WOW. can't believe it, I have the first post for the new year...a very Happy New Year to all of this group....even the cranky ones! And there are quite a few of those!
nanag 1/1/2014 8:11:41 AM Report

Good morning I hope there aren't too many hungover folks out there..hope you all didn't get liquered up and get into trouble.. drinking and driving, fighting at the dump, howling at the moon..I DON't have time to bail anybody out of the slammer, lockup, big house, hoosgow(?). I must go to work first..sick folks come first..have a good day everybody.. bring on 2014
sparks7 1/1/2014 8:11:44 AM Report

lol,
That was funny Buffy, ty.
Now I have a cranky prediction for the day.US and international economies continue to recover.Canadian dollar continues it's slide against the US greenback. That will kick in eventually and provide a positive boost to the Canadian books just in time for Harper to win the next election.Sorry to anybody that does not like it but it is just the way I am seeing things right now.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL
Spellchecker 1/1/2014 8:23:59 AM Report

Snobound, sorry I missed you at the jam session. I have quit attending them because when I get in there I have a desire to indulge in a libation. Since there is a 40 mile drive ahead of me that is not wise so I choose to remain in the beautiful giant metropolis of Hilton Beach.
David Poluck 1/1/2014 8:39:10 AM Report

Happy New Year 2014!!
Snobank 1/1/2014 9:02:34 AM Report

Understood Spelly. Just a little sad I didn't get to meet you again after almost half a century. Happy New Year to you and everyone else as well.
flyhawk25 1/1/2014 9:37:29 AM Report

Good morning and happy new year.
To those of us who stayed home and went to bed early it is a fine chilly morning.
To those who did not - you'll learn sooner than later I hope.
I agree with Spelly. At some point we all eventually learn. Starting a new year feeling like crap makes for a long year.
I'm no hockey guy but that winter classic in Ann Arbor will be a must watch.100K fans frozen in place. Yikes.
Grump 1/1/2014 9:40:54 AM Report

Good morning everyone and a big Happy New Year to all. A beautiful sunny day which is certainly a great way to start 2014. I was up early making Suzie her New Year's omelet , bacon and polish sausage, onion, green pepper, portabello mushroom, eggs and a hint of garlic (like a tablespoon). Time to go put the fire on in the shop and get the snowblower and clean up the drive.
Grump 1/1/2014 9:51:45 AM Report

Fly, Bobby, Shaky and Red Ranger can you fellows sort out a day for lunch? Probably only need to get a common time for Shaky and R.R. as the rest of us have more flexible times. Also where is the handiest, east, west, north or downtown? You have several weeks so you old codgers should be able to come up with an answer by then. In the meantime enjoy the New Year. If we still had Skipper Dave with us he could herd you fellows up and have an answer later today. lol
flyhawk25 1/1/2014 10:11:19 AM Report

Grump...I think Shakey is out of town.Next week pretty much works for me.
redranger 1/1/2014 10:24:17 AM Report

Grump, Fly et al
I am back to work next week so am only free on Wednesdays for lunch. Next week (8th) would have been fine and we could have celebrated Elvis' birthday. However I have an app't with the foot nurse at 1:30. I could leave at 1:15 and make it or we can wait for a later Wednesday. How about January 15th?
Any location is fine with me. Gliss is excellent.
right wing 1/1/2014 10:52:57 AM Report

Best wishes to all for a healthy and prosperous new year.
flyhawk25 1/1/2014 10:59:04 AM Report

rw...and to you and your family as well.
Would you like to join us for lunch?
I promise not to try to convert you.
gcubed 1/1/2014 11:27:22 AM Report

Fly: Are we going to have a memorial breakfast, lunch or supper for Skipper Dave? You mentioned something at some point, and my wife and I would like to attend. Hopefully, not in February, because we are flying to Palm Springs.

Big Bad Bob 1/1/2014 12:02:48 PM Report

Happy New Year everyone.
Grump 1/1/2014 12:12:30 PM Report

OK fellows pick a day probably the 8'th or the 15'th as either work for me. G3 I believe Wicket is working on that and I have a surprise guest for that one.
shakespeare 1/1/2014 12:14:40 PM Report

Happy New Year everyone! We'll be back from London (and the herd of family that is galloping around this , thank goodness, big house) on Saturday or Sunday. I should be available for lunch for the next six weeks. Me and Spelly will be more than happy to help with any pronoun or other grammar and spelling queries over the next year!
redranger 1/1/2014 12:26:34 PM Report

Shakey
I love it. :-)
flyhawk25 1/1/2014 12:30:47 PM Report

shakey...as much as this pains me...the subjective pronoun was required to go with 'Spelly'. You must still be in vacation mode.
Zing 1/1/2014 12:35:07 PM Report

Spelly and I.
flyhawk25 1/1/2014 12:36:20 PM Report

Grump...I vote for Wednesday the 16th.
Place to be determined.
flyhawk25 1/1/2014 12:37:39 PM Report

zing...cha-ching!
Budster 1/1/2014 12:51:14 PM Report

We're coming home from California on the 9th so a gathering on the following week is better for me. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday cause I sure did.
shakespeare 1/1/2014 12:56:09 PM Report

Fly and zing: I think red ranger gets it!
flyhawk25 1/1/2014 1:16:39 PM Report

shakey...I have to believe that you did that for fun.
But it was like the sound of nails scraping on a blackboard.
Don't scare me like that.I'm too old for grammatical pranks.
Grump 1/1/2014 1:25:17 PM Report

Fly would you settle for Wed. the 15'th?
shakespeare 1/1/2014 1:41:00 PM Report

I have a Brazilian waxing booked for noon on 15th, but will reschedule.
steelworker 1/1/2014 1:43:24 PM Report

I believe it is called a "Bro-zilian".
nanag 1/1/2014 1:53:32 PM Report

I would give .. well.. just about anything to be an "audio" witness to any guy getting waxed.. brazillian especially
flyhawk25 1/1/2014 2:01:02 PM Report

Grump...absotivley. Told you I was losing it.
old-cat33 1/1/2014 2:24:44 PM Report

That article about Cecil Thompson,he said that way back when all there was for work was the Steel Plant, paper mill and chrome plant. Where in the hec was the chrome plant? Never heard the old guys in there talk about it?
Grump 1/1/2014 2:29:34 PM Report

old-cat33 The chrome plant was on Huron St. where the bus barns are now and believe one of the buildings is still .standing behind the barns
Spellchecker 1/1/2014 2:45:36 PM Report

lol

:)
flyhawk25 1/1/2014 3:24:44 PM Report

I actually saw and dad and his little guy on skates playing hockey in their backyard rink. It lasted about an hour. No other kids and all is quiet so I guess the TVs are getting a workout.
I know it's cold but whatever happened to playing until the street lights come on?
Retreaded 1/1/2014 5:52:46 PM Report

My late father worked at the chrome plant until it closed...way back in the 60's I believe. It was called Chromium Mining and Smelting Corp.
Hamguy 1/1/2014 6:22:12 PM Report

Has anyone out there seen or heard Al Gore lately ?. You know, Mr Global Warming guy.
JWT 1/1/2014 6:52:11 PM Report

oldcat33... The last part of the Chrome Plant that I remember being in operation was located on the east side of Huron Street immediately adjacent to the north side of the ACR railroad. I believe Mr. Routledge was the manager or superintendent at that time. I think it ceased to operate circa 1960.
Resident 1/1/2014 7:34:35 PM Report

Hamguy: It's called Climate Change now. I think because of the closed minded. And the earth is flat.
steelworker 1/1/2014 7:34:53 PM Report

Hamguy: The Goracle and Stupezuki are outside shovelling my driveway.
steelworker 1/1/2014 7:56:42 PM Report

It's a good thing that the Earth is flat or all my carbon credits would fly off into space. (sarc on)
flyhawk25 1/1/2014 9:34:09 PM Report

Hmmm...you have a driveway? Who knew?
I thought you just lived in your mother's basement and someone takes care of the maintenance while you ate snack food and played video games. But remember the snow needs to be put at the side rather than on the street or in your pockets.
Or you could just wait until spring and it will melt. Not from global warming... just from warmer days.
Now finish your snack and brush your tooth.
learningaswego 1/1/2014 10:09:09 PM Report

Just about time for the Goracle and the other "climate" billionaires to come out with a new term; to extort money from the gullible.
Global Warming was a bust; Climate Change - not happening.....so let's see...how about....

Weather Unpredictability.

Yeah, that's the ticket. Al can say he invented it, with the Internet; and gouge the world's gullible for a few more billion.
Shakey 1/1/2014 11:21:30 PM Report

I've noticed that a number of you casually refer to Shakespeare as Shakey or Shaky. I would like to remind you that I am the original Shakey on here and have been stalking your comments for more years than Shakespeare has been a visitor in the blue room. Out of respect I am asking that your refer to Shakespeare by his/her name or whatever else you prefer. And a Happy New Year to all.
