Good morning everyone, a tad cooler today. I hate to think our nice weather is over but the chances of more nice warm weather probably don't look good until spring. Skipper I hope you are behaving yourself and not being led astray by Status and the tall slutty one. LMAO. Have a great day Skipper and all.

It looks as if this will be the day that the US steps back from the brink of financial chaos.
That's just two days before time was up.
It will be interesting to watch the photo-ops of smiling politicians shaking hands and smiling for the media. But they still don't get it.
People are elected to sooth the lives and ease the suffering of the taxpayers. Not cause the suffering.
There is a lesson there. And it is one we here need to absorb and to learn from.
Whether it's the mismanagement of public money in Ontario or federal scandals with the Senate - bad governance is bipartisan and crosses national boundaries.
We need to keep a wary eye on our politicians and our hands on our wallets.

Jimssm .. you'll love this one. "Quebec doctors barred from providing "Virginity Certificates" to women. The tests are to prove that the women are still "marriageable." Apparently the fathers of the girls are the ones pressuring for the the certificates and some were issued.
You can read all about it in the Montreal Gazette.

You need to get out more.
Many cultures place value on a woman's virginity at time of marriage. It seems archaic to us in the West but it is a fact of life in India, Arabia, and Africa.
I know you were itching to bring the 'M' word into the discussion, but I ask you how a 'M' woman can have a Quebec doctor examine her private parts without him being allowed to see or touch her. You can't have it both ways.
Any Doctor providing a "Certificate of Virginity" is breaking their Code of Ethics and should have their licence revoked.
Wisenheimer 10/15/2013 10:12:36 AM Report
Jimssm.. Some Docs were issuing the certs until the fact became public. When you come to Canada, leave your blood feuds and nutty religious beliefs behind.
And yes they were "M" daddies.

So the female must be a pure virgin but the male can be as experienced as he wants.
Interesting, is it not, how it is the females from these countries that place value on a woman's virginity at time of marriage that are the "silent" force for change. It sure does appear to seem archaic to a lot of them.

As one of my German friends once told me, in these days a virgin is a girl twelve years of age or younger who can run fast enough to qualify for the International Olympic Games . Be that as it may, I personally see no reason why boys should have the right to be any less virtuous than they expect girls to be.

My oldest son (from Africa) is saving up money so he can 'buy' the woman he loves.
She lives in Canada, he lives in Canada.... but to keep the peace and please the future in-laws he must follow tradition.
Negotiations will take place between the 2 families and the rest of the town will witness. She is pretty... costs more. She is educated... costs more. She can't cook... costs less. She's (apparently) a virgin... costs more.
He is expecting to pay around $5000 plus expenses for the two to go to Malawi. He also must provide food and drink for approximately 200 'witnesses'.

The only real difference that I see there is that he is paying in advance and knows what he is getting. In this country you pay for the rest of your life, and the odds of getting a virgin, regardless of the cost, are right up there with winning a lottery...:)

Grump 10/15/2013 5:38:20 PM Report
Well a 5000.00 dollar bride price is fairly modest in my experience. A little Bedouin bunny in Saudi who was not too ugly and would only need a light touch up with a wire brush to clean up would fetch roughly 250,000.00 US. A young lady, not very pretty with a little education would fetch in the 500,000.00 US dollar range. If you want pretty and educated then start digging up the money stashed in the yard. I can't say I know of any Moslem woman being checked over by a male Doctor or at least admitting to it. That said I'm fairly sure the male members of her family would never allow it. My theory is that they want virgins because they can't stand comparisons. Now the strange part is many young Saudis' marry women who have been married before, because the oftener they have been married the cheaper the price. Many young Saudis' going to school in the West marry Western Women and take them back as it's easy to exert all the control they want there. Women can not even travel without her husband's approval. What a great world we live in!

Jimssm .. ok this shouldn't be too difficult. Google Montreal Gazette .. same line Google "virginity certificates". Or buy this past Saturday's National Post,, or check out the Toronto Sun or the New York Times, or jeepers the Sault Star.com. Drive to Ottawa and visit the ramp on the Rideau canal where the Shafia boys deposited the Shafia girls. Or Carp Cemetery where Hasibullah Sadiqi deposited his daughter for living with her fiance. He's there too by the way.
Google Honor Killings in Canada. Then get your head out of your ass.
Jimssm 10/15/2013 8:10:19 PM Report
Your arguments as usual are VSA. What do honour killings have to do with whether it was Muslims asking for these 4 tests ?
I simply asked you to show where in the articles (I read them all) it specifies that it was Muslims requesting the 'exams'. I not saying it wasn't, but many cultures value virginity and test the women in their homelands so I see no reason why some of them might try to request them here. Japanese, Africans, Indians etc.
...but your prejudices colour what you see.
It is also interesting to see that you agree with the Quebec Values Charter. Which means you must also agree with the French-only sign law. Both are meant to preserve the 'face' of Quebec, right?
Rene Levesque sera tellement fiere de son petit chou-chou Wisenheimer. It's good to see you siding with the socialists.
As far as my head being up my butt.... most of what I see there makes more sense than what you post,

The clock is ticking down in America to arrive at a deal to avert a financial mess.
Thursday is D-Day.
Maybe then the majority of Americans will finally get active in their political lives as their every day lives change because a bunch of blown dry iconoclasts mess up the economy worse than it is.
All of the things that many of our ancestors died for finally will take a hit.
The ensuing mess will ripple through the world economy.
It would be simplistic to just blame Speaker Boehner and the Tea Party for what will happen. But in a democracy we all share the blame for not keeping an eye on the people we trust to take care of things.

Is that not what you liberal guys do all the time, blame the other people for all the woes in the world, and then when the shoe is on the other foot, well we didn't know. Mr Obama knew that he was running a huge debt and did nothing to trim it, instead he brought in an act that he knew was going to cost billions, and then expects the opposition is going to raise the limit on his credit card. Same as we have here Mr Mcguinty and Ms Wynne gives everyone day care at a cost of a Billion dollars then calls an election, knowing that the gas plant fiasco is going to cost hundreds of millions and wants to sell the ONTC knowing that the cost of doing so is going to be, well they don't know do they, or are not telling, as it will be much more than they expect. Oh sure we can blame "big Pharma" "miltary/industrial complex" and anything else that comes to mind. Just remember Harry truman, "The Buck stops here" and that is at the Presidents or Premiers door....

Your real beef seems to be with McGuinty et al. Fair enough.

As bad as the gas plant mess is, it pales compared to the firestorm that the American neo-cons will visit on all of them.
