Good morning all,
thought I'd go first this last day, have and be safe tonight.
sparks7 12/31/2013 6:50:54 AM Report

I just got a renewal notice in the mail from my insurance company. It is for auto insurance.

They are asking me if I would like to pay up more $ to insure against the chance of an insurance claim and subsequent rising insurance costs.

So what is it? Now I need insurance to protect me from rising insurance costs in the event I need insurance?

Bobby Nerves 12/31/2013 7:09:41 AM Report

Good morning all.

I'm planning an outdoor New's Year Celebration.

Can you rate my chances of success?

Just Curious 12/31/2013 7:33:27 AM Report

Good thing I'm not invited, I'd be a no-show for sure...LOL..:)
dingus 12/31/2013 7:46:45 AM Report

Bobby, your chestnuts will be roasting over an open fire tonight -24 GOOD LUCK HAPPY NEW YEAR
Just Curious 12/31/2013 8:11:04 AM Report

Definitely won't be up at midnight so Happy New Year to everyone on here.
Grump 12/31/2013 8:14:26 AM Report

Bobby you be careful roasting your chestnuts over an open fire. Look what happened to the swampers. Some got brain damage, one now has to have his wife carry his around in her purse and the worst there are now a few on here that can't read or google without twisting things to suit themselves. Be careful Chum don't want you in that boat too. Always protect the boys. LMAO
Grump 12/31/2013 8:20:03 AM Report

J.C. now that you are a little older get to be cool. When you are ready for your kip just look around and say " Well it's midnight somewhere, Bon Soir". Have a good one and don't get too wild and crazy this evening
Grump 12/31/2013 8:26:51 AM Report

Good morning everyone. Have a great New Year and if you are out and about take a ride (not in the cruiser or paddy wagon). I would hate to have any of you missing tomorrow, even the swampers , so take it easy and enjoy.

Grump, to paraphrase Alan Jackson, it's always "5 o'clock somewhere" at my house..You have a great night yourself, sir....:).
Bobby Nerves 12/31/2013 8:39:39 AM Report

Geeee, then I should expect less people around me than those who will attend Nigel Wright's Friendship Day celebration!

What's left for teflon Duffy then? He can throw a party in a washroom and will still have plenty of space available.

Glad I didn't start the fire yet.
Grump 12/31/2013 8:40:13 AM Report

Wisen, A little thought for the day. Many of us (the majority believe we elected the loser). Add to that Mr. Law and Order used every deceitful, underhanded and illegal scams and election over spending to cheat every way they could. We really need losers like that and how is that working for anything but your egos? Natural resources are pouring out of the Country and we are still running a DEFICIT. What is interesting is he is spending your money (taxpayers) advertising what a wonderful job he is doing and a few of you are dumb enough to swallow that whole. WOW.
Grump 12/31/2013 9:59:52 AM Report

Sparks send a little note to your insurer and ask where the kiss is that you should get when you are getting humped. A sign of things to come for the rest of us this year.
northernmale 12/31/2013 10:13:14 AM Report

I just changed insurance company's I saved almost 600 dollars a year on my cars. And as for my home it went up 5 dollars a month but my house is insured for 150.000 more and I have better flood and sewer back up coverage. I was with the same company for 25 years.. So much for getting a brake with them.
Wicket 12/31/2013 10:29:43 AM Report

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!

My wish is that your life is treating you well, that you enjoy living it and that you are kind to others (including those that disagree with you!).
flyhawk25 12/31/2013 10:36:47 AM Report

I just opened my new 2014 calendar from the Northern Credit Union. That's enough celebrating for this old guy.
Got some homemade chicken soup cooling and I'll spend the eve doing pots. And not the kind some posters will try to hang on Trudeau Lite.
steelworker 12/31/2013 10:39:08 AM Report

Grump: you seem to have fixated on my "boys". Please keep your fantasies to yourself (don't worry about them; it is a very large purse).
Snobank 12/31/2013 11:24:49 AM Report

I'm sitting in the doctor's office grateful that I won't receive a huge bill... ...I'm waiting for the usual explanation of how much this is really costing me. Happy New Year everybody!

A New Year's tale .. So Grumplestiltskin was so enraged when Harper won his second majority, that he drove his foot deep into the ground, and then tore himself in two trying to extricate himself.
Grumple's mentor, Fly, just shook his head as he watched the crazed antics of his homey, and wondered how the Libs could throw it all away again, by choosing Elroy Jetson as their leader.
Gosh darn Andy.
Wisenheimer 12/31/2013 1:11:48 PM Report

Hope you are all enjoying the Harper/Flaherty induced Santa Claus rally in our markets. It continues daily.
What a wonderful country we live in.
Look for it to go til about Jan.6th. Pull backs will be buying opportunities.
See ya!

Okay .. a blonde joke (might be a little different from the original telling...)

A blonde female decides she is going to take up ice fishing.

She gathers all her gear and walks out onto the ice

She starts to dig the first hole and suddenly hears a voice from above.. "there is no fish under the ice".

She gathers her stuff and moves way over to the left and proceeds to start digging a hole.. again the voice from above.. " there are no fish under the ice.

Undaunted she moves way off to the right and again starts to dig a hole and again the voice from above
.."lady.. there is NO fish under the ice in this arena".

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!!
Just Curious 12/31/2013 3:04:45 PM Report

Nanag, :)
did you hear about the two blondes that walked into a building?? Neither one of them saw it.....:)
Grump 12/31/2013 3:23:11 PM Report

Steely I just feel bad for you, you don't even own your boys anymore. Most women just try to control them ,yours owns them. No fantasy there chum I still own mine and have full control and it's sad that you can't even scratch yours without asking permission to open her little purse.
Grump 12/31/2013 3:28:10 PM Report

steelworker 12/31/2013 3:47:06 PM Report

Grump: obviously you don't have a friend who can read (or just a friend). It was reported yesterday in the National Post that the Conservative Party collected 8.1 million dollars in a six month period (2013) while the Libs only sucked in 5.9 million in the same time period. Nice try Bong-Hitter Trudeau. In other news it is being reported on the CBC that the Canadian economy is doing just fine (thank you very much Harper et al).
bounder 12/31/2013 3:59:09 PM Report

A blonde and a redhead get into an elevator , next floor a man in a black suit gets in,stands with his back to them, the redhead notices some white stuff on his suit and says someone should give him head and shoulders, the blonde says how do you give someone shoulders.
Happy New Year.
Spellchecker 12/31/2013 4:42:10 PM Report

Snobank, you are older than me so you paid for that visit to your doctor years ago, and for a few more too.
Resident 12/31/2013 4:50:27 PM Report

In my opinion Canada's economy is doing ok IN SPITE of harper. IF the Cons/Reform are getting large donations it is from big business/industry/the rich most of whom ONLY see money and NOT quality of life/environment/Canada in general.
learningaswego 12/31/2013 4:59:28 PM Report

Thanks to the Harper Government - you know the great evil - corporations and "rich people" can only donate a little over $1000 a year to any federal political party.

But hey, we know you won't let facts, truth or reality get in the way of a good ole' "Harper is the evil spawn of Satan" rant, eh?
Resident 12/31/2013 5:09:02 PM Report

I didn't say anything about anybody being evil. Those were your words. I DON'T think harper is a good Prime Minister. I think he is for the rich/big business/industry. Profit/money at any cost. I find that wrong but I'm sure you'll google something that backs up your idea that that is right (pun?).
Jimssm 12/31/2013 5:09:56 PM Report

@learning...

On May 25, 2011, just three weeks after the election that gave them majority power, the Conservatives announced that their June 6 federal budget would include the elimination of the per-vote subsidy.

The elimination of the per-vote subsidy helps only one party.... the Conservatives.

So get your 'facts' straight.
old-cat33 12/31/2013 6:09:46 PM Report

Well another year is coming to an end and I am glad to see this year go. After losing one of my favorite uncles this year and having to put down my Shepherd (Jammie Lee) this spring, this year could't end fast enough. The passing of one of my favorite posters The "Skipper Dave"also saddens me.
BUT! getting to read Grump,Flyhawk, nanag,The Protector,Bob The Builder, right wing and the rest of you people on here makes it worth while looking to 2014.
So I would like to say HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone on here in the View Room.
flyhawk25 12/31/2013 6:24:09 PM Report

I just got back home and safely buttoned down for the night.
If you plan on driving tonight - a risky trip any New Years - please be careful.
As northerners we know how bad things can get quickly and it would be terrible to have anyone get hurt. Or worse.
To everyone who must venture to work or be in this - be safe and thank you.

We need to get rid of Wynne then next HARPER.
Grump 12/31/2013 7:00:26 PM Report

Steely it seems obvious that you can read but you really have to work on the comprehension part. Yes early 2013 the Conservatives pulled more donations which slowed down with the Senate scandal and the lies etc. The Liberals are now outdoing them which is remarkable given their position last election compared to now. Also even more telling is the number of smaller donations they are receiving which means more voters donating which means more votes. This means scandal bad, big donations good but more smaller ones better. You fellows can dish Justin all you wish and I would say he is at least trusted as much as Harper at this time and he is liked a whole hell of a lot better. See if your wife will give you the boys back part time, it may help you think better or at all. Net result Bye, bye Steve.

Did you really post, "you are older than me"? Wow!
steelworker 12/31/2013 7:20:59 PM Report

I suspect that the only Liberal politician that has a "pair of boys" might just be the Premier of Ontario. Her platform in the next election is to RAISE taxes to fix infrastructure in Southern Ontario. Anything north of Parry Sound might as well be on Mars.
Spellchecker 12/31/2013 7:25:45 PM Report

Yes I did, redranger, and I realized the error right after I posted it. I told Mrs. Spellchecker, with shakey away, that I should be safe as long as redranger doesn't notice.

My bride (of 50 years) was diagnosed with dementia this past summer so this hasn't been the best year of our lives. We don't know much about what next year will bring but we're going to do whatever we can as best we can.

I had a friend, and mentor (deceased), who never said a great deal about how one should live except that people are more important than anything else, and being of service to people without recognition or reward is our most important task in this life. Tonight, as I think of this, and understand that I'm far short of living this way, I sense what he meant when he told me, more than once, that I should be very grateful that I've never received what I deserve.

He also suggested, on more than one occasion, that I should never go in my head alone.I think this likely good advice for a guy like me.

I wish One and All in the View Room a Safe, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Remember Christmas Eve, New Years is just the same, snowed a heck of a lot. Do you see our city workers out NO. But tomorrow when it's a holiday you will see them out in full force, I've been out working for the last 24 hours, not seen a single Plowright truck. And the worst thing is after they get there ridiculous holiday pay(because they don't Plowright when it snows), we suffer when they scrape the road down and leave us a huge windrow at the end do our driveways.

Seriously it's been snowing since 3 this afternoon where are the pillows, or wait tomorrow is a holiday the pays better. Come on now Sault Ste Marie city board of works

@risky, they haven't been removing snow for a while now because the 2013 snow removal budget was fully spent a long time ago. Mark my words, snow removal will pick up big time starting today... Jan 1 2014... there's a full 2014 snow removal budget they can start spending.

Happy new year.
