Good morning all.
Snow squalls are heavy here with no visibility Hwy 17 closed again, did not know if the OPP catch you on a closed HWY you will get a fine and lose points on your drivers license. I guess I'm a prisoner by decree.

Mallet,
what would you rather have water and snow or ice and blowing drifting snow we 're getting right now, can't she crap, everything is clinging and all white. Time to dig out again.

Got up---looked out the window--going back to bed--Ah,the joy of being retired and living in an apartment.

Good morning everyone

I don`t find no joy in living in an apartment, not yet anyway.
I have to move my car on the street for the plow.
I awaken in the night when the other tenants flush their toilets, close doors too loud and I hear the young couple making out.
I`am glad they`re not like most young couples because it doesn`t happen a lot, LOL.

Did you guys read my funny post yesterday?

There are some negatives about apartment living. Remembering the lessons from our just married days (Somewhere before the dinosaurs became extinct) we were careful about the unit we rented. It's a four plex and the youngest tenant is approaching 50. It is also a well maintained older building that has a reasonable rent. These accommodations are out there but finding them takes patience networking and, admittedly, some luck

Grrrr Morning All..

I could get poetic and say how lovely and Christmasee it looks out there.... but I won't add to the misery!!

Bounder... That's a loaded question, cos' your're damned if you do, or don't have open water, if it's cold enough it will snow!! I did not know you could be fined, only if you went past the barriers. coming in from a side road or even if your drive in on the highway, how would you know if the road was closed, we often drive when in other places they would have the roads closed for whatever reason. This sort of thing is not like the states where they put that sort of information at the bottom of the tv screen.

Anyhow, we just batten down the hatches and wait it out, I aint going to do any clearing until the weather does, I don't have to go anywhere..

You all have a great day out there...
bounder 1/7/2014 10:19:18 AM Report

Mallet as I found out they put warning cones at the side road entrances to the Hwy. Surprise for us this AM, our plow went by, imagine that.
mallet 1/7/2014 10:54:59 AM Report

Bounder..

Good for you... I cannot see the road from my place at the best of times and especially when it was snowing/blowing as it is now... And if they closed the Highway how did the plow get up here to Haviland?? I guess they dont have to go on the highway to do round the Gouais area... just makes for more money for them as they will have to come back and do it again in a couple of hours due to the drifting... Sometimes Jamie and his boys there like to do that.. the road board has too much money on hand so they have to use it... you know from not doing any road paving this past year... then they will want to raise taxes to do more work next year... if a government body has money they have to spend it... I think we had about 140k set by for surface treating vitually the whole length of road (single treatment) then of course they cancelled it, as when the tenders went out again it was too late in the season to do it all, especially the northern areas which have to be done first. Why they could not have split it up and done ours I do not know, but as decisions like this have to be made by the people in North Bay and TO I can understand why...
bounder 1/7/2014 11:36:26 AM Report

Mallet, what happened was the contract for gravel was signed and the one for paving was not as it cost more than a million dollars , so they sent it in for approval and it came back way to late, so the gravel guys would get paid anyways, gravel or no gravel. Dumb asses.
mallet 1/7/2014 12:59:41 PM Report

Bounder..
I know, they broke up the old treatment and gravelled and now they have to regravel as the plows will be taking quite a bit off if and when spring comes around it will have to be replaced (by the MTO) who will want to do a little more double surface treatment and charge accordingly. Haviland Statute Labour Board has changed to a Road Board, and will now get a little more funding, but I am not sure that losing the ability to control who does the work is that much of an advantage..
shakespeare 1/7/2014 1:11:55 PM Report

Mallet and Bounder, would you please shut your doors and windows and put out your bonfires. Stop heating Superior ... let it freeze! We don't appreciate the blizzards you are sending our way!
bounder 1/7/2014 1:19:32 PM Report

Shake
I share everything Mother Nature has to offer, I'm sure the lake will be up in the spring, it's all Global warming.Enjoy.
T-rat 1/7/2014 1:33:45 PM Report

Mallet/Bounder: just finished about 600feet of driveway and the parking area with the lawn tractor/snowblower. Took over 2 hours since the stuff is like powdered sugar. Was going to say that I couldn't find my car until I tripped over it but the drifts aren't quite that bad. Of course, just as I finished up, it started snowing again....and the grader hasn't been by yet, so at some point I'll be back at it. One of nature's laws out here is that no matter which direction you blow the snow, that's where the wind will come from. I looked like a g-d yeti by the time I shut her down.
mallet 1/7/2014 2:07:03 PM Report

Shakespeare..

What's the matter, you don't like that we are sharing with you, just be very happy that it is not the English weather they are having in the SouthWest of that country at the moment..

T Rat..

I know what you mean, but last year I bought a cab for the tractor and now I can go out without the snowsuit and big gloves and balaclava, makes blowing snow so much more civilised. by the time the plow comes along you will probably have another 3 or 4 inches of snow in the driveway...

Bounder....

Moan, Moan, Moan, that's all those townies can do, just because they got a few snow flakes fall on their wide avenues.
bounder 1/7/2014 5:42:31 PM Report

I wouldn't leave here for a million bucks.
