VRoom Vroomers... start your engines!!
Last Saturday at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Sault Ste. Marie, Mark King of the North Bay Ratepayers Association informed the delegates of the newly formed Northeastern Association of Ratepayers (NAR) about the obstacles they have been facing in terms of their well researched Budget Input being taken seriously, or at all, by their City Council in forming last year's North Bay Budget.
It was pointed out, through information sharing by the NAR conference members, that the North Bay City Council would have a hard time ignoring ratepayers of North Bay if they simply kept beating the drum about the facts that North Bay :
- ratepayers are amongst the highest property tax payers in Ontario,
- ratepayers have average household income is that is amongst the lowest in Ontario, and
- city employees enjoyed a total of 17% pay increases over the last five year contract settlement.
Bottom Line... North Bay employees got massive Cost of Living Increases during the last contract at the expense of their relatively poorly paid, and overtaxed neighbours.
The North Bay delegates were encouraged by NAR conference participants to work towards getting the public to complain loudly enough over the next two years, and especially during next year's election, to ensure that North Bay's City Council demand that employees take WAGE CUTS in the next round of wage and benefit negotiations to get some of the extra money that North Bay's City Council gave to North Bay employees during the last contract.
The North Bay Ratepayers Association can be reached through Mark King at 705-499-1071
IN OTHER NAR NEWS:
Greater Sudbury Taxpayers Association President Dan Melanson informed NAR conference participants that the GSTA will be holding Ward Debates, and conducting City Council Candidate Training Sessions for all interested candidates in the lead up to the 2014 City Council election. AND they would be delighted to share their information and experiences with any other Ratepayers Associations.
The GSTA can be contacted at email@example.com
The NAR is looking for a good, low cost, Internet Meeting Solution so that delegates from each Ratepayers Association can get together online to hold and record meetings when the weather, or scheduling conflicts, or time and distance barriers won't allow NAR delegates to meet face to face.
The NAR can currently be contacted through the SSM Association of Ratepayers at firstname.lastname@example.org
On a final note, MP Bryan Hayes sent the following letter of regret, on House of Commons Letterhead, informing David Poluck of the SSM Association of Ratepayers that he would not be able to attend the founding NAR conference:
Sault Ste. Marie Ratepayer’s Association
Thank you very much for the invitation to speak at the Northeastern Regional Association of Ratepayer’s Conference this Saturday. Unfortunately, I have a scheduling conflict and will be unable to attend.
While much of the agenda is focused on the Municipal Act and Municipal government, there is certainly a strong partnership between all levels of government here in Sault Ste. Marie and by that very nature, certainly a relationship that I am willing to participate in at the Federal level with your group.
I look forward to meeting with you in the future to address any items that your organization feels fall within the purview of the Federal government, as well as bringing those concerns forward to Ottawa.
Thank you for your initiative David. Your group presents a very unique opportunity for individuals to better understand the levels and roles of government and to become more engaged in the decision making process, as well in making recommendations for process improvements.
Best of luck for a successful conference,

Mark I'm not sure we get what we deserve but I do know we get what we elect. Your group would be a much better service it they kept tabs on our politicians, Municipal, Provincial and Federal. A simple report for the voters would be a great service, it would inform those who simply go and pick a name or those who fail to vote at all. The way to get change is to do it at the polls, all Politicians understand votes. North Bay members are not being listened to, then campaign against the incumbents on those issues. Watch their attention span pick up.

Thank-you for your valuable citizen input about a report to voters, and what you feel would help make the North Bay City Council members listen to their Ratepyers Association's financial research.
I'm sure that the SSMRPA will be reading your input here, but if you want to contact them directly to have them pass on your valuable citizen input they can be reached at email@example.com
As for "my group", Grump, that group would be all interested citizens of the Sault, not just taxpayers which seems to be the SSMRPA's focus.

"The best-established doctrine of Historical Philosopy is, that all the power, prosperity and mental energy of a race or nation springs from and is lived by its religion; when its religion ceases to be its faith-that is, its energizing principle-the intellect, power, vigour and prosperity of that race or nation dies away in proportion, and ultimately perishes, both mentally and physically."

Any of our experts notice what's happened to the stock market as a result of the possible US debt crisis?
That 'free market adjustment' is tied to the blockade to movement caused by the Tea Party.
So essentially there are about two dozen 'kill Obamacare' zealots causing havoc with folks pension funds over something that is a fait accompli.
Don't you just love free enterprise and the American way?
mallet 9/26/2013 9:50:46 AM Report
Nope haven't forgotten, just don't live in the past, those problems have been solved mostly, Islam and it's radical followers has not. But if you want a trip down memory lane lets go
The Brown Shirts in Germany.
The Mosleyites in the U K.
The Facists in Italy.
Shall we go on...
The Hagana in Israel
EOKA in Cyprus.
The PLO and associated groups.
Then of course the others gangs
Bader mienhof/red faction
And I forget how many others there were at that time, but they have all fallen by the wayside.
However today it is the Islamic/Muslim and its radical offshoots that is the main problem. Yes, the leaders can say they do not approve, Just as the Pope says he did/does not approve of pedophile priests, but if you do not do anything regarding that, then the words are empty, and by not giving up those people, to the authorities then you are condoning their actions and giving them tacit support..

Good day every one.
Thank you Mark for posting the information from the Northeastern Regional Conference that was held Saturday.
Grump you do a good points. There are alternatives to ways to what we as ratepayers have been doing. People are reactive by nature and not proactive. The SSMAR looks for individuals to be involved not a group but an active network of concerned citizen ratepayers that have adopted an idea that reengages individuals within the system.
It is felt that working together is more productive than an adversarial positioning of keeping tabs and campaigning against. This is in our experience counter productive.
Reports and at the polls are after the fact. It's the time between the polls that citizens need to be engaged.
If anyone has any questions you would like answered please feel free to either post here or send an e mail to firstname.lastname@example.org

theprotector, not being able to properly spell or put together a sentence says something; you are too ignorant to learn, even when you have a computer which performs spell-check as well as Google if you really aren't sure.

I heard a great interview this morning on CBC radio with Scott Anderson who has written a book called "Lawrence in Arabia" ( about the same guy from the 1962 epic "Lawrence of Arabia".) He claims that all of the middle eastern problems stem from the first world war and the land divisions and that the superpowers of the time (U.K. and France) stupidly imposed and continued to do so. I would suggest that you listen to the podcast. I learned a lot. The Islam thing is just a uniting thing against the West but the real issue is the dividing tribal structure.
