't help our own

In the last few years we have provided direct cash aid to:
Hamas - 351 M,
Pakistan- 2 B,
Libya 1.45 B,
Egypt- 397 M,
Mexico- 622 M,
Russia- 380 M,
Haiti- 1.4 B,
Jordan- 463 M,
Kenya- 816 M,
Sudan- 870 M,
Nigeria- 456 M,
Uganda- 451 M,
Congo- 359 M,
Ethiopia- 981 M,
South Afrika- 566 M,
Senegal- 698 M,
Mozambique- 404 M,
Zambia- 331 M,
Kazakhstan- 304 M,
Iraq- 1.08 B,
Tanzania- 554 M,

With literally Billions and they still hate us! In total Canada spends over 5 Billion a year on direct cash support of foreign aid, and 20 Billion on Immigration & Refugee programs
Our retired seniors are living on a 'fixed income'. Do they get any breaks while our government and religious organizations pour hundreds of billions and tons of food to foreign countries!

We have hundreds of adoptable children who are shoved aside to make room for the adoption of foreign orphans.

AUSTRALIA, UK, THE USA & CANADA - countries where we have homeless person, children going to bed hungry, elderly going without needed medication and mentally ill without treatment... Etc.

YET- We still allow illegals & other free loaders on our shores, while we are lining up with food, clothes, bedding, doctors and medical supplies for them.
Imagine if the "GOVERNMENT" gave 'US' the same support they give to other countries.

Sad isn't it?

right wing 2/6/2014 9:55:05 AM Report

This one has been floating around the internet for a long time.
I've seen it altered to fit different countries.
Might be interesting to see if those numbers and matching countries could be verified as fact.
Left Winger 2/6/2014 10:10:22 AM Report

no worries rw

he is just grandstanding due to it being an municipal election year....perhaps he can come up with an original idea of his own...highly unlikely though
Big Bad Bob 2/6/2014 10:10:36 AM Report

The quality of today's debating is lousy, but it least the issues are Canadian.
As for fatafar's submission,I am obliged to be honest and go along with right wing. Amazing! Who would have believed that we could ever be on the same wavelength about anything?
DutchTouch 2/6/2014 10:15:53 AM Report

Nice surprise to catch "The Three Wisemen" aka Grump, Bobby and Flyhawk as they were leaving one of my favourite eateries at lunch time yesterday. Friends meeting friends makes life a bit more interesting.
redranger 2/6/2014 10:20:44 AM Report

Gonna be empty in here. D2 is gone, Shake is going to Hawaii and I am leaving for Orlando tomorrow.
Who is going to protect my friend Grump?
Oh yah, SQ will handle that. Carry on.
flyhawk25 2/6/2014 10:32:19 AM Report

Slow news day I guess.
So much sound and fury from the swamp over nothing.
We get it.
Harper good. Trudeau bad.The economy's fine, there is no climate change or environmental messes.
Life is good in the swamp.
flyhawk25 2/6/2014 10:34:31 AM Report

Dutchy...lovely to see you as well.Sorry I couldn't stay but I had to run to the car before Grump changed his mind about paying the bill.
right wing 2/6/2014 10:52:23 AM Report

I must have missed that episode of The Three about an oxymoron, the three stooges staring as the three wise men.
right wing 2/6/2014 10:53:23 AM Report

Don't it feel good to be right!
right wing 2/6/2014 10:55:24 AM Report

Of course there is such a thing as climate change.
Get yourself a lawn chair and sit outside around the beginning of April and you can witness it all on your own.
Make sure to bring a camera, ya don't want to miss such a phenomenon.
Snobank 2/6/2014 10:57:20 AM Report

Sounds like rw was left (out).
Jimssm 2/6/2014 10:59:02 AM Report

I agree with rw and the others.... get your own material and have the guts to sign your name to it.

This email is very old and indicates the cumulative payments over many years by at least 4 countries.

I especially like the 'they still hate us' comment. As someone who works on the ground with aid organizations overseas, I can assure you there is very little hate towards Canada (at the present time).
And I hope you are not so shallow as to think our foreign aid's purpose is to 'buy their love'.

p.s.... what country is 'hamas' ?
flyhawk25 2/6/2014 11:11:28 AM Report

The king of the swamp is itching for a fight.
The best is that we did not speak about him at all.Why waste our time - after all we are wise.
I'm sure his cohorts will jump on the lily pads to join in the hymn of praise to Harper.
The cold swamp water makes them unusually delusional.
right wing 2/6/2014 11:13:59 AM Report

Please, never use the word left and "rw" in the same sentence...oh, the horror, the horror.

Bobby Nerves 2/6/2014 11:15:09 AM Report

The last one from The Register:

What is "the swamp".

A place where the cons are born, feed and grow till they transform again in methane gas. Plenty of frogs, crocks, and vermin.

Pinko flamingos will stay away from these infected place all over the world.

There is methane gas and moonshine in there also.

Wild Turkey 2/6/2014 11:15:28 AM Report

I just got that same list of aid recipients in my mail----must be going around. There are many other countries, that receive "aid" that are not on the list at all.It makes me wonder why an alderman would want to concern himself with such things. The only thing that could possibly concern him , is the collection of flags down at city hall. There is not one flag from Africa,in that display. The majority of countries on "the List" are African. Is Alderman Fata about to suggest we get more flags down there to appear more inclusive? After all, there are many students from various African countries attending our University, and College.
right wing 2/6/2014 11:16:38 AM Report

Well if that is all it takes to make it your "best part", feel free to not talk about me as much as you like.
You know, like you just did....

You're welcome.
Bobby Nerves 2/6/2014 11:21:54 AM Report

Me think, fatafr knows as well as we do the meaning of that message.
Do not chase him away, let him jump in our own field, let's befriend him and have him very close to us...

Then it'll be much easier to stab him!

You people can't take a joke?
T-rat 2/6/2014 11:36:01 AM Report

rw: yes, young Trudeau is gaining experience as a politician, with the media, and is learning how to dodge questions.

I once had occasion to spend a lot of time with John Snobelen, former Tory provincial cabinet minister, and he was a master at this. He explained that politicians had to be in delivering in public the 'non sequitur' of responses, and to be able to do so while smiling mockingly at the questioner.

That being said, Trudeau may be learning, but he has a long way to go before he becomes as deft at dodging questions as Harper.
steelworker 2/6/2014 11:41:26 AM Report

learningaswego: you must have missed the CTV coverage of the last Federal election. If the Liberals were leading in a riding by a few votes it was "a massive lead over the Conservative Party"; if the Liberals were being crushed the riding was "up for grabs and too close to call". It was fun to watch Craig Oliver and the rest of the hacks try to sway the vote in favour of the Libs. When it was all over and the Conservatives were declared the winners poor old Oliver almost had a seizure and fell off his chair.
right wing 2/6/2014 11:45:31 AM Report

...I know and Justin gets asked all the hard questons.

CBC reporter - Justin, Justin, so what type of fluff do you like the best...

Justin Trudeau - Well you know, the real kind, the type of fluff that you can really count on as a soft spot to lay your head.

CBC reporter - Well there you have it folks, when it comes to the fluff...Justin Trudeau really knows his stuff!
right wing 2/6/2014 11:48:57 AM Report

Awwww, come on...Craig Oliver is not a die hard Liberal supporter is least not as much as that Lloyd Robertson remember him, the guy that used to wear his dads cowboy boots.

ferrets, thats all that needs to be said about harper...ferrets
steelworker 2/6/2014 11:56:27 AM Report

Just watch Question Period on CTV. Craig gathers up four or five Liberal apologists and they spend half an hour slamming Harper and the Conservatives and praising Trudeau like he was the Second Coming.
flyhawk25 2/6/2014 12:09:44 PM Report

Well kids we've had plenty of the first coming and you are all doing a lovely job of worrying about Trudeau Lite.
Relax. The election's way off and your guy is a lock.
Mr. Poster 2/6/2014 12:11:24 PM Report

Do not count Harper out in the next election. His sidekick Flarehty will be coming up with several goodies to get your vote. Isn't that what politics is all about?
Wisenheimer 2/6/2014 12:19:59 PM Report

RedRanger .. The internet works from all over!
Hunter101 2/6/2014 12:25:17 PM Report

I'm about as relaxed as can be.

Except when you lefties hate on Harper, you fail to realize that the person who is true right wing knows that Harper isn't that great. He's not bad, but by no means great. He's way better than his competition though, that's why he's going to get the vote next election. He also doesn't have a big mouth like both Mulcair and Trudeau Lite.

All Harper has to do is sit back and let the Liberal and NDP leaders open their mouths. That alone will lock in his victory.
Wisenheimer 2/6/2014 12:28:05 PM Report

Mr.P .. that would be "Flaherty".
The goodies will include a balanced budget, new rules for income splitting and no new taxes, which will make the left turn purple.
This, along with the re-distribution of riding seats and "Elroy Jetson" leading the Liberals, will ensure a P.C. victory in the next election.
right wing 2/6/2014 12:32:19 PM Report

Good show chap...
I do believe that is one of your best posts and I completely agree with your take on it.
Mr. Poster 2/6/2014 12:34:15 PM Report

Maybe Harper will announce cost of living added to all government senior pensions .
learningaswego 2/6/2014 12:34:55 PM Report

Turdeau - unscripted, in front of a microphone - is every opposition politician's dream come true.

During the next election when he can't be protected from himself, he will deliver in spades - for those opposing.
Even the media's love-in with him and daily promotion of the Millionaire ManChild Who Wants to be King - won't be enough.

Next election, when voters get a REAL look at what an empty suit and even emptier head young Turdeau really is; result will be Tommy MuleCar will keep a lock on second place; with Turdeau a close third.
BIG BROTHER 2/6/2014 12:37:06 PM Report

You apparently wouldn't know a lie if it smacked you in the face.

Trudeau wasn't lying. He has given each of the liberal senators freedom to follow their conscience, something which never used to have to be said, till Harper came along.

Far from a lie, just good policy. Too bad dumdum didn't think of it. He probably did, but would be afraid of the rats jumping ship, ala Hugh Segal, who, upon departure, had little nice to say about Harper.
right wing 2/6/2014 12:37:07 PM Report

Just so all of you conservatives have got it correct any time you talk about any of the other party leaders you are "worried", O.K., good, cause flyhawk says so...and I don't want to make one of the "wise men" look unwise.

steelworker, yah that was priceless. It was just so much fun to watch the CTV "pundits" squirm like the worms they are, as the results came in. Some of them could hardly contain their disappointment - such is their lot of so-called "journalists".

Imagine - Canadian VOTERS deciding who gets elected, instead of the media's picks!!

They'll no doubt be ramping up the anti-Harper, Trudeau is the second coming campaign for the next election.
The so-called "journalist" on the other night pretty much couldn't contain her sneer in having to utter the name "Harper", and followed that with..."When I met with "Justin" the other day..."

Maybe they don't even try to hide it anymore.

66cherokee 2/6/2014 3:00:11 PM Report

The only reason that Justin Trudeau kicked the Liberal Senators out of caucus is because he's scared of what the senate audit is going to be. It doesn't matter who made them senators they are still Liberal Senators at the time of audit. Does Justin think that by doing this he can say "they are not Liberal Senators", they still call themselves Liberals except it's just a change of name. They now call themselves "independent Liberal Senators." It doesn't matter how you put it, they are still Liberals.

But, Trudeau is trying to avoid association with potential Senate scandal.

You have an answer for everything. It just so happens that you do not make an ounce of sense. That Rush/Levant logic is rubbing off though. You are displaying great potential as having swallowed the whole kool-aid jug and all.

Gee time goes fast doesn't it?
flyhawk25 2/6/2014 6:08:18 PM Report

I am not a day over seventy madam. I think. But I just cannot remember.
I had to endure the razz from Bobby over my yellow discount fleece top from Value Village until Grump admitted that he used to shop there until he strangled an obnoxious staffer for denying him a senior's discount. The man has some anger issues apparently.
right wing 2/6/2014 6:10:17 PM Report

Big Bro

Thank you.
It is reassuring to me when you state that I don't make an ounce of sense to you.
It validates that I am of sound mind, see things clearly and have great judgment.
Carry on pal.

flyhawk25 2/6/2014 6:21:23 PM Report

Whew...whatever is being passed around in the swamp today must be dandy stuff.
Apparently it makes the head amphib ten feet tall, bullet-proof and delusional.
Hunter101 2/6/2014 6:22:26 PM Report

I'll carry on for him rw lol.

Have you ever heard one of these climate change morons ever explain what the CO2 is doing to raise global temperatures? Me either.
right wing 2/6/2014 6:23:15 PM Report

So whats with pedophiles always popping up amongst teachers and priests...
Hunter101 2/6/2014 6:24:36 PM Report

BB, I was referring to Trudeau, not rw.

rw has more intelligence on a bad day than you on your best day with the wind to your back.
right wing 2/6/2014 6:25:51 PM Report

Wouldn't be a complete day without the master and his lap dog ringing in....
shakespeare 2/6/2014 6:30:00 PM Report

Hunter: welcome to the world of lapdoggery! rw has been waiting since Grace left and became a Liberal.
BIG BROTHER 2/6/2014 6:39:06 PM Report

Wow......thanks for straightening that out Hunter.

And, as for your vote of confidence, well, I'll let your words speak for themselves. Just wow...seems like you and rw have each others backs....lots of wind there.
Bobby Nerves 2/6/2014 6:42:36 PM Report

DT: Early half (1900 to 1950) I'm not allowed to even hint.

I said it to you, Fly, yellow is positive.
Bobby Nerves 2/6/2014 6:48:04 PM Report

Fly, that yellow top looks like Harry Rosen to me.
right wing 2/6/2014 6:49:23 PM Report

Hey opinions are free to give...
No solicitation done or needed from this corner.
This ten foot tall, bullet-proof amphib can stand all on his own.

...but anyway, thanks Hunter, and he's upset cause your correct.

Hey redranger...notice the "n" on the dam.....
Grump 2/6/2014 7:13:02 PM Report

rw If your wife ever finds out you are the head Red Neck of the Motley Crew, I suspect you will get straightened up tout suite. I was going to say that the Harper Gov't have finally got a decent piece of legislation ready to pass (maybe). The new Immigration bill has some good things in it, So my question is why in the hell did it take these law and order heroes so long to do something that is good for Canada and will save money and legal hassles?
Wild Turkey 2/6/2014 7:15:58 PM Report

@Flyhawk at 6:08----Now that's funny----I've never met you, but yellow fleece?I pictured Tan Corduroy, you know the one's with the brown suede on the elbows? And Grump with apparent anger mgmt. issues? No way!!!!!!
Grump 2/6/2014 7:17:28 PM Report

Bounder, Thanks for the offer but I don't think your Ford Ranger would pull the loaded tri axle with my cherry lumber and ply on it. If I ever need a couple of boxes of tooth picks I'll let you know.
Grump 2/6/2014 7:21:19 PM Report

Wild Turkey, Old Fly is pretty slippery. He tossed me the bill and ran out of the restaurant, jumped into his car and was gone in a heartbeat. It sure surprised me that anyone that old could move that damn fast, lol
lookaround 2/6/2014 7:23:17 PM Report

Through all the drivel and drool today I have come to the conclusion Harper is good, Trudeau is bad. Trudeau will spend us into a deficit and a deep deep debt. Trudeau or Justin Lite can't keep that cute face straight because he will lie to us and never tell the truth. Oh and even though the Law of Thermodynamics, can you all say T-H-E-R-M-O D-Y-N-A-M-I-C-S is a part of what the physical world is about green house gases and global warming are as fictional as me getting a tax break from Harper.

Oh wait I was dreaming and looking at the truth Harper is bad and he has spent us into a deficit and a BIG debt and he lied to us about transparency and what the hell do you think happens to the earth when carbon, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide etc is spewed out into the atmosphere??????

Trudeau will be PM..a troll told me so
Grump 2/6/2014 7:24:19 PM Report

Hey Dutch Touch, see I'm doing my best to not call them a bunch of dunb a**ed red neck twits and it's not easy. By the way you looked pretty smart the other day.
flyhawk25 2/6/2014 7:26:22 PM Report

Bobby...Harry Rosen?
I knew Harry's daughter Gelda.Actually in the biblical sense.
Anyway Gelda was a very healthy woman but when I insisted that she convert she thought it was to Ralph Lauren and I knew our relationship was going into the swamp.
You see the results.Plant a maroon you get a maroon.
Grump 2/6/2014 7:30:36 PM Report

lookaround, for a moment there girl you had me on the ropes. That said I had to know you were joking as you seem far too bright to be taken in by one or more of Harper's lies. If you would like to get an idea of how often he has lied just google "Harper's lies"
shakespeare 2/6/2014 7:34:31 PM Report

Grump: yes the Immigration Bill has its points but I was sent a preview of some of the new questions. Here is a sample:

1. If you had a son born in Canada, would you name him
a. Stephen
b. Thomas
c. Justin

2. Would your news source of choice be
a. CBC
b. Fox
c. CTV

3. If you were given these three colours, which would you choose?
a. red
b. orange
c. blue

4. Are you
a. heterosexual
b. homosexual (not that there's anything wrong with it)
c. bi-sexual (that's O.K. too ... really!)

5. Do you believe that climate change is

a. part of a Liberal plot
b. a real worldwide issue
c. something that Canada can take a lead role in.

Grump 2/6/2014 7:34:47 PM Report

Fly you really are a fast old devil. I'm going to have to watch the company I keep before I'm corrupted. lol
Grump 2/6/2014 7:38:32 PM Report

Come on Shakespeare you can't blame Steve for trying to get a little traction at the polls on this one. He screwed up all the others so give the poor inept, incompetent control freak a break. lol
Bobby Nerves 2/6/2014 7:51:28 PM Report

I know H. Rosen is involved with the Princess Margaret and Toronto General Foundations, they were doing very well for the time I've been there.
Bobby Nerves 2/6/2014 8:11:19 PM Report

I think the reform to the immigration law is only to help people like Clement. Very suspicious, triple citizenship and he has changed his name from Antonikis Panayioristakis to Tony Clement.

Of course, they write the law to fit their needs.
lookaround 2/6/2014 8:25:39 PM Report

Hunter101 think think and remember if you took that is you perhaps would stop keyboard tapping and understand that all oxides form large particles with ozonating molecules, Now understand this: CO2 and methane gas( the swampers contribution,,yes you Hunter101) are transparent to short wave radiation (UV-ultra violet) from the Sun (you know that sunburn) BUT absorb the longer wavelengths (infrared--heat from your stove) that is emitted from the earth. Absorb this for a pun intended.......okay then whew burning carbon or FOSSIL FUELS produces CO2 -(carbon dioxide) that is one carbon and two oxygens. Take your time. Breathe slowly. Let's continue. Slowly, Okay continuing now..this CO2 forms a layer because it is a particulate (ever have your emissions test?), Now that long wavelength (infra-red) or heat energy cannot escape the atmosphere. That heat becomes trapped and thus warming the earth, Whew. I hope that clears the fog between the ears.
lookaround 2/6/2014 8:28:16 PM Report

I tried to simplify my science class for you. There are many more factors which are far and foremost too drawn-out for the scope of said intellectuals.
lookaround 2/6/2014 8:38:53 PM Report

Hunter101 one word of advice I am not a moron. Got that. Good. But you are trying,,no wait wait,,let me rephrase this as gently as WE all on here can, your attempt at being a moron has succeeded perfectly.
A gold star for you. Now carry on.
mallet 2/6/2014 8:55:01 PM Report

I love your explaination, of how CO2 causes global warming and the experts today say it is man made. Now if I am to accept that as pure fact, how do we (i really mean you) explain the lush artic area roamed over by wooly mammoths before the last ice age. Who or what caused the last ice age to form. It could not have been man made, nor could the conditions before it. Could it have been natural warming and cooling?? All the woolies passing gas (methane)?? I do not know, I will accept that there is some climate change, I just have certain reservations when people start to make a lot of noise and then money beating some drums. I would ask you also, the MNR lets large areas of forest burn, the official wording is "Observing" when it poses no danger to life or property, but does the smoke not pollute?
bounder 2/6/2014 10:10:07 PM Report

well let me know as the diesel does pull more than that little GMC of yours.
right wing 2/7/2014 9:17:00 AM Report

I'd also love for lookaround to explain volcanic activity and the fact that one eruption releases about ten years worth of C02.
Well he's at it can he also explain how vapour is the NUMBER ONE cause of a greenhouse affect.
