Good morning all.
Last hours of a great 2013.
I'm planning another great BBQ to celebrate the arrival of 2014.

Thank you all for another great year.
Grump 12/30/2013 7:08:17 AM Report

Good morning everyone, time to rise and shine. It's a tad cooler this a.m. and we can expect more snow. I hope everyone has their rides arranged for New Year's Eve festivities as we don't need to hear of anymore vehicle deaths or maiming. Other than that party your butts off and have a great time. Have a great day all.
Grump 12/30/2013 7:12:05 AM Report

Bobby you and I are good for a while as only the good die young. Behave yourself on New Years and call me when you want to have that coffee or lunch. Happy New Year.
David Poluck 12/30/2013 7:14:47 AM Report

Good Monday morning everyone!
Wow did this year ever fly by quick!
I'm already looking forward to the first months of 2014 where topics like;

As it is a municipal election year, who will come forward to run for council and the school boards?

Is it possible to expect to pay less than the proposed 3% increase after city budget deliberations are concluded?

Will the economy improve for the Sault?

Who will be the new Chief of Police?

Please feel free to add to the list!

flyhawk25 12/30/2013 7:31:20 AM Report

Good northern morning.
The brass monkeys on my balcony are banging on the door to get in.
soowat 12/30/2013 7:38:32 AM Report

flyhawk25:

Took a minute or two plus a few more sips of coffee to decipher your comment. lol
Bobby Nerves 12/30/2013 7:52:16 AM Report

Fly, that's because you're fortunate to have the penthouse.

I'm down here in the cave and I can see the sun.

Grump, I'm busy towards the end of the month and mostly as the end of the year approaches, but we'll get some time to burn the darn failures, regrets and anger of the past so we can clear the field to build with the hope and expectations of the future.

Perhaps we can get some money to buy a larger truck to carry the chickens to the dump... if you know what I mean.

Ho...Ho...Ho... I'm still in the Christmas Spirit.

Grump 12/30/2013 9:39:35 AM Report

Bobby I have a F-550 turbo diesel, crew cab with a 12' deck that should do the job. I don't use it much as it's too damn big for most of my work but should work fine for that little project. Will catch up after New Year. Don't forget to come out of the cave on the First to see if you cast a shadow, LMAO. Happy New Year everyone.
Grump 12/30/2013 9:42:47 AM Report

Fly if yours were freezing off you would pound on the door also. It was 20 below C here this morning and the radio said it was 32 below C. with the wind chill factor.
flyhawk25 12/30/2013 10:09:52 AM Report

Grump...man, at my age it takes a lot less than that for the Touchdown Twins to go into hiding.
Time to throw another log on the electric fireplace.
Snobank 12/30/2013 1:19:52 PM Report

Sadly, my brass monkey is ruined.
mallet 12/30/2013 1:28:01 PM Report

Flyhawk and Grump...

Do you know where a "Brass Monkey" comes from?? You can google it if you want, but it was the base for the cannon balls when ships had cannons for weapons. Depending on the calibre they would hold a stack of cannon balls about 3 or 4 levels high and when the temperature was low enough the brass would contract and the cannon balls would roll off.. thus comes the expression of "freezing the balls off a brass monkey", bit of useless knowledge from my brother who served in the navy... Royal that is!!!
Grump 12/30/2013 1:34:49 PM Report

I winter built one winter in Cochrane and another in Hornepayne. The brass monkeys wouldn't even go out in that weather, the others you had to drag out to get any work done.
flyhawk25 12/30/2013 2:04:32 PM Report

mallet...actually I did know.Part of my years in school learning arcane stuff.
steelworker 12/30/2013 2:24:37 PM Report

I used to clang mine a lot but now the wife keeps them in her purse.
mallet 12/30/2013 3:36:17 PM Report

Steelworker...

So your surname is Bobbit and your wife is Lorena???
soowat 12/30/2013 4:14:38 PM Report

Just a chuckle

A 911 caller who wanted to know how to rent a fire truck had the most absurd emergency call of the year, says a B.C. agency.

The full list:

I'd like to speak to someone about renting a fire truck to block off a street for a party.

A caller phoned 9-1-1 to get their date's contact information so they could confirm details of their plans.

A caller phoned 9-1-1 to report a missed newspaper delivery.

Caller asks 9-1-1 if they can get the 'OK' to drive in the HOV lane because traffic is backed up and they are late for an important meeting.

. Caller dials 9-1-1 to activate voicemail on his cellphone.

I threw my phone into the garbage can and can't get it out.

Caller dials 9-1-1 to ask for a morning wake-up call.

Caller dials 9-1-1 to ask how to call the operator.

Can an officer come over to tell my kids to go to bed?

My son won't give me the remote control.

steelworker 12/30/2013 4:36:33 PM Report

Mallet: that's why I type in a high squeaky voice.
Grump 12/30/2013 4:48:18 PM Report

rw You asked who was going to beat Harper and I'll now tell it will be Justin. The Liberals are now raising more money than the Conservatives. The Liberal target for Dec. was 2,000,000.00 dollars and they are only about 50,000.00 away at the moment. These dollars will counter Harper's attack adds and mean voter support both of which Harper has either lost or is losing. The only way Harper won before was he had the donations and the Liberals didn't. I can feel you pain rw but I can't reach. LMAO
steelworker 12/30/2013 5:05:10 PM Report

After Justin blows the campaign funds on hair gel and rolling papers there won't be much left.
flyhawk25 12/30/2013 5:35:17 PM Report

Now that's a thoughtful retort.
steelworker 12/30/2013 5:42:37 PM Report

Why thank you.
Grump 12/30/2013 5:43:04 PM Report

Fly what would you expect from a fellow whose wife carries around his boys. Nice to see some of Harper's crap is coming back to bite his a**. The voter subsidy which I'm sure he is going to really need this time around, he got rid of.
flyhawk25 12/30/2013 5:56:55 PM Report

Grump...just a word of caution.
It's a long time until the election and anything can happen.Think about Harry Truman.
I want Harper gone too but I also want many things as well.
We are both of an age to know that things change.
steelworker 12/30/2013 5:59:45 PM Report

So the Libs raise 5.1 million from April to September, the Conservatives raise 8.9 million in the same time frame and Justin is a whiz? I think most Canadians could look at this and see Liberal economics at work. To paraphrase a certain somebody-LMAO.
Grump 12/30/2013 6:04:05 PM Report

Steelworker you pulling your numbers out of the same rat hole that rw does?
steelworker 12/30/2013 6:05:18 PM Report

Get someone to read todays National post to you.
steelworker 12/30/2013 6:08:06 PM Report

...or the Globe and Mail has an article but don't mention the Libs dismal numbers.
Wisenheimer 12/30/2013 6:23:10 PM Report

Liberal pundit Warren Kinsella calls Justin a "good looking space cadet", who admires the Chinese dictatorship, who wants to ponder the root causes of the Boston Marathon bombings and lost his summer talking about weed, instead of policy.
The party had a chance to put forth an adult like Mark Garneau, or John Manley or Brian Tobin after the debacles of Dion and Ignatieff, but went with Johnny Quest instead.
flyhawk25 12/30/2013 6:23:36 PM Report

Look kids...none of this matters. It's far too early to predict beans.
steelworker 12/30/2013 6:49:57 PM Report

Hadji start a fundraiser and get Race Bannon on line 2.
Grump 12/30/2013 7:25:20 PM Report

Nice spin on the article all your own Wisen. Do you have a problem reading or were you educated at the rw school of B.S.
steelworker 12/30/2013 8:13:18 PM Report

Liberal platform for next election: smooooooooke weeeeeeeeed dudes.
flyhawk25 12/30/2013 10:13:36 PM Report

Really.
Do you know anything about Trudeau other than you think he is a weed user?
In fact - do you know anything at all about politics?
To take it further - do you know anything at all about anything at all?
Wisenheimer 12/30/2013 10:22:46 PM Report

Hey Grump et Fly ... The Libs picked a loser 3 times running. Sad but true.
steelworker 12/30/2013 11:00:59 PM Report

I know just enough to handle the simpletons on this board. Anything else is just overkill.
