Morning all,
anytime the wind quits is fine with me, the surf is still strong , water is up ,
minus ten , not a nice day unless the sun comes out. Finish today building the new ice shack.

Morning Friends.. much better today,, just have to learn to take it easy. Brrrr,, cold out there but we can be thankfull we"re not getting the storms that are getting in the States etc. Think it"s going to be a nasty Winter?? I"m going to go over my recipes [ see Spellchecker, i'm learning ,lol ] again and go to town this weekend to buy the makings. We have a store here but can be quite expensive on these things. See you later,, dress warm ...

Morning Folks...

Still a little windy and brisk out here today, surfs still up, but we are getting a few spots of sun now and again, not that they last though..

Have to go to the store bread paper and mail and after that it'll be hunker down time, winter does not hold the same attraction for me now like it used to. That wet ice that fell has turned my parking area into a skating rink, thank goodness for the wood stove and a steady supply of ash, best anti skid stuff you can find, a biodegradable product and cheap!!

You all take it easy out there, and Bounder unless your icehut is on floats wait till the lake freezes Eh! TGIF...
irishfey 12/6/2013 10:54:46 AM Report

Mallet.... Thanks for the "ash" tip,, now why, with my ''awesome knowledge", lol,, didn"t i think of that!... Your soooooo smart..
irishfey 12/6/2013 10:56:56 AM Report

Would the ash be ok to carry in my Van [ closed, of course ] in case i get stuck???
Just Curious 12/6/2013 11:11:25 AM Report

Irish, just make sure they're out...:)
Spellchecker 12/6/2013 12:33:15 PM Report

Way to go, irishfey.* I love it when my free educational service produces great results like that.
northernmale 12/6/2013 12:50:25 PM Report

a little bucked of cat litter works great to. It can be left in your vehicle and it does not freeze.. Of course not used cat litter.Have a great weekend to all .
celeste5 12/6/2013 2:45:30 PM Report

You can also use sawdust.
mallet 12/6/2013 3:30:07 PM Report

Irish fey..

Just like Just Curious says make sure they are out and cold before you put them in your vehicle.. Cat litter is good too, has a dual purpose good for traction and also takes smells in the vehicle away, but it costs money to buy, and I am a cheap SOB. Sawdust I am not sure about, as I think it does not have the properties of the others for traction purposes. To keep ashes in the vehicle I use a plastic container, I buy dog biscuits in a bucket and use them, they are fairly big and have a lid too. However don't use them near the entrance to the house as then you could track them indoors...
irishfey 12/6/2013 3:48:16 PM Report

Ok.. do you think i"m THAT stupid,,,?? yep, hot ashes and used kitty litter in my Van ,lol.. When's the next lesson Spellchecker ?? Do i get a sticker? lol.. Have to run... later..
celeste5 12/6/2013 3:57:29 PM Report

Mallet

Afew years ago, this lady put her truck in the snowbank, the street was icy and she was just spinning her tires trying to get out.
The neighbor put his sawdust around her tires and she was freed.
mallet 12/6/2013 5:08:30 PM Report

Celeste5..

I am not saying it won't work, all i am saying is that it would not be my first coice. The ash generally has some larger bits in it and that makes for better traction IMO. I am just thinking of the cheapest way, if you have a woodstove you will always have ash, whereas unless you have a workshop sawdust is hard to comeby for nothing...

Told you I am a cheap SOB.. take after my father who used to sift the ash from the coal and coke fires and the fines went into cementbrikets with a little coal dust and was reburnt and the larger parts just went into the boiler that heated the hotwater for general use. and you think Scotsmen are frugal!!
celeste5 12/6/2013 5:57:46 PM Report

Mallet

I understood what you were saying, I also know about being cheap and it`s called being resouceful, LOL.
The man always has sawdust on hand, he`s a carpenter.
I also see that sawdust would be fine for a small situation and not enough traction for a bigger job.

celeste5 12/6/2013 6:05:02 PM Report

Forgot the R in resourceful.

I know how to spell it, Spelly.
irishfey 12/6/2013 7:13:12 PM Report

Was good advice from all of you, thanks. I have some sawdust also and am going to pick up some kitty litter.... be prepared,lol... Glad the weekends here, sometimes i feel like a Widow, hubby comes home from work, couple of beers, supper then in bed by 7!! He does work hard and is out in the cold,so i guess i can"t complain. My Son is coming down tomorrow to visit. We are thinking about moving to the Soo in a couple of years to be closer to the family, but really don"t know if i"d like to live there. Why is it that when i go to town i have to visit everyone ,but for them to come here, all i get is "" it"s such a long drive"!... Oh well, am just having a pity party i guess ,lol Thanks for the ear... Have a great night all.. and .. God bless...
harshbee 12/6/2013 9:56:51 PM Report

i'm not quite sure if this is the right place to ask about some concerns i have . it seems that every store i walk into to do some shopping ,, their shelves seem to be understocked , at first i thought ,well maybe its just me and the shipments never came in ,, but i talked to alot of people and people are getting a little concerned about whats going on here. none of us want to disappoint our kids and grandkids at christmas.. and its our right to know whats going on in our city. even the grocery stores are slacking,, brown meat exposed.with a certain percentage taken off.vegetables and fruit turning bad in the fridge within a couple of days ,, i just want know what is going on , and why not let the shoppers know? thank you !!
