Should be looking after Canadians at home FIRST who are living in poverty.
Funny how we always help groups in conflict who have tons of money for weapons but none for food and water and its people.

@Retreaded--- Harper and the other Feds think that they have downloaded all responsibility for the F. N. to the provinces,or to Nunavit(Their very own piece of Canada).
They seem to think if they ignore them, then maybe they will go away.Where will they go?Well after all we are building them a road, all the way to the Arctic ocean. With global warming , they will soon have lots of virgin land to plant their traditional crops and live off the land like the good old days. And it will create employment, because that territory will soon be awash in liquor, and hard drugs. You need only to catch a few episodes of Alaska State Troopers to see what's in store for those miserable souls in our Arctic.
As far as giving money to the Palestinians,That is a good thing. The West have been ignoring them since 1948,and it's good P.R. to appear to be doing something. If only we could return to our old role as peace keeper and mediator, instead of appearing to take Israels side in the conflict.

A while back, we were on the road to a unique tourist attraction."Planes--Boats--and Trains"We have the highly successful plane part in the Bushplane Museum. We have yet to do much with the Train part---but what if C.N.,or Via were to build a heritage type train station, haul some antiquated rolling stock and locomotives to the site and have an out door train museum. Put us on the trans-Canada Via route to both oceans. We are halfway across Canada and the Soo would be a good place to start a trip in either direction.
As far as the boat, or ship content, we have lost the tour boat. But what if we got that back and then started running excursions to Toronto, and Thunder Bay.Maybe Chicago. Why not drag the Norgoma to that derelict property opposite The Old Stone House and open a fine Seafood restaurant in it.Lets start building again instead of tearing everything down.

I always found it annoying that those who made the least effort to keep others informed were the ones who bitched the most when something hadn’t been referred to them. In a similar vein, when consulting this site, I always find it amusing to read how those who are the most virulent in constantly tearing certain public figures apart (e.g. President Obama, who is none of our business in any case!) are so righteously indignant when another poster criticizes or belittles their idols (e.g. Prime Minister Harper, who in fact is very much our business.)

Over the last few years we have contributed some $650 million to the Palestinians. From what I have seen on the news they have maybe spent $50 million of that on food and medicine and the other $600million on arms and ammunition. Perhaps maybe instead of cash we should consider sending them the equivilant in food and medical supplies with a large maple leaf emblazoned on the side of the boxes. That way we could be paying our own people for the supplies, and not put money into others pockets. I am all for giving aid to people, however I am NOT for giving aid to kill or maim others. You want medical supplies, fine we have lots of pharma companies, you want food we have lots of agriculture, you want cash for guns, 'P' off!!!

prot: I am no fan of Bush, but he didn't start the ball rolling on banking deregulation. It was Clinton who passed the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act and the Community Reinvestment Act which opened the door to sub-prime loans. There is plenty of blame on both sides of the political divide for that debaucle.
As for regulation, I wouldn't mind having a US style financial regulator. They have teeth. The Ontario Securities Commission is a paper tiger at best. Conrad Black was tried and charged in the US. There is no way he could have been tried either here or in the UK (it is doubtful his acts would be considered a crime in Canada or the UK). He was never charged here, even though he has plenty of assets and interest here.

Prot: such is the nature of politics. Democrats are just as much in the pay of large banks as the Republicans. My friend likes to call them the Evil Party and the Stupid Party. I tend to agree, though which one is which depends on the speaker.
Bush at least tried to curtail Fannie and Freddy, but was blocked by Congress. Unlike some, I don't lay every act in the lap of the POTUS. Congress is sometimes too lazy or stupid to get their houses in order.
The US system is a wonderfully anarchic system sometimes.
