As we get closer to Christmas Day wouldn't it be nice if we could all just bottle the nice wishes and actions all year long?
Enjoy the holidays.

We all do, Retreaded, it is just that some seem to forget that fact, and then hammer on the Pearly Gates to get in...
TFinn 12/22/2013 10:43:32 AM Report

Had anyone been to the lighting of the tree last evening at City Hall ? If so ...what were your views on it ? Friends went and apparently this dedication is from many donations, throughout the year from funeral homes, hospital etc. They had taken some pictures of it because they were a little taken back. The tree itself was donated and is actually a nice tree ...however, since a lot of money has been donated one would think they could prepped the tree far nicer with much more lighting, from the photos it looked like just a strand or two were used and thrown on, so where did all the donated money go.? Also being on City Hall property, they could have made sure the surrounding area was clear of snow and ruts where people had to stand. I'm sure the city has ample equipment and workers to make sure the walkways were properly cleaned. Just saying it could have been a lot nicer for such a memorable event, to honour past loved ones.

SSM to Ranger Lake:
1) Via Searchmont Hwy = 71 km
2) Via Thessalon = 208 km
3) Crow flight = 93 km NE
4) Triangle = 56km E; 40 km N
Grump 12/22/2013 11:41:36 AM Report

I just read the vote totals for the poll for news maker of the year. Rob Ford 63%, The Senate 7%, Prime Minister Harper 2%, tied with Rahteah Parsons. One can take these numbers in many ways but I don't see any good in them other than that poor Parsons girl. I suspect Harper doesn't lie well enough to rate more while he certainly does it often enough.
BIG BROTHER 12/22/2013 11:49:59 AM Report

Canna,
Is the crow drunk?? That's usually the shortest route.

Grump, Harper isn't in the news because he doesn't answer to anybody. He is rapidly changing the fabric of Canada and the press is giving him a free pass.
Zing 12/22/2013 11:51:58 AM Report

Grump

There was so much Harper coverage that you didn't need to search for it. Rob Ford searches were more of a worldwide phenomenal continuous event.

That could be some of the reason.

Canna,

flyhawk25 12/22/2013 11:57:42 AM Report

BB...it's difficult to question or challenge a leader who controls access to himself.
Harper is the antithesis of transparent. We are under government by dictum.
If you take the phone off the hook dead beat debtors will tell you even collection agencies have to work to nail you.
Harper has perfected that technique.
And his guy Bryan Hayes works the same theory.
Rodents have survived for centuries by being out of the light.

Pondering Jesus.....

There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:

1. He called everyone brother

2. He liked Gospel

3. He didn't get a fair trial

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:

1.He went into His Father's Business

2.He lived at home until he was 33

3.He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his Mother was sure He was God

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:

1.He talked with His hands

2.He had wine with His meals

3.He used olive oil

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian:

1. He never cut His hair

2.He walked around barefoot all the time

3. He started a new religion

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was an American Indian:

1. He was at peace with nature

2. He ate a lot of fish

3. He talked about the Great Spirit

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:

1. He never got married.

2. He was always telling stories.

3. He loved green pastures.

But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a woman:

1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was virtually no food

2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it

3. And even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was still work to do

Can I get an AMEN!!
BIG BROTHER 12/22/2013 1:35:54 PM Report

Duck Dynasty Marathon on A&E today. A&E is going to cash in on the 'phenomena' now, like all true capitalists..

Funny how they can suspend the Head Duck, out of indignation, then cash in on the indignation.
Grump 12/22/2013 1:59:42 PM Report

With celebrities (even duck ones) many times it's manufactured news. For all we know both A & E and the head Duck could just be grabbing a lot of free press. This is after all supposedly reality TV. LMAO.

BIG BROTHER 12/22/2013 2:12:22 PM Report

Grump,
Another conspiracy, possibly??!

Nothing would surprise me. My cynicism is devouring my better judgement. It has been thus, since Kennedy was assassinated by 'whoever'. The Vietnam war didn't help. Iraq sealed the deal. Throw in a few explainable's, and I don't take anything at face value anymore.
flyhawk25 12/22/2013 2:32:14 PM Report

BB...you are not alone.
Anyone who thinks 'reality television' is not scripted is kidding himself.
A&E is light on the 'art' and heavy on the 'entertainment'.
But I like the escapism. It's just that I know it's contrived.
steelworker 12/22/2013 2:53:02 PM Report

Harper NOT a newsworthy subject this year? Oh the horror for the lefties as opposed to the rest of the country who thinks he is doing a fair job in spite of the bashing from the CBC and the likes of Craig Oliver and the rest of the vermin at CTV. The Senate scandal was always a non-starter with most Canadians as even the slowest realized that it was just a tempest in a teapot (some criminals stole some money and tried to cover it up). We never did see the fat Duffster or Brazeau pull out the big guns to sink the government; they just crawled back under their collective rocks.
flyhawk25 12/22/2013 3:02:56 PM Report

That response indicates a lack of depth of understanding of the bigger issue. But just keep name calling and not looking at bigger issues.
It got Harper elected more than once.
Grump 12/22/2013 3:07:51 PM Report

I do not know for sure, but I have never found "reality" shows to be very real. Does the camera man and the rest of the production team live out in the "sticks" and eat "beetles and rodents" I think not!! All those shows are done for cheapness no actors or writers to pay, no expensive sets to set up, just a lot of audience people whose minds are set on auto pilot... Thank goodness for books and soccer games...

Steelworker:
I don't think they should be called criminals because they haven't been charged, let alone convicted, in a court of law. In regard to the coverup, the problem is not with them but the prime minister's office. And that is the real problem in the matter.
steelworker 12/22/2013 4:41:14 PM Report

Maybe they can start a "reality show" starring Duffy,Brazeau,Wallin and lets not forget the Harb. They can call it "Petty Criminals With Big Egos".

We are happy that our Calgary-via-Toronto daughter's flight got in on time just after midnight on Saturday morning and we're also happy that we're not driving to London until tomorrow to celebrate with the rest of the family.

The View Room is a fascinating place, a tapestry of (mainly older and mainly male) Saultites. It's like a radio soap opera, where most people's appearances can only be imagined, and people's opinions rarely change. But one gets to know the personality of the person over time and how to push the buttons in a good or naughty way. It's a place of egos, opinions, outrage, taunts, debate and humour.

A dozen or so posters I have met and it's fun to run into them from time to time. For example, I encountered Chef Quo yesterday at Rome's with his shopping cart replete with the most healthy vegetable and herbs. We talked for a while, but soon he was anxious to get back to reading his biblical quotations (aloud)on the sins of the Supreme Court's announcements on prostitution, as he navigated the aisles in his Santa hat.

Merry Christmas to all posters and lurkers!
Grump 12/22/2013 5:29:12 PM Report

The networks benefit and the participants make money, the sponsors line up and the dumbing down of society continues.

My MIL was over today and a very small gift had been left at our house for her by one of my wife's friends. She wanted to call and say thank you and, as usual, the message was, "Thank you so much for the gift, but it wasn't necessary" It drives me bonkers. Of course, it isn't necessary, but people like to give. It is like Wicket's party. I would be there but I'm going to be out of town. She's a lovely person, I'll miss my hug and I can't believe that those in town aren't going, especially if the reason is that they are ashamed that she offers up her home for a convivial get-together and they have not done the same or that they want to meet in a neutral, non-conscience-creating environment.
Get over it! Opening up one's house is not part of political correctness.
Have a great Christmas, Wicket, and say "hi" to your son and C.
