Justin Trudeau apologizes for comparing politicians to used car salesmen
I hope he's apologizing to the used car salesman...it's a pretty cheap shot!
Grace 9/20/2013 5:31:55 AM Report
Funny we were just talking the other day about over sensitivity....
Proving that maybe we're all a little too sensitive these days, Warren N. Barnard, of the Used Car Dealers Association of Ontario, took umbrage to Trudeau's comments and penned this open letter to him.
Dear Mr. Trudeau,
I watched your press scrum on the CTV National News on September 17 and wanted to thank you for pointing out that used car salespeople indeed rank ahead of politicians for honesty and trustworthiness in the eyes of Canadians.
To use your words, “I think we are now ranked below used car salesmen.”
Mr. Trudeau, you are right.
I don’t doubt your intent in making this comparison was to deride the tens of thousands of hard working men and women … yes Mr. Trudeau, thousands of women are involved in the sale of used vehicles …. in the retail automotive industry in Canada. There are almost 25,000 registered salespeople in Ontario alone.
These are the women and men represented, through their employers, by the Used Car Dealers Association of Ontario. Over 4,700 registered Ontario motor vehicle dealers are part of our organization.
I’m sharing this letter with each of them.
You may not be aware of our organization and the role it plays in promoting ethics and professionalism in our industry. Feel free to visit www.ucda.ca to learn more.
You likely are also not aware that Ontario implemented sweeping changes to modernize regulation of the automotive sales industry in 2010. Our members supported this initiative and I’m proud to say that Ontario ranks among the strongest jurisdictions in North America when it comes to ethics, professionalism and protection for consumers buying or leasing new and used vehicles.
Next time you choose to compare politicians with “used car salesmen”, you now have some background with which to do so.
I might also suggest using the far more appropriate term “salespeople” in the future, so as to be inclusive of everyone in our business.
Yes, Mr. Trudeau, politicians do rank behind used car salespeople. Our members and their employees have known that for a long time. Yours truly,
Warren N. Barnard
Now that the young prince has been schooled....move on...

The vast majority of politicians are good people who want to make a positive difference. The problems with respect to what people think are "lying politicians" is that, in Canada, every politician is part of a team. There are no long lasting dictatorships in Canada.
As such, in the lead up to an election when a politician tells you what you want to hear, you have to take it with a grain of salt and judge their sincerity by the look in their eye.
An individual politician CAN'T get you what you want all by themselves, but the question you have to ask yourself when you go to vote is:
Which of these politicians will actively lobby their TEAM on my behalf to effect the changes that are most important to me, the voter.
That's the best way to decide who to vote for.
All politicians "lie" in the lead up to elections because the simple fact is that none of them can GUARANTEE that their team will give the voter what they want, and they ALL want to be elected to try to implement the things that they think will be beneficial for everyone.
If, after an election has happened, the elected representative's TEAM does not do things they had advertised during the lead up to the election, then...
THAT IS LYING, and the team should be turfed at the earliest opportunity.
That's my taxi driver theory and I'm stickin' with it.
In other news:
I attended the Cultural Advisory Board Meeting yesterday, and unfortunately the Mayor's Gala will not be happening in November of this year, if at all.
The hope by the organization that is probably going to host this cultural charity event for the Arts here in the Sault is that it will happen in January of 2014, but nothing is set in stone at this point.
There will be Three Recipients who share the CAB Community Recognition Award this year, and the award will be presented at the October 21st City Council Meeting by Cultural Advisory Board Chair Chris Rous. Please mark your calendars to attend this Award Presentation!
This year's Community Recognition Award recipients are:
Greg Ryckman - Performing Arts: Music
Russ Mason - Visual Arts: Weaving
Michael Hennessy - Performing Arts: Theater
A letter of thanks was received by the CAB from the Sault Blues Society for City Council's Cultural Assistance Grant of $1,000 for the second Annual Sault Blues Festival which was held earlier this year on June 7th and 8th. The letter stated in part:
"The people that attended were treated to first rate entertainment as Canadian elite musicians performed. Also, we were able to feature local musicians both nights.
With the assistance of the Cultural Financial Assistance Grant, we presented two nights of great music within our modest budget. We look forward to the third annual festival and hpet to continue to develop and grow this event in the future.
Sault Blues Society President"
It is interesting to note that all letters and correspondence that CAB receives are forwarded to City Council as a package so that City Council has the opportunity to be aware of what citizens are saying to them through these Advisory Committees.
Have a great day all!

I know you are saying that these Advisory committees are bringing all sorts of information to council but my feeling is that the "community" input is very limited to a few and not as responsive as it could be.
Mark thank you again for doing what you are doing and imparting this information.
You single highhandedly are bringing the work of these committees to the forefront.
Are these meetings open to the public? If someone wishes to attend do they need to give advance notice to show or give input?
Can you post an advance schedule so that people that may have an interest adjust their schedules to attend?
Must just frustrate the bejeebies out of those that think you should not be doing what you are doing!
Keep on it!

A newly released poll by Abacus Data states that J.T. comes out on top when it comes to personal popularity.
I guess that's a great thing if your trying to win a pageant of some sort.
Harper came out as the least popular and I guess that Harper would care about that if he cared about his "popularity"...but Harper doesn't, he cares about his job as our P.M.
This is also reflected in the same poll as the same respondents when asked who they thought was most qualified to be Prime Minister, Harper came out with a stunning 61%, Mulcair at 51% and Trudeau at 49%.
Of course this is just another poll in the long never ending poll business...it does re-enforce my belief though that the average working class Canadian sees the young J.T. for exactly what he is and nothing more.

When I read certain low-class attempts at political wit on this site, I dearly regret those former times when our leading politicians could play their rough game with both vigour and class. An example of what I mean was the last day in Parliament of Réal Caouette, the retiring leader of the right-wing Crédit Social Party. In his farewell remarks in this respect, Tommy Douglas, the leader of the left-wing New Democratic Party, commented along the following lines: “In spite of our ideological differences, the member for Témicamingue is definitely a man from whom I would not be afraid to buy a used car.”
Contrast the quality of that remark with that of the venom regularly spouted here by some of our fellow posters.

Obummer should hand over the "complex" stuff, like......if you can't pay for what you have now; if you're already in way, way over your head, you - at the very least - shouldn't add more ... to a Grade 3 class. They'd probably do a far better job.

I believe that everything and everyone has a Creator. we just didn"t appear outa nowhere. To call everyone that believes in God,, evil,is not right! I didn"t see anyone calling you that just because of your non-belief in God. Many " Religions", have screwed up a lot of people.. God is not a Religion, He is the Creator of all mankind and the universe and actually a Spirit that lives inside us all.. He came to earth as a Man to save us from our sins and without Gods Spirit in us.. well, thats where evil comes in to place. My words are not meant to insult you for your beliefs, but when you call people that believe in God evil,, well it just might upset them a bit and maby that"s why your getting a bit of.. not so nice comments.. on this site. God gave us free will and what you do with it is your choice, and i for one believe in God.. my choice ,and i can assure you that i"m not an evil person I wish i knew you so i could try and explain more, but as the saying goes.. " you can lead a horse to water, but you can"t make it drink"... God is love so instead of saying i will pray for you,, i will just tell you that i love you, and let God decide your fate. Wishing you all the best with your stroke and hope you get better.

Grace.. thank you and your welcome... hope i didn"t step on anyones toes with my post.. these are just my opinions on God. I really think that Pro needs a lot of love sent his way. He just sounds so angry at the world... we all need something or someone to believe in or on. I hope he reflects on what i said.

Almost all of what is considered politics is done behind the scenes, with doors closed.

I am an atheist however,

Jacinta and Rightwing... Jacinta>>>I guess that you were refering to my post about God. Did you not notice that the post was for Pro.. and not you?? You put it out there that you are an Atheist, is that not trying to "push" your faith down other peoples throats? I really don"t care what you believe and i"m sure others don"t either.. same as they might not care what i believe, but my message was not for you so get over it !!... Rightwing>> Thank you my boy. Some of these comments just make ya want to have a beer, but i can"t let you down and ruin my image as the 8th. wonder of the world ,lol,lol.. so on this note. this old Irish gal is signing off before the true Irish temper comes out. May your glass be ever full.
May the roof over your head be always strong.
And may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

My mistake, I should have said the "middle man" on earth, you know the guy who wears the "dog collar" or whatever they want to call it today, or whatever robes for the religion of your choice. I seldom, if ever quote the Bible, I try to live within most of the Ten Commandments, some are hard when you are a serviceman, and a couple are IMO a little out of date, but that's a side issue. I also try very hard to live by the creed that if I can do no good I will do any harm...
