Good morning everyone, I see we are blessed with dust even at 4 am. We sure must be living right to be that lucky. So dust where are you supposedly employed? It must be a great job when you can be wandering aimlessly around at 4 am? I could be wrong but every time I read one of your posts my B.S. detector goes off. Have a great day everyone.

Good to see our efforts last year were not in vein and we now have time to review the preliminary budget leading to interaction with our council representatives.
We are making arrangements this week for a place to meet next week for a breakdown of the material provided so that good discussions can happen.
Having the preliminary budget two months before the vote is a big deal.

Remember a while back we were discussing the origin of the name "Finn Hill"
Thanks to Kevin at the public library we have an answer..thanks Kevin!

Hello David

I have the answer to your origin of Finn Hill question. In 1858 the Crown sold the property to a Edward Borin and in 1915 a lumber contractor by the name of Victor Wainio purchased the property. The name Finn Hill came about because the man was of Finnish decent, from him the property passed on to his son Eero Wainio. So since the property was held by the family for such a long period of time the name Finn Hill simply stuck.

I hope this helps you out

Thank You

Kevin

Had I attempted to utter nearly as much NONSENSE and RUDE remarks as you do, I would`ve been bruised, toothless and possibly missing a few limbs after being CORRECTED by my parents who DISCIPLINED and taught me RIGHT from WRONG at a very early age!
I clearly remember the one and ONLY time I spoke back to my parents! I remember what I was wearing, where I was standing and the direction that the sun was shining into the house! It never happened again!
Of course you dust will label them as abusive or dysfunctional! I on the other hand have nothing but respect for both of them! Dust, it`s not too late for you! Go get some help!

Either it pays to complain or somebody at city hall reads this column.. Got a loader here this morning cleaning up the banks on Francis and scraping the street down. Probably had more to do with school busses than anything else.. Several of them go up and down Francis and it was getting hard for them to make the corner as the street is narrow in the first place. Now, if they just clean the banks on Wellington the world would be such a perfect place. Ah, well, Spring is just around the corner...:)

Just Curious 2/5/2014 11:52:29 AM Report

Christina 216; It's all the traffic that cuts across from St Georges on Walnut or down London from North st to get down town. You would not believe the number of vehicles that pass my window every morning from 6 to 9:30. And they are clearing London street too so all is good...:)

Christina216; Sorry, I lied.. They only cleared the corners on London and a couple of other streets. Sure makes it better , in any event..
@northermale; No I didn't get any bus numbers as it's hard to do. By the time you see the occurrence it's past and too late. Besides, it doesn't happen every day, just once in a while. These people are doing a job that I'm sure 90% of us couldn't do so the odd minor mistake is not a biggie. I do watch them on a daily basis and will start noting major screw-ups...

"Walkabout" on you tube.It was really good, thanks for tipping us off.Great shots of Australia.Reminded me of a great book I read a couple years back about the Burke and Willis expedition as first explorers to cross the continent."Coopers Creek".Lots of the actual diaries and makes the Lewis and Clark expedition seem like a cakewalk in comparison. The bush in Australia is beautiful no doubt but I will take what we got here over that anyday.Just too many things that can bite you over there.

Here's a 'take' on Harper's speech to the Israeli Parliament. It is 'one' journalist's opinion, but I haven't read any opinions giving an alternative viewpoint. If there are any, I'm open.

I realize the topic is passe; much rain has fallen since then. But it is a well written, educated viewpoint.

shakespeare 2/5/2014 4:50:36 PM Report

Glad you enjoyed it, sparks. I, too, found the photography fascinating with the wildlife always on the periphery of the story, always a threat. A Brit friend was over there a few years ago and was somewhere in the bush and heading to his accommodation. He had been told always to stay on the paths and never to enter the bush at night. He saw the light of his chalet and decided to take the short-cut. He ended up walking through a spider web and had a spider the size of his chest on his chest. He said he absolutely freaked out and he still has nightmares about it. I always loved Jenny Agutter, in and out of her school uniform. I can't really be accused of pedophilia, as she's a year younger than I am.

my nephews are drillers and did a fairly long stint in Australia last year. They said the same thing about pathways. On the worksites in the bush down there they pave and light pathways for the men to walk between the lunch shack, bunkhouses, job site etc..in order to see really bad snakes before you step on them.Or in the case of the tiger snake..before it sees you.Yikes.

Took a helicopter ride to the foot of the falls (privately owned) filmed for Jurassic Park... the only company allowed to land there. My wife and I agree it was the most spectacular one and a half hours of our lives. It'll be our third time there. We'll be visiting Waimea Canyon for the third time, too. It's a stunning island and very unlike Oahu with the busy Honolulu and Waikiki beach. Kauai is where they filmed "South Pacific". You can buy a two bed/two bath condo five minutes from the beach for $180,000 or less. People voted friendliest in the Northern Hemisphere (so they tell me).
