I noticed a change in the tone on here yesterday. Almost as if we were reflecting the tranquility Skipper Dave brings each day.

Breaking News .. victims at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi had heads cut off, hands and feet severed and other were hung. Assailants disguised themselves as women by wearing Niqabs to conceal faces and weapons. Looks like some terrorists were home grown in Minnesota. I believe Mall of the Americas is in Minnesota. Security at that mall has been stepped up.

Shakespeare, Do you know if he had the operation to reconnect things? If so, is that what the infections were caused by? Had he finished his chemo treatments?
Also, how long has he been battling this disease? I came to the site in summer 2011 and I believe he was battling it then.

Well you could try this one but I'm highly doubting anything will appease those Libs that believe that Obamacare is the picture perfect answer.
“In an Obama administration, we’ll lower premiums by up to $2,500 for a typical family per year….. We’ll do it by the end of my first term as President of the United States.” Unfortunately, the experts working for Medicare’s actuary have (yet again) reported that in its first 10 years, Obamacare will boost health spending by “roughly $621 billion” above the amounts Americans would have spent without this misguided law."
Obamacare Will Increase Health Spending By $7,450 For A Typical Family of Four."
flyhawk25 9/29/2013 12:25:15 PM Report
Not to nitpick but those aren't the numbers I'm getting.
Granted it is not perfect - but it is the law and can be modified as it is implemented.

What is really on the table is to delay Obamacare for one year while it can be fine tuned.
I personally don't see the big deal with a one year delay.
A tax on medical devices and fines for business and private citizens seem to be some of the stumbling blocks.
It does not really matter what the house votes as Obama has already pledged to veto it.

jimssm: After the swim in Lake Superior everything would so shriveled that I don't think that a swimsuit would be necessary. I had to pull the waterlines out of Horseshoe Bay on Friday. The weather was sunny and calm and I took the opportunity for a year-end dip. It was quite refreshing and actually quite pleasant. Sounds like your newest duo are having quite a good time, and I suspect, so are you.

Swimming in Lake Superior is great! Mind you, given the temperatures we had this spring/summer, I would think it's a wee bit chilly in there this year. Can't say I blame them for wanting to swim in that big beautiful lake...swimsuit or not, lol.

Friday night at approximately 11:15 I was driving down Lake Street hill when I happened to glance at the horizon. In that instant I happened to see a green sparkly object with a tail plunge out of the sky, and from my perspective seemingly plunge below the horizon line line in to the St. Mary's River. I thought I had just glimpsed the very end of some sort of fireworks display. If I had looked in that direction a second sooner or later I would not have seen
it,it occurred that quickly.
On the news I have seen reports of a meteor fallings Friday and Saturday nights as reported by many in the northern states. I'm guessing I saw it also.Did anyone else locally see this?

Well you had a celestial treat.
They will often have colourful tails, green, blue, red.
You may have witnessed the travel of the metorite that lite up the skies of at least 14 states on Friday night.
It traveled from East to West and was estimated to be three feet across, so yes you certainly did get a great thing to see.

Thanks Mallet but no singing in the choir for this lad. Way over here in Horseshoe Bay the water of Superior is somewhat warmer than out where you are, except of course on days like today when the surfs up and big waves are rolling in right out of the west.

Thanks, rw, I hadn't realized that meteorites could be that colourful so I immediately thought fireworks. It certainly was a chance encounter. Astronomy is my hobby, been at it for around 18 years.
I was gazing through the sky with my telescope one night and had the very rare occurrence of a meteorite passing through my telescopes field of view.
It was fast but with the magnification it was awesome.
One of the things that I like to point out to folks (you have to be in a very dark area away from all light pollution) is the Andromeda Galaxy, also known as M31 or as the Great Spiral Galaxy.
You can see it with the naked eye.
It freaks people out.
You have to know the constellations to find it but once you do...you'll never forget where it is.
